RE: MotorTrend F150 Lightning Tow Test

I am not sure if I am more shocked at the dismal range or the $92,700 price of the 1/2 ton truck.

RE: tire wrench

I carry a 1/2 breaker bar, 1/2 battery impact, 1/2 torque wrench, 1/2" extension and the sockets that fit my truck and the trailer. Never leave home without them.

RE: Generator Security

When our two Yamahas are in my truck they are chained together along with gas cans, tool box, and other items. Sometimes I will use two or three separate chains and locks around each other grouping it all together.
When boondocking the generators are set 30' away from the trailer and chained together and through my spare tire for the truck.

RE: Towing With Air Bags.

I measure the hight to the top of my bumper unloaded. Hook up trailer and after WDH is put on inflate the airbags to get the bumper back to the same measurement.
No idea if that's correct but works for me.

RE: Traveling with Propane on

Always have and always will. I go to diesel only pumps and leave it running while refueling then pull away and shut it down if taking a break or just get back on the road.
Is it the sparks from a vehicles starter motor which are contained or the alternator that supposedly make things dangers at gas stations? I remember years ago on a jobsite someone augered though a gas main and after the repairs were made they put a gas sniffing meter under all our fenders before allowing us to start our vehicles.

RE: Goodbye China Bombs, Hello Made In The USA

I mounted, static balanced and used metal valve stems on both our trailers using Endurance tires. All were born within 4 months of delivery from Simple Tire.

RE: Idle/Drive Ratio

Absolutely. We do oil and filters every 250 hours. Axles and trans every 750.

RE: Idle/Drive Ratio

Just to throw a wrench into the mix. This is on a piece of equipment I drive at work.
Idle: 496 hours
Drive: 366 hours
You mean this is a truck I "IDLE AT WORK"
It's actually a telescopic forklift and the idle hours are so high because most of the time your not actually moving much while working. Setting trusses on a third floor could be 2 minutes of driving in and 15 minutes of jockeying the package in just the right position and then repeat that 47 times per phase X 14 phases per jobsite. Setting beams is another procedure where idle hours build up. All the hooking and unhooking is all idle time and condo buildings will have 25-50 beams per floor.
There are days though where idle is near zero. Unloading lumber trucks, organizing the materials and units and moving them out to where they need to be is a full day of full throttle.
My truck doesn't count hours. Hell it doesn't even have a computer in it.

RE: Drill motor for stabilizers

I have a few kits from different manufacturers but the Ryobi stuff lives in the trailer. I use the impact on 2 for the jacks.

RE: Four (4) Row Radiators? Gimmick or Blessing?

I bought a aluminum radiator from one of the bigger aftermarket companies. Thankfully I saved my OE Dodge one because after a month it started to leak so just had the factory one re-cored and put it back in. Figure I have a $600 spare that will get my by if something happens.

RE: Bought a second truck.

I get offers on my Mustang somewhat often. One was $14k in cash unsolicited. Don't think I would have the cojones to knock on someomes door with a bag full of money asking if a car is for sale. What a idiot.
Like the boat give them a number that is high enough if they say Yes your walking away with more than you thought you could ever get.

RE: Keeping fridge door open while in storage

I'd be more worried about someone moving my trialer without me there than my door possibly closing on its own.

Keep up with the oil changes and cool downs and she will last. If not that's what the warranty is for.

RE: What load capacity should a ladder have for A/Cs?

When I put the Atwood on our first trailer I grabbed some pallets and trash 2X4 and built staging in the back of my truck that was parked as close as possible to the trialer. If I remember it was only two levels to get it up on the roof. The wife and I lifted it into the truck, then up one level, then we stood on the first level and lifted it to the second and finally up on the roof.

RE: Not a good week for Ford

Our friends have a brand new F450 Class C 4x4 diesel that has been recalled for two issues. One was a sprag clutch in the transmission.
