RE: 2014 Expedition towing Airstream

Sorry, a bit confused. Is the Expedition a motorhome? If yes, it is a diesel, right? And rides on airbags. Did you mean to say the Blue Ox hitch is rated 1000 lbs. or did you leave out a "0"?
My understanding is Expedition is a large SUV that shares a lot of suspension, brake, and drive train components with a F150. I might be wrong.
OP, you know 976 is larger than 920, unless you have had a bad case of covid. Now will it explode as soon as you hook it up? No. It might not stop or handle as well with 1200 lbs on the ball. But odds are if you do not get in the car head first*, KNOW you're pushing the limits, you will be fine.
On the short trips we have traveled it actually tows quite well.
Yep, we’ll aware if the weight difference. One of the reasons we ordered a new truck ??
The Expedition is a Ford SUV. The Blue Ox bars are 1000lbs rated bars.
This did come with the HD towing package.
*Millions of miles have convenced me most drivers get in head first. By that I mean but head in driver's seat, sit down, wiggle until the head is firmly implanted, the start the car. It is the job of the rest of public to be sure they safely get where they are going.

2014 Expedition towing Airstream

Hey Guys,
I have a 2014 Expedition XLT. Max towing is 9000 and Max tongue is 920 lbs. We recently bought a 2017 Airstream with a hitch weight of 976 lbs. When we bought this last fall it came with a Blue Ox hitch with 1000lb bars. I have a new truck F250 on order (since August), and I have a chance to buy a 2017 F250 to use until our new truck comes in, but we have no idea when that will be. We have a few trips in early summer with most of our towing within an hour of our house. We do have a bigger trip planned for late July and August and hopefully we'll have our new truck by then. Am I pushing the envelop with this setup? Would air bags help?
Thanks!

Water pump question

Where would I add a winterization kit or use an existing fitting to add antifreeze to my system?
Is the white plastic circle to the left of the pump a filter?
Thanks

RE: New TT Tires

The dealer came way down on the price for the Endurance. Should have them stalled later this week.
Thanks!

50 to 30 amp dog bone

Hey guys,
Anyone use a 50mp to 30 amp dog bone for their RV? In some parks if there are many campers plugged into the 30amp service, would it be acceptable to use to dog bone with a camper with a 30 amp power? I heard of people doing this but just wondering how safe it is.
Thanks,
Deano

RE: New TT Tires

They said Goodyear halted production on those until next year. I just looked on Tire Rack and they have a good priced but show a delivery of February next year. That might explain why the price is so high! I think I’ll wait. Unless I can find some somewhere.
Thanks!!

New TT Tires

Hey everyone,
Picking up a new to us, 2017 Airstream 28 RB. Tires on the TT are original and they have agreed to pay half for 4 new tires. They’re suggesting Goodyear Endurance tires for about $212 each.I’ve used Goodyear Marathons before without any issues, but they no longer make them.
Any suggestions?
Thanks!

RE: Best Quality Travel Trailers

Airstreams are still built with quality in mind. One example is it takes one employee 8 hours to build the door. Try closing the door on one, they’re like a bank vault.

Discovered a small crack in the tank. Anyone ever repair something like this with Flextape?

RE: Fresh water tank leak

I removed the vent and I can now tell that that is only a vent to relive any overflow.
I got ahold of the tech at a local dealer. He said to try to remove some or part of the support brackets along the side of the tank. (See previous side view photo that shows drain vent). Once those brackets have been moved , peel back some of the protective skin and see if the fill hose or something elsemight have come loose. I have notice the last few times out, even though the tank was filled up, the “gauge” inside only reads 2/3 full. I did travel with a full tank and maybe with the heat (it was over 90) and the water sloshing around.

Here is a picture looking from the side of the camper. You can see the drain port in the picture as well, We drove it home today and now it’s not leaking. There is another vent towards the back, right side of the picture. I will try to post another picture
