RE: Roadside Assistance Companies

Coach Net 6 years, search the threads on no service Good Sams. I'll pay a bit more with the knowledge they will be there if I call. They will not look for reasons your not covered. Forgot to change it from one 5W to another, called with a major break down and learned I had forget to switch. Coach Net, give me the VIN on the new 5W, I have no doubt GS would have been sorry your not covered. $900+ tow bill & all I had to do was sign the invoice. I have written about CN great service every time this comes up. Waiting to be put in GS jail for the bad I have to say about the entire GS & Camping World.

RE: Hey Marcus...I’m still not happy

took months for a Love Seat that was on sale, paid for in advance, to arrive. It had to shipped from China and when it arrived they wanted more $$ saying the price had gone up. Bought Dish portable that went bad in a couple months, 1 year warranty & CW I bought from did not want to replace with the receipts. Call Dish and they say take it to CW they are distributors. Blown tire CW est $1500 & a days work. They were in contact with my insurance who told them what they needed. CW sent the info, I offered to pay the $500 deductible and was told it wasn't necessary. I asked they order the needed parts and call I would bring it to them. 5 weeks and no call so I checked was told we can't order parts w/o payment. Took Splendide washer/dryer in quit after a couple months. Dropped off for repair per Splendide, I check back and it is still sitting waiting. Loaded up and took it home, had them send me the part after trouble shooting on the phone. Fixed in a couple days. After 4 bad experiences at Camping World I no longer buy there.

RE: Driving to Durango CO from Moab with a Fifth Wheel

I do it frequently with relatives both sides of Wolf Creek Pass, once in snow, not by choice & not predicted 4" at the summit. Here's some advice from someone drove long haul in the 11 western states: You can go down hill too slow many many times, too fast once. Use low gears, exhaust brake if you have it, and keep speed down, it not a race.

RE: Air Conditioning how many do not use it.

I bought my trailer new in 2005. I think in the last 15 years I've probably turned my AC on a total of 5 times. And three of those times was just curiosity to see it it still turned on. Is there anybody else on here that never uses their AC? You don't live in the desert SW, 7:30PM and it's 94, been 100 plus about a week here in NM & AZ has been worse.

RE: Gets-you-home insurance?

Coachnet, one of the reasons I have them, they will get wife & RV home if needed. The plus is their road side assistance is top notch. 1st question has always been are you safely off the road. Major break down a few years back, tow truck for TV & 1 ton dully for the 5W. Sign the bill, asked driver what the cost was and was told $900 plus. They put the 5W in an RV park, and TV to the repair shop. Apologized for the time it took as the closest could handle the call was over an hour away from me. Took about 1.5-2.0 hrs before they where on scene.

RE: Good Sam or Good Scam?

I chucked GS awhile back because the service in general has gone down hill. A road service for a flat tire cost my friend over $700 because although he had paid they claimed he hadn't "registered". So I went in and checked and much of what they used to offer was gone. I went with Coach Net and have used it once for a lock out and they were right on time. Smart! Been with Coachnet 6 years plus and top notch service. GS is for the new guys don't know better.

RE: Battery toggle switch

Battery disconnect switch. there is still some paracidic draw when turned off, CO, lp, radio. Not if wired properly, In/Out all accessories should be on the out, kills everything. Weeks in the Marina, turn battery cutoff on and start.

RE: Several questions

You sound exactly like the wife & I, but I still do the driving. 1. An advantage to a midsize 5W is you drop it and have a vehicle to drive around. With the class C or A you will need a second vehicle for grocery's or site seeing. 2. The 5W will be more stable in winds than a travel trailer and you don't need weight distribution hitches. As long as the trucks large enough stability's not an issue.. 3. You have one vehicle to maintain not two with the C or A. 4. Backing gets easier the more you do it BUT most places have pull trough sites so you don't have to back. 5. Over all length will be shorter, no tongue like a TT, no towing a second vehicle. Recommendations: Diesel will have more pulling power than gas but will cost a little more in maintenance, up side resales better. Don't start with a small truck get a 3/4 ton or 1 ton prices are close and it will pull most 5W's. Unless your going with a really big 5W you don't need a duel rear wheel. I prefer a crew cab, I can haul groceries inside, my service dog rides in the back seat. I can take passengers, you'll meet people you want to do things with, go to dinner or such. While shopping for the RV you want to be able to get to the fridge, bathroom, and bedroom with it entirely closed. If you can you can make a sandwich, take a potty break in a wide spot or a nap in a rest area w/o having to open everything. I'm retired LEO from WA so PM if you have any questions.

RE: Used Diesel Truck Miles: How many is too many

If the ONLY reason you're switching trucks is for better MPGs you'll need to drive around the world 7X before it would make sense financially. I get it that a diesel would tow better but you can buy a lot of gas for the amount you'll pay to change trucks. I have the same truck and same 3.73 gears and am looking at re-gearing to 4.56 which should help a lot. There is another reason besides financial to want better MPGs. Fueling up while towing especially in an area one is not familiar with is a pain. For some reason the fuel tanks in the gas trucks are the same size as the diesels. So making the switch increases the range a lot. Frankly, if he's already getting 6.9 towing with his present truck, a Cummins diesel isn't going to get but about 8 - 10 mpg at best with that fifth wheel. I agree that getting a diesel doesn't make much sense. And then there's also the price disparity between gas and diesel fuel. Presently, diesel fuel is $2.59 here and gas is $1.99. Before the pandemic hit, the price difference between diesel and gas was .20 to .50 difference extra for diesel so that absorbs the fuel savings substantially. DEF isn't a huge factor as it's pretty inexpensive at Wal-Mart. The only reason to trade for a diesel would be for the improved pulling power. Ford warrantys to 100,000 on the drive train. There is a diesel fuel card available to any diesel driver (TSD for net serch) and I paid $1.19 during the pandemic. Prices are on the rise and the last fill was $1.63 so how are you saving?? BTY my 2015 F350 stock 6.7 pulling 14K get 11+ towing. The newer are supposedly better yet.
