RE: rodent repellent

Tried some cab fresh from tractor supply. Seemed to work but a little expensive so now I'm trying moth balls. Just don't put them near an air intake!

RE: RV & Auto Parts Return Experience

Success! Yesterday RV & Auto sent me return instructions. UPS will pick up then they will authorize sending replacement.

RE: RV & Auto Parts Return Experience

Finally got an email response from RV & Auto Parts yesterday. At their request I responded with pictures and a description of the damage. FWI, I think the problem is really their supplier in Texas. The tank was in the original Dorman box with no internal packaging material and the end flaps were taped over the original staples. The internal surfaces of the box were considerably damaged. Why do I suspect this item had already been returned by someone else?

RE: RV & Auto Parts Return Experience

The UPS website is set up for returns to the shipper. In this case it was drop shipped and I don't have the identity of the shipper. Sent another email to the seller requesting that information.

Signature wasn't required, so just dumped on porch.

RV & Auto Parts Return Experience

Bought a gas tank from these folks. Arrived with a dent and bent flange. In original Dorman box but with one end taped rather than stapled - already returned by someone else? Return policy for RV & Auto Parts: 15% restocking charge. Customer pays return shipping. Guess I'll live with a damaged gas tank, darn it, and never buy from these guys again.

RE: Motorcycle Towing

There are substantial carriers that attach to a large Class A, but in general the 2" receivers are limited to a 500# tongue load.

RE: Traveling with a Fish

I've moved aquarium fish around the country a number of times. We would carry them in a styrofoam cooler and drop an air stone in when we stopped for the day. The cooler obviously slowed down any temperature changes of the water. We kept the same one on hand for use each time. You may need to "age" the cooler interior before using it the first time. Maybe fill it with water from the aquarium for a few days. They'll need some light so cover with plexiglass when you stop for the day.

RE: Class B camper Van

One crucial item is the length of the bed. I'm 5'9" and have to sleep diagonally. Not good if you're not a solo camper! Most Class B's have both the head and the foot against a vertical surface.

RE: Need 1 more inch of clearance

The a/c shroud usually sets directly on the a/c innards so that's an unlikely option. Reducing the air pressure in the tires is a no brainer. As long as the rims are not riding on the bottom of the tire it will be OK for short distance movements.

RE: Dicor vs. Eternabond

Forgot to mention that I treated the rust with Ospho.

Dicor vs. Eternabond

I have a 2004 Sprinter van so a painted metal roof rather than a membrane. Sprinters are notorious for rusting roof seams. I have removed the old tape, wire brushed the loose rust, applied a little body filler, primed and painted. I suspect these seams will tend to open up again and subsequently rust. I have a roll of Eternabond I was planning to apply but wonder if Dicor would be better. The self-leveling Dicor would be preferable but the roof on the Sprinters wraps down vertically at the sides to terminate in a rain gutter of sorts so might have to use the stiffer version. Is there any "real world experience" to give me guidance on this issue? Is there a way to smooth out the stiffer Dicor? Could the stiffer Dicor be used on the vertical surfaces and self-leveling on the horizontal surfaces? Can you defined the boundaries of the self-leveling with tape and pull it up before the Dicor dries completely?

RE: Modifications for Wheelchair Traveler

After checking with Braunability it appears they only sell through dealers (who I suspect only sell with an installation). Does anyone know where I could source a unit?

RE: Modifications for Wheelchair Traveler

Thanks Caseyontheroad. The Braunability under-vehicle-lift certainly looks like a valid way to adapt my 2005 Sprinter-based Class B. I think I just need to look under the van to see if my water tank needs to be replaced with a shorter one. This van is super low mileage in the 45k range and I would hate to replace it.

RE: Modifications for Wheelchair Traveler

Apparently it can't be done.

RE: Modifications for Wheelchair Traveler

No response? Is there no "real world" experience applicable to this issue?

RE: Is a tandem axle cargo trailer worth the extra $ over single

If you tear up a wheel or if a hub craters you can chain up the offending wheel and limp home. For my single axle motorcycle trailer I carry a spare tire and hub assembly. (You can put brakes on a single axle as well. Plus I have had a tandem wheel where only one axle had brakes.) BTW make sure they don't give you a metric axle.

Modifications for Wheelchair Traveler

Having recently experienced a gout incident I have become interested in outfitting my Class B Sprinter to accommodate travel by a solo (powered?) wheelchair user. Mine is the configuration that has a toilet compartment immediately behind the driver's seat. It appears that one of the Ricon lifts would work in the side door and would allow grabbing the side door from the interior to close it after the wheelchair occupant is lifted inside. It is unsure whether grab handles and room would then allow the person to get into the driver's seat. But, in general, do you have a successful T1N (or similar) modification that allows wheelchair travel? If so, please post pictures of your installation and explain your setup.

RE: Sprinter Class B Wheelchair Accomodation (?)

Not insulted. My terse wording is not meant to offend. (And I'm not on the small side :>). If I back a wheelchair onto the ramp I think I can reach the manual side door frame to pull it closed. I think I can pretty well pull myself upright and hobble around. The armrest on the driver's seat allows easy entry. I'm a solo traveler so I could even remove the co-pilot's seat. My tape will tell me if I fit, but is it really practical? I don't have a wheelchair at the current time so can't experiment.
