RE: Generator issue

What year is the generator? The unloaded voltage should be higher. Do you have a frequency setting on your meter to check frequency? The newer gennys have electronic voltage control, I have one from the 80's, transformer voltage control, when unloaded it puts out around 130 volts and around 62 cycles, when I turn AC on the genny rpm drops a bit and then revs up to carry the load. You can measure the volts and frequency at any outlet inside the motorhome. Neutral, white wire, to ground should be 0.

RE: Onan 3.6 won't crank

On the wiring diagram it has the jack pin out where you could see if you have 12 volts at the control board. It is kind of strange, no fuse, you might need the control board. If it was mine I'd be inclined when all figured out to add a fuse.

RE: Onan 3.6 won't crank

This url will take you to a page for your unit, there is a download section where manuals are, in the operator manual section 4 page 21 there appears to only be an AC breaker. This manual does not have a wiring diagram unfortunately. I did find another manual with a wiring diagram, it showed 12 volts going directly to control board, I'll find it again and post link however while it's for a 3.6 not exactly the same model. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&rct=j&q=&esrc=s&source=web&cd=&ved=2ahUKEwi4x9r9oKT6AhVIhIkEHY01CR8QFnoECBAQAQ&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.coloradostandby.com%2Fcummins-onan-3-6-ky-fa-26120-rv-or-commercial-generator-set-rv-qg-3600-lp&usg=AOvVaw2EMtr_TesUTaxXFTnvSi-u

RE: Onan 3.6 won't crank

There is more than one type 3.6, the full model number would help.

RE: Onan 3.6 won't crank

On the the Onan there should be a small plate with the model number and serial number that's the info you need to search the internet accurately, the manuals are online. The 3.6 should flash out an error code on the stop start switch led

RE: Onan 3.6 won't crank

Assuming the info I found on the internet for Onan 3.6 is the model your friend has shows in a pic location of fuse, sort of on the right bottom corner side. My 4000 has it on the front of the control panel.

RE: Onan 3.6 won't crank

There should be a 12 volt fuse near the control panel on the generator. If bad will not crank.

RE: finding the leak

What year is your trailer? Does it have aluminum roof or rubber roof? Different problems depending on material.

RE: onan marquis 7000 generator /no start

Richard, when I used to have air-cooled motorcycles I could come to stop on the highway and put my hand on the fins, the only time they ever got very hot was idling in traffic, no cooling fan The water cooled bikes now get extremely hot all the time.

Hope just a recession and not a depression, every country in the world has massive debt and with never before low interest rates individuals have borrowed well beyond what they can ever repay.

RE: onan marquis 7000 generator /no start

Air cooled engines run hotter than water cooled engines. Thus the manufacture does not recommend multi viscosity oils. BUT! that ruling was for non-synthetic oil. Standard oils loose their multi viscosity capacity when run to hot and thin out. So when running multi viscosity oils in air cooled engines, always use synthetic oil. I have the same generator as you and have used 10W-30 synthetic for 22 years with no problems. Richard Regular multi viscosity oil is fine in an air cooled motor, air cooled motors do not have a thermostat to make them run as hot as water cooled motors. There are no air cooled car or motorcycle engines anymore because they cannot get them to run hot enough for modern fuel injection pollution control systems.

Main jet is plugged, it screws into the bottom of the fuel bowl, usually just unscrew clean and replace.

RE: Expert Fuel Pump Opinions Needed!

My E350 based motorhome has a lift pump in the tank and a fuel pump mounted on the frame just behind the front wheel. If yours the same check electrical connection. That's very interesting. I replaced the fuel filter just behind/below the driver's seat. Didn't see a pump. What year is yours? I assume you mean the left front wheel? I'm not seeing that set-up for a 2002. Mine is a 1986 , the gas supply is set up like fuel injection even though it has a carburetor, there is a pressure relief valve near the carburetor so constant flow through return to tank. The pump is mounted on the frame below drivers seat. I read somewhere it was done that way because in a motorhome the gas tank is farther back, also with the constant flow through the lines less chance of vapor lock.
