RE: Maiden Voyage Blues

The regulator needs to be replaced. Coming out on Monday. Perhaps that was the issue when I opened the valve I didn’t do it slowly. Had no idea.

RE: Awning leak

Yes. The La Mesa tech came out today and spoke with Tiffin. The approved him to put sealant along the rail to prevent leakage. Tiffin told him that they don’t do that because the awning may need to be replaced at some point. He also sealed the furnace access door. There was moisture in that area and he has seen that area leak before. He also adjusted a drawer that was really mounted crooked and fixed our windshield wiper. The gas problem appears to be a faulty regulator that needs to be replaced. He was going to check their existing stock before ordering one.

Jolly Roger RV Park

Just wanted to say hats off to the management of Jolly Roger RV Park on Grassy Key near Marathon, FL. We had booked a 7 night stay and with all our new RV issues had to leave on Wednesday to get back to the Orlando area and within range of the mobile tech service from La Mesa. The manager was very understanding and didn’t blink an eye refunding the 3 nights we weren’t going to use. Jolly Roger is an older park with grass sites and paver patios. We had a 70’ pull through site with a peek-a-boo view of the ocean. They have a nice thatched roof picnic area by the ocean, man made beach with nice chairs and thatched covers, marina and a swimming area. Not much around but you are an hour from Key West. Would recommend if you want a quiet place away from the tourists.

RE: Awning leak

We have the Girard awning and it is side mounted not roof mounted. The rain was running behind the rail and down the side of the coach. The front storage bay was leaking from an area where there are electrical lines running through the top of the bay. The living room leak may have emanated elsewhere but it is right in line with the furnace and rear refrigerator access.

Awning leak

Would I be correct in assuming you are NOT supposed to get rain water leaking between the awning and the coach? Just had a pretty torrential downpour of rain and half the awning was leaking water. There was water coming in to the basement storage section closest to the entry door and water coming in around the outside furnace panel which seeped under the hvac distribution box under the fridge then on to the living room floor. Looks like the maiden voyage blues continue.

Sun Shades/Awning

Our new Allegro has what I think is a bit of a quirk. In order to operate the front sun shade and night shade (powered) the key has to be in the acc position. The only problem with that is as soon as you do that the steps and awning retract. Not sure why the shade switches aren’t always hot. Maybe I can get someone with electrical knowledge to rewire them so they are.

RE: Maiden Voyage Blues

Yes we are in pretty good spirits. As they say, a bad day camping is better than a good day at work. Hopefully they can fix everything without issue and all will be well.

RE: Maiden Voyage Blues

Seems like we have some type of gas issue as the stove won’t light either. Both things worked at orientation. The only thing that changed was I shut the valve off whole in storage and opened it back up day of departure.

Maiden Voyage Blues

We left Kissimmee, FL Saturday morning taking our brand new 2022 Tiffin Allegro Open Road on its maiden voyage. We hooked up our dolly with our also new 2021 Chevy Colorado and off we went. It wasn’t long heading down the FL Turnpike towards our destination of Marathon Key when we hit several swarms of love bugs that completely obliterated our vision. It was an omen. We pulled off in Ft. Pierce to clean the windshield and top off fuel. While cleaning the windshield the drivers side wiper blade fell off. I thought I had it back on but as soon as I tried the wipers it fell off again. Aargh! I snapped it back on the best I could thinking when we get to our destination I’ll put it on right. But, oh no, the RV gods saw to it that 20 miles down the road it would rain……HARD! So, we took the next exit and pulled in to a CVS parking lot and I fixed the wiper blade in the rain. The wipers now working properly we got back on the turnpike and headed south. Lo and behold, the RV gods were not done. After 5 more miles the drivers side wiper decided it was on strike. It wiped completely left, off the windshield and wedged itself in my side view mirror. I quickly turned the wipers off and carefully drove to the next exit. We pulled in to a 7-11 and, thinking the wiper arm slipped on the shaft, I tried to loosen it and reset it. After 3 failed attempts I said screw it, we’re driving the rest of the way with no wipers. We arrived at Jolly Roger RV Park just after 7 PM, got set up and was looking forward to a nice hot shower. I had turned the Truma Aqua Hot on before leaving so I figured I would be all set. HA!!! No hot water!!!! I looked and the light on the control was blinking not solid like it should. Multiple attempts to turn it off both outside and inside was to no avail. I could hear the igniter clicking but it wouldn’t light. Tank is full and valve is open. After two days of no hot water I finally got Truma on the line as well as Tiffin and La Mesa service. Long story long, we will be leaving here early and going back to Kissimmee on Wednesday so the LaMesa mobile service can come help us. No qualified mobile tech here in the Keys. Today is my wife’s birthday. She gets to celebrate with another cold shower. Sigh…

RE: TPMS Settings

We purchased the GUTA Solar Tire Pressure Monitoring System from Amazon. It has good reviews and was reasonably priced. The 6 sensor version was $210. It was easy to program and seems to be working well so far.

TPMS Settings

Installed my TPMS and all sensors seem to be responding. Need to set the upper and lower limits on pressure. My tires require 100 psi. Not sure how much that may increase under driving conditions but was thinking setting upper limit at 120 and lower at 80. Looking for recommendations if these aren’t good. Thanks!

RE: Just got back from Hawaii

We had a two week trip planned for the last two weeks of Sept. and pulled the plug on it. Between the uptick in Covid and all the recent jack-assery on flights we decided instead to book a two week cruise for Sept of 2022 roundtrip out of LA. We will be in AZ then so no flying and hopefully a year from now things will be more back to normal. Besides, next year is my wife's 55th birthday and our 5th anniversary so it made more sense.

RE: Gassing Your Gasser

Hadn’t thought about Sam’s as we are members there. My gas tank is in the rear but on the drivers side opposite the roof ladder. Wish they had put it on the side. I had to actually put my drivers window past the front pump so I could reach it with the rear pump. I’m sure after a few trips under my belt and it will be old hat.

RE: Gassing Your Gasser

I have the Pilot/Flying J app. Didn’t know they had special islands for RV’s. That will be helpful. Thank you!

Gassing Your Gasser

As this is my first MH and essentially first time driving something this large, I am having a bit of anxiety about driving this thing with a Toad in and out of a gas station. With the Toad I will be somewhere in the neighborhood of 60' long total. Our maiden voyage will be 9/18 to Marathon Key, FL which will also mark the beginning of our adventure full timing. I have driven to a Love's recently without my Toad and was able to get an end pump so it was pretty easy to get in and out. I might be overly concerned about nothing. I have watched a video on YouTube about a guy who covered this subject and how he gets his DW to Google Earth the station before arriving to plan his entrance and exit. Just looking for some pointers from some of you more experienced folks on things to do (or not do) or what to look out for so I don't paint myself in a corner. Thanks in advance for your advice.

RE: Thousand Trails Camping Pass?

We have a free 1 year membership that we got with our MH purchase and it came with the upgrade to stay in the Encore parks. Our first visit will be to an Encore park in Punta Gorda, FL 9/25-10/3. Will report back.

RE: 2022 Tiffin - F-53 Chassis - Brakes

I just spoke with Ford Motor Home Customer Assistance and they ran my VIN and my unit is not included in the recall (PHEW!). We hit the road full timing 9/18 and are headed for Marathon Key (as long as there are no hurricanes headed that way). I need the maiden voyage to go smooth.
