RE: Running a residential fridge on 12 volt power?

BTW, OP, Will your work let you run an extension to a 15/20 amp circuit for a couple hours?

RE: Running a residential fridge on 12 volt power?

OK! I will start with questions. 1. Is your charge line between truck and trailer adequate? If so, then getting to work and from work to camp site is not an issue. Regardless of the size of the wire between the tow vehicle and the trailer, it is impossible to FULLY charge a discharged battery bank from the vehicle. It will prevent the house battery from discharging below acceptable levels. Well ya got me here. I do not know what part of my post you are talking about. I did not say he could get a full charge.

RE: Running a residential fridge on 12 volt power?

OK! I will start with questions. 1. Is your charge line between truck and trailer adequate? If so, then getting to work and from work to camp site is not an issue. 2. What inverter is in the rig? What RR is in the rig? Look at the data plate. My Samsung RF18 sips at 3 amps. Some do sip a little more. Our MH has the 2 GC2s at 230ah and a Tripp Lite rv1250ulhw inverter/charger.with nothing running but the RR (and parasitics), we last 10-12 hours, with outside of 75 degrees, in the sun. Fridge stays 34 and freezer at -2. New batteries should be no problem. If work day exceeds 10 hours then maybe go out at lunch, check and run the engine or gennie for an hour, if possible. Have fun. It will work.

RE: Mister

Thanks folks. I will look a Lowes and HD. With them I can likely return it, if the item does not work right. Still looking for a specific recommendation of a known good, though.

RE: Simple extension cord

How much 12 V power does the fridge use?/How long house battery last? And if this was a issue could hook a small power supply to that circuit.Converter and fridge combined uses maybe 4 amps on that cord and 15 amp supply. May as well plug in the main cord. Even the lights will not be a issue to get set in for the evening.^^ This! Some are not reading everything. Stated he has all electric rig which means an RR. We have used 15 amp, when air conditioner is not required. We do not have all electric but do have an RR. Easy to do. You probably won't be able to run water heater. You might get away with microwave oven. Definitely no AC as that might push over the 15 amps if inverter/charger(converter) and fridge all came on at the same time. Set your EMS input settings to below 15 amps. All of this will keep your batts up and RR running. Agree with throwing breakers for non essential systems to prevent accidental use. To use MW and maybe AC you should consider turning other systems off. You might be able to.

Mister

I have done a search with no results. Who has a mist system for their awning or popup? What brand, where did you buy? I ordered one off of Amazon, rated for RV use, that had good ratings but we could not get it to adjust to mist.

RE: Problem with 50 amp cord

Do not guess. Plug the extension into the power pole and use a volt meter.

RE: Inverter Question

Sorry for slow reply, been on the road. First, thanks for the good advice. The power is good, checked with meter. The key is off and out. I have always turned it on and off, didn’t think it would be good to leave it on plugged in. It is the separate converter/inverter, 600 watts. Where is the transfer switch lockout? It is in the bay where the 50 amp cord comes in. Never fooled with it before, so give me the kindergarten directions. ?? Sorry. Please disregard my reply & questions. I was thinking original inverter/charger installed by factory.

RE: Inverter Question

secondary issue. Why do you turn it off when plugged in? We only turn ours off when taking MH in for maintenance. It is designed to roll over from shore to inverter with no loss of power to items on inverted circuits.

RE: Samsung RF18 Fridge

opnspaces is correct. We have an RF18, installed locally. No specific breaker. We added it to an already existing inverted plug. There is no off. We installed one of THESE. Only draw back is that if it goes off, it will not come back on unless we turn it back on. Not a big issue most of the time, though.

RE: inverter/charger

I have a 2013 Tiffin Allegro and it is not set up for the inverter/charger to charge the chassis battery. Why do you need to charge your chassis battery. Are you going to store and be away from it for more than 2 months? If so and , a trik-L charger or like item will be need, if not already installed.

RE: MOTOR HOME REPAIR

Well then thanks for no help. No reason to get snippy. He helped and you learned and adjusted. All good. Can’t help with any specific recommendations. But you might google mobile RV repair and the name of your nearest city. Usually turns up multiple hits with reviews and ratings. x2
