RE: Newbie - 36ft vs 41ft fifth wheel

Think about it this way. The difference in length your talking about is likely about the same length as your arms spread out. No real difference you will notice.

RE: Does RV.net have a policy forbidding the discussion of EVs?

No ban that I am aware of. I stopped looking at them because they all start with the same few people here that have them. Only one of them I know of rv's with his. Just not enough to matter for a RV forum to me.

RE: Bad Lippert O ring

Wonder why the lady told me Lippert doesn't sell o rings?? The ones on their site don't appear to be the right size. I did email Lippert with the specs to see if someone else can help me. Thanks for the responses!Have you looked at the pump? Odd's are Lippert doesn't make them.

RE: Theft at a State park.......

Don’t let staying in a State Park give you a false sense of security, I was at the State Park in Lake Havasu in my truck camper, full hook ups, I unplugged my power cable but left my expensive surge protector locked to the electrical post, went around town, came back and the surge protector was gone! I complained to the front desk they asked around and then the Ranger came by with my surge protector! He said the “help” had thought I was gone and took it for safe keeping in case I would return. They didn’t check if I was there another night, which I was, they kept it in their shed, not the front desk, where I would have gone. I told the Ranger I was going to call the City Police and he wanted no part of that, so they credited me with my entire stay for free. Don’t trust anyone or any place…. So someone did a good deed and you became a male Karen over the deal...pathetic...I thought the same thing. I would have been thankful someone was trying to get it back to me.

RE: Medicare For Full Timers

We had United thru AARP for 3 years but dropped them last year as they would not sign contracts with 3 of the major hospitals in our area and also kicked our Dr's out of network. We have Humana Advantage now and it has been much better. Lower co pays and more benefits.

RE: Wheel Bearings

I don't get all the concern about repacking bearings. OP has 800 miles since serviced. How often do any of you repack the front bearings on your car or truck? Its the same bearing set up. Not the same ball game! The front bearings on a car or truck do not see any of the huge side loadings that double axle trailers put on their bearings when they turn or back into a campsite. If the trailer wheels turned like a cars, then the side loadings would not be there and the recommended service interval would likely be much longer than it is now.Really it is about the same. On our class 8 trucks and trailers we would check and service bearings at about 100K miles. True the bearings are bigger but so is the load. I'm not a rookie mechanic as you can tell from my profile and I do believe some folks take the bearing service a little to far.

RE: Rear Fiberglass Cap Damage

Grind out the cracks, fill with kitty hair. OK, I'll bite. What's kitty hair? (I hope I don't regret asking. :B)kitty hair is chopped fiberglass mixed with a resin you can buy in a can. You just have to add hardener and spread after surface prep. Works great for filling holes and cracks but not for structural.

RE: Winegard antenna… what’s it good for?

To answer your question, no, the Winegard dome antennas are for satellite reception only and will not pick up the local over the air digital broadcasts. Winegard does make a few over the air antennas that do pick up the local stations, but the domes are not among them. This is incorrect. I have a new Winegard 360 dome that is OTA only. Sold on Amazon.

RE: Rear Fiberglass Cap Damage

I fixed a lot of Corvettes and fiberglass cars over the years and this should not be a problem for a good glass man as long as there is no damage behind the cap. No one in their right mind will price it without seeing it in person.

RE: Dino juice v Electrons....

Are your EV's going to be disposable vehicles in a few years? With the cost of new batteries to replace out of warranty it will be like trying to sell a used car without a engine. I have yet to see any battery that will not lose charge capacity over the years or even weeks with heavy usage. I would guess after about 5 years when you recharge it would be like just getting a half tank of liquid fuel. Just makes me wonder.

RE: Tire longevity

After two years off for the pandemic we decided to check out the trailer in preparation for our August trip. Our tire guy noticed that our Michelin XPS Ribs were made in 2008 which is when we installed them. Pretty good service we thought so we bought five Rib replacements which should last a lifetime since we are both in our middle 80's. Someone in their 80's should know better. There are a lot of factors that can lead to premature wear or failure: Road hazards - A pothole or other hazard can result in immediate failure. Even something such as driving on gravel roads can take a toll. Punctures - Anything that punctures the sidewall will result in instant failure and cannot be safely repaired. I even had a major slice in the center of the tread due to a piece of sharp volcanic rock. Heavy loads and underinflation, especially at high operating temps can greatly reduce life or even result in immediate failure. Tire age - tires dry rot due to UV light but mainly just oxygen. Most tire manufacturers recommend replacement at 7 years or less. That is especially true for tires operating at high loads, but dry rot can kill a tire regardless of load. For reasons I will not try to explain, RV tires are often at much higher risk for dry rot because they are not used frequently and will dry rot faster than tires that are used frequently. Maybe at 80 years you just don't care anymore. I am in my 70s and would like to live considerably longer.I don't think he was looking for a smart a-s lecture but just making a statement.

RE: What's the real scoop on propane tank re-certification?

We don't have too many places in town that actually refill them. Most do swaps of 20lb tanks. I guess I'll call around to the places that do refill and ask them. I know the local Uhaul refills them, but I don't think they will recertify because I've been turned away from there before when I had expired tanks.Do you have a Tractor Supply store out there?
