Keeping door under awning dry

Many Rvs these days have a slide out immediately to the left of the door into the unit, mine included where the awning ends about the edge of the door. Has anyone come up with a good solution to "extend" a dry spot by the door when it is raining? Thanks Dan

RE: Best Wheel Chocks

Nope, those can, and will, pop out. Definitely don't use those to chock your wheels. I certainly wouldn't trust them. If tires are far apart I agree. If close as in pic above they won't budge. Yep, the wide spaced ones look sketchy but we have the ones pictured and they don't move. Dan

RE: RV Sales Push

However, like DKS said above, once the honeymoon period is over (usually after the second or third trip out!), then they'll either sit in the backyard slowly rotting hardly being used or they'll be hitting the market for sale within the next couple or so years, as other forms of travel get back on track. That of course is assuming it does! That is true, lot of buying on a whim out there. I though for one love camping just as much as I did when we bought our first camper 24 years ago, of course we both grew up camping. Fortunately our fifth doesn't sit around idle. Dan

RE: Need input into newer GM D/A dually trucks

The Duramax used thru 2016 was the LML. In 2017 they started with a new Duramax called the L5P. The L5P uses a Denso fuel system instead of a Bosch system. The old Bosch CP4 injection pump had a bad reputation for failures on both Chevy and Ford diesels. When the pump went out it generally took the rest of the fuel system with it. I would much prefer a 2017 or newer with the Denso pump. The L5P also gained 80 hp and 250 lb ft. This is one of the reasons I traded in my 2012 Duramax last fall with about 109K on it. While it was a good truck I knew it had the CP4 in it and it was a potential ticking time bomb. The other reason is I didn't want the first year of a redesign of the 2020's not to mention the look especially the Chevy's are controversial, plus deals were to be had on the 2019's last fall. I agree with the 2017-2019 model years is where I would shop. Dan

RE: Cracker Barrel

Has anyone else noticed that most of the people that don't like CB are from the north? Maybe yall just don't like SOUTHERN cooking. I know when I was trucking I hated the food up north. Cracker Barrel is SOUTHERN cooking. Northerners typically prefer blander, less seasoned food (I know, because I grew up in Michigan with that kind of fare). Accept CB for what it is. If you don't like it, don't eat there -- simple as that. I'm from Michigan also and I love Cracker Barrel breakfast. I often get breakfast (mamas pancake breakfast is my favorite) for supper when I'm there.:B For the cost I think they have the best breakfast of any chain I've been too. I know the one by me is usually always busy. Dan

RE: Fords new 7.3 Godzilla

I built a 3/4T 7.3 4wd on the Ferd site and it would let me chose 3.55 or 4.30 gearing but not 3.73 unless I went to the 6.2L. It also would not let me upgrade the alt without going to the 6.2L eng. The 6.2 is not available with the 10 speed like the 7.3. Also the 7.3 can be upgraded with dual batteries and alt. I didn't try to build a 6.2 and no, I could not upgrade the alt. I did build a 350 and I could then get the 3.73 Diff but the only alt upgrade is the big 397 amp unit which requires dual batterys (no thanks). If you only want the 240A you have to go to the 6.2 or 325A unit requires PSD. I might go for the 4.3 diff if I could find out what kind of RPM it's doing in 10th gear @ 60 mph. Of course, I'm no tready to give up my Cummins in the very near future but some day I'd like to get a new truck that's dependable and diesels aint. I'm not sure where you get that diesels aren't dependable; I'm not in the least bit worried about mine.... :h I'm not the least bit worried either, I'm on my 3rd diesel (2004,2012,2019)and my second modern emissions equipped one as well. They have all treated me well. The only person I personally know that ever had major issues with one was a pre emmissions 2004 Duramax. Define dependable, even the so called bullet proof gassers will break down. With 25-30% better mileage towing or not towing, mountains of torque etc., it's worth the perceived idea of them not being reliable. Dan

