RE: After one day, I am finished.....

At last, somebody that will say they disagree with the protesters, not the right to protest. I agree you have a right to disagree with the goals of BLM, but don't make it a boggy-man by changing their stated goals. Never have they said "Only Black Lives Matter" One of the arguments against them is police kill more whites than blacks. Often this leads to a discussions using percentages and population numbers. IMHO it should expand the discussion to "WHY ARE SO MANY AMERICANS KILLED BY POLICE?" BTW, over 50 years ago, another organization was formed because of police violence against blacks. Their methods, while fearful, did lead to many reforms. I absolutely support the right to peaceful protest. I was doing some protesting of needless lockdowns myself in April and May. I can also recognize the obvious difference between a riot and a protest. One can also ask why are so many police officers killed in the line of duty each year? No sure who is changing stated goals, or making a bogey man out of those changed goals. One should not sugar coat or hide some of those goals either. One goal (directly quoted from the BLM website) that stands out to me is....... "We disrupt the Western-prescribed nuclear family structure requirement by supporting each other as extended families and “villages” that collectively care for one another, especially our children, to the degree that mothers, parents, and children are comfortable." No, I will never support that goal nor any sports league that supports it either.

RE: Pls respect Canadian laws

A good reason to stay out of Canada at the moment. A bit draconian for my tastes, though I see a smattering of applause. I bet the same people would frown on arresting someone for say tearing down a statue. If you don't live in a nursing home, a person has a 1 in 11,500 chance of dying of wuhan virus here in Ohio. (about 1000 deaths out of 11.5 mil people) Much less than that for the average reasonably healthy person. Nursing home population is about 80K, or less than 1%. So we are going to destroy the economy of the other 99% in order to help protect a population that is already quarantined and wearing the all important maaaaaask! Hmmmmmmm

RE: GM HD Trucks Many with AWD instead of 4WD

11,350 is the standard GVWR for a 2500 with the diesel. 10K is an option for those who need it. Just looked at mine again to confirm, 6600 RAWR, payload 3077 and this truck has everything but a sunroof. Supply is tight, but there are some trucks out there. Are you willing to do a road trip to buy one?

RE: GM HD Trucks Many with AWD instead of 4WD

Well, since the original truck I wanted to buy has been "in transit" since January and nowhere to be found, yesterday I pulled the trigger and agreed to a deal on a different 2020 Silverado 2500HD 4WD with the Duramax and Allison 10 speed transmission......kind of! The truck is at a different dealer than who I'm going through so they have to complete a dealer trade. I'll know tomorrow if they can get that part of the deal done. Then I have advised the dealer that before they finalize the trade with the other dealer, I want pictures of the stickers to make sure the payload is good, the RAWR is good, etc. I already know it has the 11,300 GVWR so I'm 90% sure the rest of the numbers will work but I'm leaving nothing to chance. If they can get that stuff done, I'll have a new truck in a few days. If not, I'm back at square one. I hate this whole process. I must have talked with a dozen dealers. Offers were all over the place on both a purchase price of a new truck and the trade in allowance I would get for my 2017 Ram. I had prices from $600 below invoice which is what I agreed to buy the truck for, to only $500 off the MSRP. The trade in allowance varied by over $6000! I'm sure I left money on the table, most people do, but I still got a good deal. Hope it works out for you, they are fantastic trucks. Love mine so far!

RE: New truck first tow report. Good, Bad, Ugly

I apologize for a late report. I have been able to get the system to calibrate for the invisible trailer function by lying to the computer. My trailer is 35' from the camera on the back to the ball, a bit over 3' longer than the limit. The stitching of the image isn't perfect, but not bad. I need more experience with it to decide if I like the invisible view or just the straight rear view out of the trailer camera best. I was very happy with the tow experience, rock solid. Nothing too taxing, some rolling hills in Ohio about 90 miles each way. A bit under 17K combined with a 2500. The 10 speed is sweeeeet!

RE: Need tow vehicle - preferably under 10k

I just sold my Excursion that towed a slightly larger trailer than you have in mind. Definitely a viable option for what you want to do. Mine had 4.30 gears which helped but the more common 3.73 would be OK for 8K. I also have a ProPride hitch. Yes, they are amazing and worth it when you run into that day you have big crosswinds. Even better if you can find one used as I did.

