RE: Any runners around the campfire?

I used to be ! 5K's, 10K's, half marathon and triathalons. Then I ran my knee into the ground and had a replacement. The doctor that did the surgery said "do not ever run again, or I'll be right back for another replacement. Then it was hard core cycling which I love. I did century rides and metric sentries. From there I went on to canoe and kayaking and not only for pleasure but for racing. Now in my mid eighties, my wife and I both love to ride the bikes at a leisure pace, and still race the canoes and kayaks. Unfortunately this year all the races have been canceled so we just have been "lilly dipping " Hopefully all will be back to normal next year Guy Nothing beats canoeing on a nice day..... Can you bring beer when racing? We don't go often. Once a year we load up the canoes behind the fiver and go for a weekend canoe trip. Sure, but if you miss a stroke with that bent shaft paddle, the boat that has been drafting you is bound to make their move Guy

RE: Lowes has a great price on 20V Dewalt 1/2 drill

From my experience Dewalt is a high priced rip off. Years ago I found out that their batteries were made by the same outfit in China where Sear craftsman were and they cost twice as much. Guy

RE: RV roof UV coating. Worth it?

I do mine once a year. I wash it first and then put on the coating with a sponge mop. It is an easy job and you can get the coating at most RV dealers by the gallon Guy

RE: Drawer latches

On one of our trailers my wife came up with the idea of using velcro. It worked great on the drawers. No reason why it wouldn't work good on cabinet doors also Guy

RE: FL questions

We saw several manatees last year and last week one was spotted near the glass bottom boat maintenance area. They are strays and have to come all the way up the Oklawaha River to get there and are few and far between. The Crystal River on the west coast is another prime place where you can be guaranteed to see them. Especially around the Three Sisters Springs area Guy Thanks for all of your replies Guy. Curious though.. There are advertisements all over the web for the Silver Spring area i.e. "Monkeys and Manatees" etc etc. Are you saying they are there but there are other places with a higher population? Yes, if you want to be assured to paddle with and around Manatees and you don't want to head farther south go to Crystal River. With that said the Silver Springs and the Rainbow River are absolutely beautiful spring runs and are must to see, but not for Manatees. They are few and far between there and I would hate to see your kids disappointed. Guy

RE: FL questions

Across from Silver Springs State Park is the Silver Springs Rv resort and many others. You could walk over to the Springs and rent kayaks. You won't see manatees in Silver Springs or any in the Ocala National Forest spring runs If you can find an RV park close to Blue Springs state Park, you are guaranteed to paddle with the Manatees there and in the Hontoon Dead River and the St Johns River Check out our Google web sit under the "Springs Area" It is https://sites.google.com/site/flkeyskayaktrips/ Guy My friend, you are sadly mistaken. The greatest number of manatees will be found in the runs of springs. Silver Glen and salt springs run get several every winter. Blue Springs run at Blue Springs State Park have enormous populations of manatees every winter. Did you read my second paragraph ??? Guy

RE: FL questions

Manatee Springs SP is a prime location to spot Manatees but they have a short run to the Suwanee River and the park rangers will not let you put your boats in if there Manatees are near in the run or springs. The same is true at Blue Springs where the rangers we positively extreme about no boats or swimmers with Manatees. At Manatee Springs, which has two nice cg, you may be able to carry your kayaks down to the floating dock to launch them. There are big fines for interfering with the critters. Yes but Blue springs flows into the Dead River and Hoontoon River and there are just as many there and nothing from stopping you from paddling there Guy

RE: Interesting project

Could that be carbon fiber ? If yes it would cost an arm and a leg, but would be very light. Guy

RE: Dirt road travel

Depends on the length of the trailer. I took a 19 foot Pioneer all over Alaska on many rough roads and never had a problem. Mine had aluminum and many times I would brush branches with out any problems I would be very leery of taking anything over a 25 footer on rough roads at 20 MPH speeds Guy

RE: Camp Ground Flood in NC

I'm near Asheville, and that is no where near here. It was terrible and many trailers and RV's were washed away. One lady who was rescued said she was in her trailer as it was being carried along by the flood and the only thing that saved here was it got caught between two trees and then she was rescued just before the water completely covered her trailer. RE: The strange ramifications of COVID shutdowns

Sales on frozen turkeys means more supplies to go in our freezer. We’re one of those who don’t mind cooking large birds for just the two of us. I just pick the carcass clean putting the bits of cooked meat back into the freezer for future meals. We’re not traveling to higher risk areas (my family near Chicago her family in SC) or having guests for thanksgiving. We’ve not decided what the two of us will have for thanksgiving; turkey (need to buy) vs leg or loin of lamb (already in freezer). Same here -just yesterday we bought two 18 pounders at .67 per pound. I love the drumsticks, and the brown meat. Then a week later bits of turkey in gravy over mashed potatoes. Then a month later home made turkey and vegetable soup with home made bread. Guy

RE: Any one else giving up snow birding due to the covid

After all these posts, we have changed our mines and figure we'll get out of "Dodge" some time either just before or just after Christmas. Last week we had a few nights below freezing and thinking of what's to come in the high country here of NC at elev 3000. We are going to gamble, head to our paradise in Key Largo and spend the days in our hidden in the mangroves salt water jacuzzi with it's sandy bottom and crystal clear water Guy

RE: Finally took delivery!

You did good ! After four trailers, we did the same thing as you. We ordered through a dealer and had it custom built at the factory. We made many changes to our liking and had to wait, but the dealer kept us updated monthly. That was two years ago and so far we had nothing go wrong with it after two snow birding seasons Enjoy it Guy
