RE: 2500 Chevy Duramax vs 2500 Ram Cummins on the Ike Gauntlet

Almost all of the comments here come down to the same old Chevy vs Ram debate. There are millions of these trucks out there towing trailers with no problems and nearly identical results so it still comes down to a matter of brand preference. That being said I see no reason to put a 10 speed trans behind the Cummins engine because it works just fine the way it is. More gears is in the Rams future. Like it or not. I STRONGLY suspect that the Ram proponents will then sing its praises . Until then.....Dissing those that have it now, just sounds like a child refusing to admit that a classmate has a better toy. It's only the stubborn "Ram proponents" who's mantra of "whatever I currently have is the best", while wearing blinders, who can't see the benefits of more forward gears behind the Cummins. I’d bet anyone $1000 that when (not if) RAM adds gears that the new tranny will be proclaimed by some as the best ever available in a HD. Heck, I remember individuals signing the praises of the 68RFE (which for the record I don’t think is terrible, but it is far from the best).

RE: Hemi to be replaced by inline six?

I didn't believe in the EcoBoost until I owned one. While my MPG hasn't been significantly better than the V8s I've owned (towing MPG is certainly worse), the power is nothing short of impressive. My plan is to order a new Wagoneer as soon as the extended wheel base is out. Now I might wait for this engine to be part of the package. In regard to the claim of French engineering, I'd like to see some sort of proof source on that. This engine was being designed before there was a Stellantis.

RE: Help with fuel transfer valve

Couldn’t you just use the manual shut off and leave it closed until you need it? That’s to say when your fuel gauge shows something below 1/2 you open it when you stop for another reason? If you open it with half of the oem tank remaining, you could almost certainly drive the rest of the day and with the rate of fill vs the rate of burn it would take at least a couple hours to get the oem tank back to full.

RE: 90 gal. Aux fuel tank below bed rails. Help.

Hi, I have an 8ft bed so enough room. I just want to leave space to carry 2 bikes upright. The RDS 60 is a good compromise. Do you have enough room in the toolbox to store DEF fuel? Any issues with the gravity fill? Thank you MC How much depth do you have? FWIW, I have the RDS 60 combo. I've never wanted more, 96 gallons give me plenty of range. My truck is a 2012 so no DEF. But I’m pretty sure it would fit. I have jumper cables, tie downs, bungees and a bunch of other stuff I rarely use in there. Gravity feed works fine. I added the tank to my truck 10 Years ago when it was brand new and never really had an issue as long as you make sure the gas cap is tight. If it isn’t you can over fill and have fuel run out.

RE: Can you jump your 5’er with your truck?

If you are concerned about slides and jacks with dead trailer batteries you could plug trailer umbilical cord into the truck (with truck running) and have enough power to use the jacks and pull in the slides.I guess so, but that doesn't jibe with the comment above about how cables will get hot. Hot comes from a lot of amps. Umbilicals don't carry a lot of amps. All I can tell you is that I've needed to do it with my trailer, and it works for me.

RE: Can you jump your 5’er with your truck?

Why are you wanting to “jump” the trailer? If you are concerned about slides and jacks with dead trailer batteries you could plug trailer umbilical cord into the truck (with truck running) and have enough power to use the jacks and pull in the slides.

RE: Jerem Bought a new truck!

Congrats on the new ride. I didn’t know GM was still using the 8 speed. Add me to those interested to hear how she tows.

RE: Yellowstone second thoughts.

Our last trip to Yellowstone was either 2018 or 2019. The same time you went. We also stayed in Fishing Bridge. I don't like crowds, and I didn't like this trip because of it. There were times when the parking lots were so crowded I couldn't find a place to park my DRW truck. You could always tell when the tour busses came as that made some of the board walks crowded enough it was difficult to get around. People would be walking 3 abreast and not willing to move over for someone walking the opposite way. This was one of the few vacations we actually left a couple days early - because of the crowds. We will certainly go back - I really like that park. But it will not be in prime season.

RE: It's past time

Gas at $5.00 should spark some interest Congress could stop the rise in gas price, if wanted to support Ukraine and US people. Oil companies reported record profits '21. For '22, tax all profits above '21 levels at 110% That would mean if they made $100 last year, this year make $110, they pay $11 more in tax Why don’t you look at the profit margins of the oil companies before you start throwing stones at them? Government makes significantly more off fuel taxes than “Big Oil” makes per gallon. “Big Oil” isn’t the problem here.

RE: Truck Fire Ford SD 6.7

I love my DRW for pulling my trailer. But the reality is it is overkill for my 12,000 pound trailer. It is a dedicated tow vehicle, and when I finally decide to upgrade, I'll go back to SRW. No way would I want it as a daily driver.

RE: Holy Chutzpa on the Surcharges Batman

Not saying I agree with what they are doing (I wouldn't run a business that way), but it is a sellers market. FWIW, I doubt there has ever been a better time for you to sell your own RV outright. Buying right now is tough, regardless of what you are looking for. There just is no inventory.

RE: Truck Fire Ford SD 6.7

A few years ago I had a car that was totaled by a hailstorm. My insurance (Safeco) low balled me at the time. They allowed me to find 5 vehicles within 1 year old with similar or one model trim higher advertised for sale within something like 100 miles, and re-evaluated. I still thought that wasn't an accurate value due to the extreme low miles on my vehicle, but to fight I would have had to go to arbitration, so I ended up setting. Just a long winded way of saying that you should have some options to dispute the claim amount. Have you got your actual agent involved? Used values are absolutely crazy high right now. That $54k sticker you saw probably wasn't a mistake.

RE: Ordered!

Congrats on the new truck. No need for a HD with a 7000 pound trailer. That 3.0 will be a perfect match.

RE: Towing mileage/capability

Sure would be helpful if you would include a budget. If you are looking for something a little more modern, either a RAM 1500 or Jeep Grand Cherokee could work well. Find one with the EcoDiesel and it solves your mileage concern both towing and solo. Find one with the air suspension and it will lower while parked to make it easier for your wife to get in. An older full size 2500 diesel would also solve the MPG concerns, but way over kill for your trailer, and even is 4x2 form can be tall.

RE: 3.0 Duramax concerns ?

I don't have a 3.0 Duramax, but have a 3.0 EcoDiesel. I am a huge fan of the 3.0 diesels. If I were buying a 1500 truck today, it would absolutely have one of the 3.0's.

RE: Rivian Electric Truck takes on the Ike Gauntlet

I70 is in my back yard. I think it’s kind of comical the apologists for the Rivian here. I see no way to have a position that this truck is ready for prime time towing duties. It simply isn’t. Hard pass from me on this technology for the foreseeable future.

RE: Removing Old Decal's

My inlaws removed the decals from their 5er. It was only a couple years old when they did it, and it still has the ghosting from the old decals. They are happy with the look. I wouldn't be.

RE: Toyota Tundra vs Ford F150 Hybrid Fuel Economy Tests

Would be interesting to see how the 3.0 Duramax or EcoDiesel would compare with the MPGs. And FWIW, I think it is CRAZY to question "who buys a pickup for MPG". Most people are concerned with it. And it will become more important in the future.

RE: Multiple Buyers. Who gets the RV?

The only way you can tell who is REALLY interested is by cash. I have a bit of a hobby flipping fishing boats. I make it clear that the first with cash gets it. The only exception is if I have someone from out of town coming, I have them let me know when they are on the way to see it, and I will hold it until they get there. I would never hold a boat or an RV for someone a few hours away who is "interested" and wants to come look, but isn't definitive.
