RE: Celebrating our 50th anniversary...

Congratulations!!! Our 56th was last month and we celebrated it at our favorite private boondocking spot in the Adirondacks...

RE: Pet Peeves long road trip

I've found in general when I'm merging on to a busy highway with our motorhome and toad that the OTR truckers are usually the most helpful in either moving over or backing off to make a hole for me. I try to return the favor as much as possible...

RE: Powering an Oxygen Concentrator

If your insurance is paying for you concentrator, ask your provider about switching to a portable battery operated model like one of the Inogen One models. The G3 for example, only draws 10 amps using the 12-volt power cord and with their rechargeable double battery runs 10 hours on a charge.

RE: The worst Post Office in the USA... your vote

There are 31,322 post offices in the US. I understand the smallest one is in Ochopee, FL on the Tamiami Trail with outdoor access only, but I wouldn't call it the worst one. For me, I guess the worst one was Ocala, FL since they screwed up a needed package delivery to the Salt Springs sub-office General Delivery twice for me.

RE: Ocala, Florida

Can't go wrong with Salt Springs. Make your reservations early though. A good point, but note that Salt Springs like the other national campgrounds only has a 6 month reservation window...

RE: Ocala, Florida

X3, Salt Springs Recreation Area is one of our favorite winter stops. Verizon cell service is pretty good, and AT&T is ok. We have no problem using our satellite TV service there.

RE: Leaving tow bar connected to MH

Other than occasionally removing the tow bar for cleaning/lubing, it stays in place year round since we travel year round. I do install a weather cover when we're parked for awhile.

RE: Working online while in motion

The basic answer to your question is that the air suspension used in most diesel pusher motorhomes gives a much smoother ride than the leaf or coil spring suspension used in most gas motorhomes.

RE: Sounds about right....

Now that's funny! :) As a seven year fulltiming couple though, I'll just say that we're still out here because it was my wife's idea to give it a try for a couple of years. Surprised the heck out of me, but I was all for it... ;)

RE: Culling the herd....

Some folks know how to do it right. Some years back my wife showed a fellow camper an "up close and personal" photo of a bear and cub she took at Cade's Cove in the Great Smokey's. She then was treated to a 5-minute tirade about how stupid she was to put her life at risk just get a picture along with a list of all dreadful things that could have happened to her. My wife waited patiently until he finally ran out of stream and then said just two words: "Zoom lens"... :)

Try PPL: PPL Motor Homes I've bought parts and appliances from them for years and never had a problem.

RE: Disconnect Power When Using Generator?

The automatic transfer switch contacts can be damaged from switching power sources under load, especially larger loads like air conditioners, electric heaters, etc. There's also a remote, but very rare, possibility that a failed ATS could allow a back feed from one source to another due to welded contacts from arcing. Unplugging from shore power when running on generator power is just a reasonable safety measure. In those situations, I plug a lead light or night light into the shorepower utility outlet so I'll know when the line power is restored.

RE: 2008 Itasca catalytic converter & pipe stolen

The cat will end up at a recycler and the money paid for it will likely end up in a drug dealer's pocket. High clearance vehicles are a favorite target for cat thieves with a cordless sawzall...

RE: Is camping Fun Anymore

We make it a point to pick out state and national park sites that are large enough and spaced away from neighbors as much as possible so larger groups usually are not an issue for us. The photo below is the site we'll be on over the 4th weekend at a state park where fireworks are prohibited. Our daughter will be on the site behind us with her A-frame.

RE: Dish TV Pay-As-You-Go RV Plan

AT&T has mobile plans for satellite users if people use Direct-TV at their home, or use any wired/ fiber AT&T television service. But AT&T refuses to sell Direct-TV to people with no fixed base for their primary receiver setup. Dish is the only option for people like us who have no physical home base. There are many fulltime RV'ers that have DTV service with only their mail forwarding service as their address.

RE: Dish TV Pay-As-You-Go RV Plan

It depends upon the antenna and the box you have. Basically - Dish uses three satellites in the west, two in the east. If the antenna has one LNB, with is the case with almost all dome type dishes - it can only 'see' one satellite at a time. Two different TVs can watch different channels from Dish, IF they are on the same satellite. If they are on different satellites, no can do. If you have a three LNB antenna - it can 'see' all three western satellites at the same time, and different channels on different satellites can be viewed at the same time. Just to clarify, Dish has three eastern satellites as well as three western arc satellites. The third eastern satellite at 77 is mostly SD duplicates and can't be received by all dishes, but it's pretty handy at times for those of us that can use it.

Hot/humid weather, A/C's on. Cold weather, furnaces on. Mild weather, windows open. It's not rocket surgery... ;)
