RE: Tybee Island Fine Me Beach

I agree with the original post. My brother who obeys rules got a 500 dollar ticket for having his golden on the beach when they could not even see the water. The officer told him that where the pavement stopped and sand started was the "beach". He had only been there a couple of hours. The cg host told him that was not reasonable, gave him his money back minus one day stay and he left. He paid the fine later. As far as having a clean beach we spend several months on Hatteras Island. Dogs are allowed on leashes and while they are the occasional violators, that beach is clean and well managed.

RE: Max Pressure Cold vs Hot Pressures - How Much Is Too Much

Folks worry way too much over simple things. Rving is suppose to be fun and exciting. I have been pulling for 50 years. I always set my tires to max inflation as the tire states. I may be jinxing myself but the only tire trouble I have had was the valve stem failed while I was backing into a site and the tire went flat. I expect a lot of tire failures are due to under inflation and the tire running too hot. I am not knocking those who weigh, adjust psi regularly just expressing my thoughts.

RE: Mildew pre treatment

Put a few damp rid containers inside in different areas. Damp rid is your friend.

RE: In a quandary

We are both vaccinated and still wear mask in large crowds. This year for Thanksgiving at our house anyone who is not vaccinated will get a covid test IF they want to attend. When I say everyone that is what I mean. If they don't want to be tested so be it. We may be travelling for Christmas so it looks like a non issue for us.

RE: Winterizing Residential Fridge

All I do on our res frig is disconnect the water line from the outside access point and run rv antifreeze thru it. Then I do nothing else. I leave the frig on year round. Along with Damp Rid I leave a small ceramic electric heater set on thermostat in case it gets to 32. You do not want to run rv antifreeze thru the ice maker.

RE: Residential fridge

We have an inverter that keeps our 23 cubic foot frig perfect. The truck charges the fiver batteries which in turn keep the inverter working at max level. We have thousands of miles on this fiver and we have never had a problem. We will never go back to the standard rv frig.

RE: Did your dog influence your trailer purchase?

When we sold our motor home and went back to a fiver that was because we liked the space and floor plan for us. It is hard to say but we know that Lucky and Lucie will not be with us forever since Lucky is on his 15th year. We did want a king bed however since Lucie sleeps with us. One thing that did influence us was our current rig does not have sleeping space for anyone but us. Our golden years are just that OURS!

RE: How many states has your dog been too?

Lucky who is on his 15th year with us has been to 10 and Lucie who turns 11 in December the same amount.

RE: Forest River Wildcat OR Grand Design Reflection...???

I know you say you are looking at those two units but really give thought to the floor plans. I can assure you that floor plan is by far the most important for happy camping in the future. As far as quality, it does not matter what you purchase you can expect little items that will crop up.

RE: hydro or electric leveling

We have auto leveling electric on our current fiver and my son has hydraulic on his. We camp side by side a lot and he has problems with his system. Ours so far with many camping miles has had zero. Ours will lift the tires off the ground easily which I do not do on a regular basis. I think I would concentrate more on the floor plan than anything. If you don't get a plan that fits your needs it will be a bigger problem down the road.

RE: manual retraction of slides

On our 2003 Sunnybrook fiver the manual was underneath on the motor or by it. While in New Mexico our slide motor burnt up and I had to manually crank it in and out for the rest of our trip. It was repaired under warranty when we got back home. It would be much easier with a drill though.

RE: New to RVs.....A Few Newbie Questions

You have Chesapeake RV solutions and TAC RV center both in the Chesapeake area. Tac is just across state line in Moyock NC. Both of these dealers carry nice units. As a suggestion, I would look at what floor plans appealed to me and not let length get in the way. The only appliance I would think carefully about is whether you plan to boon dock or primarily stay in full hook up cgs. We went with a residential fridge as we do not boon dock. We have owned several including a dp motor home and this last time we narrowed it down to the rig in our sig and Grand Design. Floor plans and the extra insulation made our decision. It is almost a guarantee that whatever you purchase will have something that needs tweaking.

RE: Views on when to/not to allow a dog to be social

I have no problem with our large dog greeting other dogs and people. However as already stated I do a quick observation of the dog AND its owner. Then I always ask. I do not use those darn retractable leashes and always have a firm grip for a just in case. Our small dog is more introverted than Lucky and prefers to mind her own business. We respect that.

RE: Goodbye old friend, You will be missed

I am sorry for your loss. Your description of Abby is so similar to our Lucky. He is having problems with his hind legs as well. There is a ramp for the fiver and one for the truck but I still have to help him navigate them. He is also sleeping more each day. He turns 14 in September. I can only imagine what you are going thru with Abby's passing.

RE: Fridge lock

I simply use a strap with the black quick snap fasteners. My handles are side by side so I just run the strap thru both and pull it tight. Never have had a problem with that set up.
