RE: Forest river wildwood 273qbxl

>> Forest river wildwood 273qbxl Mine is a Forest River Wildwood 27RKSS - although I know RKSS stands for Rear Kitchen Single Slide, I do not know what yours means. The water heater control board in mine went out. That was a common problem. Perhaps you could ask about that. There were other issues that you just have to learn as you go. The thermostat needed to be set to D3. "D" for dofferential. When at "D1" the AC and heater would try to come on at the same time. I had terrible sound system static initially only to find out there were metal shavings bouncing around on the speaker cones. Mostly just sloppy workmanship, but I'd do it all over again if asked.

RE: RV towing on 5 through San Francisco

Where are you coming from? Where are you going to? Unless you want a tight squeeze through San Francisco, there are better routes, for example, to go North to the Redwoods. It is hard to know how to answer this question.

RE: CA 1 from Monterey (Marina) to Half Moon Bay

Thanks! We found a Costco in Santa Cruz and have been using Google Earth to see if we'll be able to do it. Fingers crossed.Santa Cruz is quite a bit north of Monterey. I hope that shows in your plan.

RE: bad starter......

...suggested pushing or towing with another vehicle to the shop... Seems like a questionable mechanic if he suggested this. He should have known better.

RE: Quad Bike mounted to ladder?

A while back a contributor here wrote, "never use the ladder for anything other than climbing to the roof". I've used that as gospel since then.

RE: Can1500w inverter or Honda 2k gen work 900w Microwave

I've been able to run mine while the Honda 2k powers it. In fact, I had to tell the DW to let the generator run for a minute before slapping the MW on. I had to explain to her the generator needs a minute to warm up. She literally pressed the ON button just as the generator fired. I have never tried an inverter.

RE: Maybe a new low?

Well, the good news is you don't seem to be letting the disability stop your wife. Bad news is, as we all know, trailers are poorly constructed. When you beef it up, put it on your list of other repairs you've done. I bet you have a list already.

RE: i-5 san diego thru LA rest stops?

I don't think there are any. I've driven that stretch a dozen times or so. I don't think you'll find any rest stops until you're past the Grapevine.

RE: Another Redwoods Question

The RV park that the OP referred to (and named correctly) is Ancient Redwoods RV Park, not "Giant". http://ancientredwoods.net/ Also, a note on Mattole Rd. out to the campground and beach; it's a *very* rough ride. The road is narrow, mostly bond shaker potholes, and with many "ups and downs". Thanks for pointing that out. I was mistaken.

RE: Road conditions

Can anyone provide me with information regarding the abilities of a 36' Class A with a tow vehicle traveling from Visalia,Ca. via Hwy 152 to Morgan Hill,Ca.? I just want to know if there would be any elevation or grades that would challenge my rig. Again this is Hwy 152 (Pacheco Pass) in Central California. Not too windy or narrow. Moderately steep downhill heading west.

RE: Recommendations for a noob...

Plan on driving slower than you'd normally drive when in the truck without the camnper. 10 mph slower in general.

RE: Another Redwoods Question

We got a spot at Ancient Redwoods RV Park, thanks to this Forum. Now what do we not want to miss while there. Thanks so much. Betsy. We just got back Monday May 3 from there. I don't think they call it "Ancient". I think they call it "Giant". There's a lot to do in the park, including walking down to the River and Movie night. We also drove out Highway 36 to Ruth Lake and went to the "Giant Tree" at 40.34973364899088, -123.99245074621633 on Mattole Rd. http://www.winecountrystarparty.com/images/18414.jpeg width=300 http://www.winecountrystarparty.com/images/20210430_170854.jpg width=300 http://www.winecountrystarparty.com/images/18396.jpeg width=300

RE: Recommendations for a noob...

Not sure of your experience level with purchasing a new camper but the walk thru is very important. Before you accept the truck camper make sure they take you thru every system to make sure all is well I support this as it is almost impossible to take everything in on the first pass. Perhaps ask for the walk through and then ask for a follow up in an hour as you learn what you did not understand.

RE: Star Link

One of our local school systems are using it to extend internet services to some of their students who live in very rural, mountainous areas of our county. According to our technology director, it's working well. These are residences that don't move, so... Reread my post. I was not concerned with latency. I was concerned with the obstructions, no satellite, and beta downtimes and instability.

RE: Mattresses

YES but at least they are cheap. I'd rather my RV cost $500 more than sleep on the @#[email protected]#$ mattress that came with it.

RE: Star Link

From what I see on Youtube of that shows latency, it is much better than Huges Net and would be OK for VPN. That is the difference between low and high orbit satellites. I measure Hughes which was over 150ms and Starlink was below 50ms. The latency becomes infinite during the downtimes I've mentioned. If the application you're using has a long timeout, you're fine.
DarkSkySeeker 03/05/21 10:30am Technology Corner
RE: Star Link

I could not use Hughes because of its high latency time that makes VPN run at modem speeds. I might be over-stating this here, but I think Starlink is wrong to suggest the latency of its system is so good. The obstructions, beta downtime, and no satellites of the beta are nearly unacceptable. Elon says space should be exciting. Starlink is exciting. First there is anticipation about the order, and now I have anticipation about more satellite 'fixing' the downtime issues.

RE: Star Link

It looks to me that it can be used in an RV if you can see the satellites. If not why? The dish is constrained to a "zone". If you go outside that zone, you will not get a signal. There are lots of articles about this if you take just a moment to search. When you order your dish, you declare your "service address", and you are limited to that. I am not sure how big the zone is. I suppose that could be your favorite campground.