RE: New truck first tow report. Good, Bad, Ugly

Here is the camera a bit less expensive. Your dealer not knowing how to order it actually saved you $150. (It is a $500 option when you order the truck) https://www.shopchevyparts.com/electronics/2020-silverado-2500-transparent-trailer-camera-auxiliary-trailer-camera-models-with-cwm-pdm-uvn/84876818-p-92305265.html The cable on that is 50 some feet. The only thing you lose with having a trailer too long is the "invisible trailer" feature. You can still view the camera alone without the stitched view. (that also uses the tailgate camera) This is the official GM part and I have one installed on my trailer. Allegedly, you can lie to the system and get it to calibrate if you are a bit over the max length, so you may still be OK with the 34' trailer. I have only had mine out once for a trip to the scales to get the hitch set up. I totally forgot to try to get it to calibrate the invisible trailer. We are going camping tomorrow, so I will report back on how that works for my 35' trailer. Even if it will not calibrate, you don't lose much functionality. The invisible trailer feature does not work for 5th wheel trailers regardless of length, but of course the camera does still work. I'm pretty sure once you get your camera installed on your trailer, you will be pleased with the result. Resolution is excellent. One more tip, always have the truck OFF when you plug in the camera. If it is running, it won't recognize it for some reason. Did you get your TPMS system working on the trailer? I still need to get the sensors installed on mine.

RE: Opinion: best value HD truck under 20k?

I say it comes down to individual condition of the truck in question. There is no one model that is so superior that it trumps condition.

RE: 2019–20 CORONAVIRUS PANDEMIC POSTINGS

That is some very good important information. If the infection rate is 5% that means that 95% of the population is still susceptible and virgin territory for this virus. It's a little reassuring that the mortality rate may be much lower than originally suspected. The information seems to show that we have "flattened the curve" nationwide to the point that our health care system as a whole is handling the number of cases. BUT, there are still hotspots where the systems are taxed, in some cases where help outside their own community is needed. With many states starting to relax stay at home orders, we're in uncharted territory because we don't really know the status of the population due to the lack of testing. Best case, we're still going to have hotspots and localized epidemics until a vaccine or therapy or herd immunity occur. Worst case, we'll have a second wave worse than the first, like what happened in the 1918 Spanish Flu epidemic. The big take away is that the virus is still out there. It is prudent to still take precautions, especially for those of us older folks. One thing we aren't in uncharted waters about. Costs of lives is directly tied to unemployment. Well documented and I share some of your favorite sources below. We have deliberately created HUGE unemployment. We must have a balance, there is no such thing as saving all lives by hiding in your house while your house burns down. BTW, I have read the initial post in this thread. Thus here is my documentation of what I am talking about, it's not my opinion as the quoted post above is. Do you want to talk about REAL issues or not? Yale study unemployment & mortality Different study same subject State of VA suicide prevention The Guardian Time magazine "Unemployment is worse than death" Their headline, not mine.

RE: 2500 HD or 3500 HD?

I would agree that 16K off a 2020 isn't happening. Speaking of GM trucks specifically, the 2020 update is significant. Loving mine. It's new, of course it's lovable. :)

Do you still believe these models that have never been right? Some of you talk about the small outbreak at the Smithfield plant like it was the State Fair where the Governor personally shook hands with every attendee. Smithfield processes meat. No biggy if you are a vegetarian. Generally considered an important operation to the rest of us, even perhaps "essential".

N Korea is free from the virus. China has almost no new cases. :W I highly suggest those who would flee a dangerous place like Texas to not stop running until you get to one of those safe places. Fortunately for the rest of us, things seem like they are going to start moving at a glacial pace. But at least it's moving towards reopening. Hope it's not too late. :(

Here's some HOA insanity to go along with virus insanity. The universal irrational safety excuse, "our community was not designed in a way that makes it safe for RVs to be parked outside the townhomes." clicky

RE: And Texas Caves In

Maybe some of you don't realize that large portions of the economy are still working. It's not just a few meatpacking plants. Think about this. About 155 million people were employed in the US just prior to the shutdown. There have been 22 million unemployment claims. Let's guess there are an equal number of self employed out. If you reject that number, we'll use your number. So 44 million out of work, that means 111 million are still working! Many are working from home. Even at that, there are still millions of people out working. Will adding some percentage of workers back into the mix really overwhelm the medical system? To an already overwhelmed medical system? Yes. Exponential contraction is how contagions work and why quarantining is the proven method to slow it down. Is your thought a conspiracy that our scientists and governments want a shutdown for some political or monetary reason and not for health and safety and the ability for hospitals to keep up? And it's not just our own country, all countries are following pandemic protocol to slow the spread. Do you think this is all a hoax, that hospitals really aren't overrun and that releasing quarantines wouldn't cause a spike in cases and more deaths? And what politician would want that blood on their hands? And what workers do we allow to go back to work? Is there a hierarchy on safety or importance? Or a random percentage like a lottery? Is this by State? Again I have to ask, what overwhelmed system? One of my daughters is a nurse in Raleigh at a major hospital there, it's very quiet. I have a different daughter who is a nurse at a major hospital in Cleveland. Same thing, very quiet. I don't claim to speak for all hospitals, but these examples are hardly unusual for much of the country. In fact, hospital layoffs are becoming a common story. Shall I link some for you? Many of us are of the opinion that we (societal) are being too careful. It's not a question of some want us all to die. We just see the risk far differently based on the evidence we can see.
