RE: Cleveland to Upper Peninsula of Michigan

I would definitely go up 23 through Ann Arbor rather the going through Detroit; for one thing it’s more direct.
Yes, but as an OSU alum I always go around Ann Arbor:)
On a serious note, lots of great suggestions. If you like state parks the Huron Lake side is a nice drive, with many great camping options like Tawas Point, Hoeft, Harrisville. We also enjoy Wilderness SP just west of the bridge.

RE: Colorado Hwy 50 @ Monarch Pass

I drove it to & fro last year and had no problems (30' 5th wheel). Just gear down and tap the brakes when needed.
I was a bit nervous about it but found it wasn't nearly as bad as people wrote/talked about.

RE: Manitoba/Winnipeg

not sure which way you are going, but - if you get to Weyburn, Saskatchewan there is a county park (not sure what they call counties up there) but we have stayed there several times and it is a nice park. close to downtown and we got our Canadian money from a bank there.
Thanks. I don't think we'll be heading to Saskatchewan on this trip. After Manitoba we are heading down towards Theodore Roosevelt NP in North dakota then heading back towards Ohio.

RE: Manitoba/Winnipeg

Thanks folks. Maybe too early but I'm thinking Winnipeg Beach Provincial Park while I'm up there competing in the World Police & Fire Games next July.
Bring your favorite mosquito spray. LOTS of IT.
Uh oh. Maybe I'll expand my search then.

Manitoba/Winnipeg

Hey folks, I'm looking at a camping trip up towards Winnipeg, probably coming up through the UP, west towards Wisconsin & Minnesota.
Any suggestions on some nice provincial parks near Winnipeg? We don't need anything fancy, just love the outdoors and scenery.

RE: Nebraska Hwy 2

We went all the way across Rt 2 last summer & had a blast. Spent a few nights at the Bessey Rec Complex and floated down the Middle Loup River. Moved NW and eventually spent 4 nights at Chadron SP & that place was spectacular. I'd go back & do all that stuff again, it was great.

RE: Extended trip planning

We are heading out west on Easter Sunday (April 17), a prettty long 6 week trip. I have reservations for 5 of the 6 weeks. At the beginning, we will wing it for about 4 nights, then all reservations from April 21- May 23rd. When you head towards popular areas, I believe you need reservations for peace of mind. Of course, you can be derailed by the unexpcted but that's the chance we take.
It is sad in a way that reservations are a must. We accepted it and feel if we really loved a new area, and wish we had more time to explore it, it gives us a reason to go back in the future. Good luck.

RE: Silver Mines Campground, MO

Thanks. Found my answer in the first link. Well hidden, but found it.
The answer is NO.
thanks again
No problem. It's a nice area around there. Check out Johnson Shut Ins State Park or Big Creek RV Park (private), we enjoyed our stay around there several years ago.

RE: Ozarks camping

We like the Buffalo National River area in northern Arkansas. Lots of great scenery & hiking. We like Shadow Oaks CG near Harrison, Ar.
Maybe look into NW Arkansas & Eureka Springs vicinity & drive up to Branson?

Columbia River Gorge
This is it I believe.
Would you please explain what a 'timed entry' permit is, and why they have it?

RE: How to Find Parks?

State Parks
Also, I'd endorse Campendium, The Dyrt, COE Parks
There's a ton of info in individual state travel guides on the internet, just surf through & see what interests you. Good luck!

Canyon Pines
It's been about 15 years since we were in the Hell's Canyon area, but this campground was awesome, right on the river near Riggins, Idaho.

Oklahoma State Parks
We enjoyed our 3 night stay at Sequoyah SP about 4 years ago. I've heard Greenleaf SP is nice as well. Travelers I've talked to enjoy all the SPs around Grand Lake.

RE: RV Site UP Michigan - Finger Lakes

In the UP, besides the spots mentioned, take a look at Union Bay CG in the Porcupine Mountains (just west on Ontanogan), and Jack Pine CG near Manistique. We have been to the UP several times, the last time in June which we didn't like as much due to biting flies & mosquitoes..probably depends on the timing of winter thaw with the bugs.

RE: 2022 Trip Planning- Advice for Newbies

M
Thank you. I guess I missed the battery upgrade. We just need to get out of our comfort zones of staying in state parks
Nothing wrong with you wanting to stay at state parks. Just keep in mind some of the USA's "hot spots" will be reserved well in advance (that may also be the case at many private CGs).
Personally, we tried a parking lot (Wal Mart) once, and I didn't sleep well. I'd rather be surrounded by fellow campers that are generally courteous than some crazy shoppers that fly around in a lot.

RE: Seneca Rocks, WV

Five River RV Park in Parsons (https://www.fiverivercampground.com/) WV, Canaan Valley SP, and Seneca Shadows are good places to stay. Blackwater Falls SP is ok too, but the sites are kind of small. Beautiful area of West Virginia to visit for awhile.
Near Canaan Valley is the Dolly Sods wilderness, also a nice place to check out. Have fun!!