RE: Required signing waiver of responsibilty

I located the following information for the OP. It comes from the website https://www.murphyprachthauser.com/blog/camping-in-wisconsin-the-complete-guide New Rules in Wisconsin You Should Know Effective April 1, 2016, campground owners can only be held liable for injuries where the owner intentionally causes injury or acts in a willful or wanton disregard for the safety of others, which are essentially criminal standards. An owner can also be held liable for failing to warn about a dangerous inconspicuous condition the owner knows about. However, a campground owner cannot be held liable for failing to make its property safe, and has no obligation to inspect or police the grounds for dangers that may exist. The bottom line from all of this is that private campground owners no longer have an incentive to inspect and make changes to their property, because they rarely will be held liable. The safer thing to do is use the public campgrounds, which are not motivated by profit and will not cut corners to make more money. Do you have questions? Let us know in the comments! I was just going to post something along these lines. I have never had to sign a waiver to camp at a private park. Sounds like they are covering their behind for hazards they may or may not know of. Easy fix for that uneven sidewalk they haven't fixed. I probably would still go as you probably won't find anything else at this point but I would pass on this place after this trip. Dan

RE: Is camping Fun Anymore

I remember as a kid camping in the state parks the rangers would keep a tight leash on quiet hours. They would walk the loops in the evening keeping things in check. We had them stop by our site before on more than one occasion mainly because we had one cousin with a loud voice and a louder laugh. Dan

Fifth wheel hitch height trick

I know this is nothing exciting but its a little slow around here plus this is a handy trick for those of us who do not have the self leveling option with the hitch height memory. Anyway I keep a pair of these pull type (not ratchet) straps in the fifth wheel and when I unhitch I simply hang this on the pin box and pull the strap until it just touches the ground BEFORE I raise or lower for leveling. When we are ready to leave I simply rehang it back and raise or lower it until it just touches the ground again and we have the exact height where we unhitched. Again nothing exciting but a simple, quick and effective trick. Dan https://i.imgur.com/SKzYGwbl.jpg

RE: TorkLift Glow Step Resolution Install

"IF" I were to buy any aftermarket step it would be the Glow step!!! They contacted me and asked if I would test them. I was contacted also when these first came out...I wish I had taken their offer... but my trailer was new and didn't feel the need at the time. What do I have to do to get contacted? I would happily try them out...:B Not sure other than they follow forums and such. They contacted me and I did take advantage of their generous offer. They truly are a great company that builds great equipment. Dan

RE: 1/2 ton sticker shock

I doubt there is a 1/2 ton Chevy out there that would cost $70k after incentives or rebates. If someone did pay that kind of money they have no negotiating skills. Dan

RE: Michigan state parks extend closures

Some of the top lawyers in the state have pointed to the flaw in her logic, and as a constitutional issue, her authority expired on 4/30. Legislature is preparing lawsuits to bring her in check. WRT to the virus, according to the official state records, ALL OTHER FORMS OF DEATH have substantially decreased. Even the official state records, as ridiculous as those are, don't even come close to matching the published CV death rates. There is no way that cancer, heart disease, strokes, etc, which are steady year in and year out have dropped up to 50% of prior levels this year. I don't buy the data as presented. I agree. It has been reported on the news of people dying from it as well as my brother in law knows of someone who has passed and did not have COVID. They are reporting some deaths as COVID deaths even when they haven't had it or verified it. Attorneys are involved from what I hear of the person my BIL knows i'm told. Dan

Michigan state parks extend closures

They extended state park camping closures until at least June 21 Sorry folks I know some of you will disagree and say that this good to shut everything down but this is getting ridicules. Might as well close them forever as something else might come along. You can easily social distance and not come in contact with anybody or park staff. Just dont get it. Close the restrooms and nature centers if you must but camping too? I feel 100 times more in danger at a Walmart than at a campground. I honestly don't get the logic they have for what can be open and what cannot around here. Dan

RE: HOA says NO to temp RV for Dr.

And this is why I don't live in a association based development. DanYes that is fine. Lots of people are tired of the junk and poorly maintained houses of a development with no enforceable rules and would not live in a place without an association. To each their own. Just read the rules and be perfectly willing to follow them and even embrace them. Or embrace freedom for better or worse. I too would not want to live around everybody's junk either, fortunately we live in a nicer development where people for the most part take some pride in ownership. You can live in nice developments without having to live with a HOA. Lots of HOA's are great but we all hear about the ones that are dictatorships that often make the news. Dan
