RE: The worst Post Office in the USA... your vote

I don't know about the worst, but I know the best is mine - in Bakersville, NC. I never see the postmaster, but the two ladies that work their couldn't be any more friendly or helpful. I have a PO box and if I have a card in the box telling me that I have a package that is too big for the box, I don't even have to give them the card, or tell them the box number. When they see me, they hustle and get the package. I would rate my PO a ten star one. Also where we snow bird in Key Largo the PO is excellent The only problem I have with the PO is the people running the system that are putting it in the red, (both the management and the union) Guy

RE: Pet Peeves long road trip

Welcome to the club ! We who pride our selves in driving defensively and in accordance with the law seem to be in a minority. It is so bad, that I fully expect to see it every time I get behind the wheel. Guy

RE: A question for some older folks in Boston !

DID CHARLIE EVER GET OF OFF THAT TRAIN ? What did he do about restrictions because or Covid 19 ? I am the only one who knows - He got off at Scollay Square; snuck up the escaltor and headed to the Old Howard. He enjoyed it so much he is still there. Guy (54 English High grad)

RE: 100 days till snowbirding........ maybe not

We own our own Rv lot in Key largo and every year can't wait to get down there. Right now unless they come out with a vaccine our plans are to stay right in our home in the mountains of NC. I heat with wood, and have a good seasoned supply that will take me through the winter. Guy

RE: Travel Trailer Rubber Roof Blew Off

I am curious; Did your dealer get that trailer from a show ? From an experience I had with a new trailer I have a feeling that the manufacturers pawn their rejects off at the shows Guy

RE: Update since buying my first TT

When I used to have a problem getting the coupling off the ball, I solved it by prior to doing it take the pin that secures the coupling to the receiver out. then raise the tongue jack. This relieves the pressure that is holding the two together. Just make sure your trailer wheels are chocked or you still have your safety chains attached. especially if your trailer is on a grade Guy

RE: Do ice cubes in the black tank really work?

RE: Seen It Before

When I go out my back door to chase them away from eating our flowers, many times it is a stand off between one of them and myself. Instead of them running off, one will put his/her head down, paw the ground, and snort, until I finally throw a hand full of dirt at it. One time in the fall during the rut I had to actually retreat back into my shop when a big buck, did the above, but then started toward me. I welcome them when they just pass through, but when they stop for a snack, it's a different story Guy

RE: Crack in Black Tank

I would go with the West Systems "G-Flex epoxy" if it was mine. I work with it a lot on repairing plastic, fiberglasss and carbon fiber canoes and kayaks. It was one of the few epoxies that is made for plastic. Give West Systems a call and they will walk you through the process Guy

RE: A Minor Consequence of Touch Screen Technology

I have the same problem, but in reverse. I am old fashion along with being older than dirt, and have a flip phone, and nothing that is touch screen except my new Toyota Tacoma. Every time I point out something on the screen, to my wife, like the temperature, the darn thing changes to some strange thing like "blue tooth". I only have a few teeth left as it is and I sure as heck don't want any of them blue ! Guy

RE: Snow Birds ??

Yes, we will be returning to our own site in Key Largo. We normally go in October, but this year we might wait till after Thanksgiving as long as there is no snow here in the high mountains of NC. We couldn't ask for a better place to keep away from other people. Each day we head out on our paddleboards to the mangroves, where we hang out in our own secluded hidden natural salt water jacuzzi with a sandy bottom. We sit with and feed the Parrot fish, and lots of other tropical fish as they swim around us. Guy

RE: Missing the Dishwasher

Snowbirds here -I would put a dishwasher in if I had the space, but I have built in cabinets in all the available space. We solved the washer/drier problem with a dockbox directly behind the trailer and have regular home size ones from Lowes I plumbed it from my water supply and into my sewer hook up and I wired it underground from my electric post Guy

RE: Do useless gifts bug you like they bug me?

For father's day, one of my many daughters sent me a lowes gift certificate which has to be down loaded and printed out, or some how or other getting on a phone to present to the cashier. If it wasn't for my computer competent wife, I would have deleted it. I have an old flip phone, don't know how to download anything, and haven't a clue how to operate a printer. These wives of ours come in pretty handy at times like this Guy

RE: ? 12-Inch Female-Female Hose - What For?

Buy another with a male connection at each end. Connect each end of the male to each end of the female. Now get a stake a pound it into the ground and you have a nice ring toss game. Guy

RE: Burning Holly

Once again, Google is our friend: Aug 29, 2013 ยท Holly: A good firewood that will burn when green, but best if dried a year. It is fast burning with a bright flame but little heat. It is fast burning with a bright flame but little heat. Hornbeam: Burns almost as good as beech with a hot slow burning fire. Unless I can cut beach at fireplace size, I want no part of it. The only way you can split it is with a hydraulic log splitter. Try splitting it with a sledge hammer and an eastwing wedge, and the wedge will just bounce off it. My favorite for color is Locust and Cheery. Locust puts out beautiful purple and blue flames. Guy

Burning Holly

Any one ever burn Holly in either a camp fire or your fire place ? Last year I cut down a big Holly, about 7" in diameter, and I am wondering how it will burn in our fire place. The logs are perfect fire watching size. The wood is very dense and heavy, so I am guessing it will need three or four years to season. Guy

RE: Ghost Story

We bought from the bank, a big, old, (1800 hundreds) southern plantation house that had been abandoned and restored it over a three year period, and after living there I am a firmly believer in ghosts. We have a bunch of stories about them, but here is a quick one. The dining room was a big formal one that had three doors. One from the front hall, one from the middle hall and one from the kitchen. One night we, (my wife, myself and our eight kids) were all seated and just starting to eat, when the dog who was always by one of the kids seats, started a low growl, and then facing the front hall door started barking. The door opened, and heavy foot prints clomped through it and it closed. then the clomping crossed to the hall door. That one opened, the clomping went through it and the door closed. I could write a book about other similar incidents, none of which could be explained. So I am a firm believer that there is more than we know about in this world Guy

RE: Towing Travel Trailers

My experience with towing three different trailers. If you have sway bars and your trailer is perfectly on the same plane as your tow vehicle, (balanced perfectly), you should have no problem with sway. Possibly a bit when a tractor trailer passes you at 70 MPH, but if you see him coming and just hold the wheel tighter you'll have no problem. Don't worry about a blow out. With tandem wheels you won't even notice it. One time doing sixty, I heard a loud bang and didn't even know what caused it until I looked in the mirror and saw that I was leaving a trail of shredded rubber behind me Guy
