RE: Slidouts

Not a fan of cable slides here in the heat if they use plastic cable pulleys. Guess I am not a fan of schwintek slides, either.....

RE: GM 6 liter vortec what are you towing with it?

I have had a few 6.0 Chevy gas trucks. Looked hard at a diesel and in fact passed on the new 6.6 gas until they had a few more miles on them. Stayed with the old tried and true 6.0 and have been happy. I would not go much over 10,000lbs payload but up to that I would not have a problem. You learn with the power curve is for the grades you are climbing and let it go. On the 2019, it gets better mileage and has more power than the '07 so I am very pleased. Life is full of trade offs......

RE: Getting gas with long trailer?

Sometimes, if you can hang back and watch the gas islands to see who on the outside is ready to leave and then you can move in. Make sure you have an exit plan but most often you can get out. It seems as though lately the distance between the store and the islands is getting tighter but most times you can negociate that distance to move all the way around them to get to the other side if you have to reach those pumps. Just be patient.

RE: Compartment latches and locks

The hard locks are the slam latch locks. Would like to replace mine with different keys but I don't think that is possible. Have to lube them every few times we camp to keep them able to lock on the latch side. Use a silcone lube on them to keep them cleaner. Getting to be a real issue.

RE: Rip off prices from RV Dealers

I was in a jam with a torn awning and I was not able to do the labor to install a new one. Had to pay a higher price at a dealer for them to source the fabric and do the installation. They would not install the new fabric and warranty it if I did not purchase it from them. I do understand that but the price was pretty high.

RE: RVing in 2022

Fuel is getting so expensive that I may start taking trips to where I store my fiver and camp out there. Wish they had hookups........

RE: GY Endurance or Carlisle Radial Trail HD

Goodyear for me, just on the trailer tires. Not impressed with the rest of Goodyear tires.....

RE: First Tow with New Trailer

Congrats on the new fiver. I am towing my Heartland about the same nose high as yours with no problems. You have a great fiver which should work well for you.

RE: 5th wheel hitch security

Had a friend who had some devious person pull a couple of pins on the rails on his truck. Went to hook up the trailer and did a test pull and found out there was a problem. He purchased locks for that online and that took care of it. I think I will do the same. If you were out next to nowhere, pins could be hard to locate.

RE: Replacing New Trailer King RST+ : Only Option Is Carlisle??

Purchased Carlisle tires for my trailer last year and on the second trip blew one out. I had checked pressure before I left but did not have tire monitors on them. There was just a ring of rubber around the rim when a passerby let me know about the issue. Took them back to Discount Tire and purchased Goodyear Endurance. They have run fine.

RE: New Truck question(s)

I think the Ford will give you the added gears in the transmission you were looking for while the GMC 6.6 gas is still stuck with the 6 speed. I have the 6.0 gasser and the six speed which for me is fine. The new trucks with the 6.6 gasser will only have a 3.73 rear end and what GM is saying is that the larger engine makes up for the gears. I preferred to have the 6.0 with the 4.10 until GM figures out what transmission they want to put in the newer trucks. The Ford may surprise you with what you want at a lower price than the GMC. Overkill may be a good thing with an RV.

RE: Does the Color of an HD Pickup Make a Difference?

I think solid white with no metal flake is the best for resale as well as damage repair. It is easier to color match without needing to match the direction of the metal flake.

RE: What do you think about this set up?

Quite a few years ago I had a very similar set up with a Chevy Tahoe, 350 CI engine and 3:42 gears. I did tow a 19' Wilderness and did two things. Ran out of power in the hills and burned up the rear diff. You will find out it is driving you and you are not driving it at the end of the day. The gearing is not right for the load you want to tow in my opinion.

Highway 191 north of Morenci towing trailers

I would like to know how unsuitable for trailers is highway 191 from Morenci,Arizona to Alpine, Arizona. I have a fifth wheel that is about 29' long and my friend has a 28' tow behind trailer. Just want the best way from Tucson to Alpine for safe towing. Yes, I have lived here for years and have never gone that way.
Thanks in advance,

RE: Roll up tonneau cover for GMC 2500HD Short Bed

Problem I have with most of them is seeing where the hitch is out the back window with either a tool box or a cover. Perhaps a roll up would not block the view out the back.

RE: GM 6.6 gas

The six speed trans is why I bought a 2019 and not the newer Chevy with the 6.6 gas and the six speed. Also, you can't get a 4:10 rear with that engine/trans in the new trucks. I will keep my 6.0 gasser with the 4:10 diffs until the new trans is offered.

RE: need key help

Locksmith is a good answer. Wife locked keys in our fiver and locksmith had it open in no time. Could have made keys right there at the campsite.

RE: King pin lock

I always lock the pin on my 5th wheel. It only takes a minute and gives me a little more secure feeling with all the nuts out there now. If they try and cut off this lock they will have to cut part of the pin so they can't tow in anyway.
