RE: Sharing our location/travels with others

I'm pretty sure Google Maps has the means to do what you want.....but don't recall specifics on how to build it. In Google maps, you can just share your location with other gmail users. They will automatically see wherever your phone is.

RE: How to Eternabond around pipes?

I would just get as close as I could with the Eternabond, then use lap sealant around the pipe, etc for the small areas that were missed

RE: New laptop?

Don’t know how to link this. Walmart has a Lenovo 3 11” celeron 4gb/32gb chromebook for $169. With a ChromeBook, you're basically doing everything online so a locally installed version of TaxAct probably won't work.

RE: toilet seal

Recently had the same problem with mine. Thetford Aqua Magic II. Had to turn off water, disconnect lines, remove toilet from floor flange. Flip toilet upside down, separate toilet in the middle and replace seal. Reverse steps. If you get the seal kit, also replace the floor seal at the same time. Depends on the model. On my Dometic with the China bowl, you just hold the pedal down to move the ball over and reach in and pull the seal out of the groove. Takes about 20 seconds if you're very slow. Other models might require some disassembly. Why did you have to remove it from the flange? I thought you could separate it while still bolted down. And I watched one video where no disassembly was required to replace the seal. I suppose a contortionist could've done it without removing but I'm not that limber. It's just too **** close to the wall.

RE: One night stays and black/grey tanks

For one night stays where we're taking showers and doing dishes, I'll typically hook up the sewer hose and leave gray valves open. Unless the black is at least half full, it's just not worth the time and effort for me to dump and flush. It 'might' even help clean the sensors or break up TP by letting that stuff slosh around while going down the road.

RE: Are My Tanks Really Empty?

Not sure what size tanks you have but 10 seconds isn't long. I had an issue with a previous 5er where the tank cutout got pushed in front of the drain pipe and restricted outflow. That may be your situation here. For the black tank - do you let it get full before dumping? I wait until the toilet burps before dumping. That allows plenty of water volume to help flush stuff out. The sensors will rarely be accurate after the first few uses.

RE: Preparing to Camp Host

You could also look at different options. There are a few good paying temp, seasonal jobs that could pay for your camping for the rest of the year, especially if both of you work. I'm talking about things like the sugar beet harvest and Amazon. A couple working 3 months at Amazon for peak season can definitely take the rest of the year off. This option avoids the worst parts of camp hosting.

RE: Camping in sub freezing weather

When it's below freezing outside, keep cabinet doors open inside under your sinks so they can also get heat.

RE: The state of full time RVing in 2020 - RVs and TVs.

Wasn't there an 'explosion' of people going fulltime when the economy tanked in 08-09? Haven't heard about that with the pandemic although I have heard of more people camping as a way of social distancing. FWIW, I've been fulltiming since 2006 and guess I've had exceptional luck with my 5ers. I learned a LOT with my first one and hope to make this one last much longer. My TV is still the original 2006 Dodge Ram.

RE: Jury Duty

The last time I got a jury notice (and there have been a few), a questionnaire was included with the notice. One of the questions was round trip commute distance to the courthouse. I consulted Google maps and provided an honest answer - 2800 miles. I was excused.

RE: Roof Vent Cover

Those are generally available at a decent price at any RV dealer. If you have the luxury of time you may be able to find a better deal on the Internet. As SteveB noted, they're 14 x 14. Check the hinge on your current vent lid to make sure you get a compatible replacement.

RE: Safety Cat Travel Carrier Recommendations?

I pull a 5er and my cat rides in the 5er unrestrained. She has access to her favorite hidey hole, litter and food. In your case, I might consider a divider just behind your chairs so the cat can't get underfoot and interfere with driving. Otherwise, they seem to manage well in a moving vehicle.

RE: Help trip from Ohio to Yellowstone Mount Rushmore Blackhills

If you're a Good Sam member, you can use their online trip planner Take your pick which area you want to visit first, Yellowstone or Black Hills. Mt. Rushmore is 1 day at most, sometimes only a few hours but there's a lot more to see and do in the Black Hills, especially if you like hiking.

US 83 through southern South Dakota

Has anyone been on this road recently? I'm looking specifically at the section from Mission to the Nebraska state line. I didn't see any Covid checkpoints listed on the SD DoT website but did see some news articles about the Rosebud reservation implementing something after some other tribes did.

RE: RVing during Pandemic and looking relocate

Plenty of RV parks and campgrounds open right now. How much they mitigate against the virus is hit or miss so I would avoid the common areas as much as possible.

RE: Should we cancel Myrtle Beach Trip

You would be going into a tourist area. Conditions can change at any time. Personally, I believe the medical experts re number of deaths. Even without dying, you could spend weeks or months in a debilitated condition. And who knows about long term effects? If I went, I'd stay out of bars, restaurants, museums, etc. Hell, I'd even stay off a crowded beach.

RE: Checking on Wheel Bearing Heat

Yes, they should be close although the side receiving the sun will be elevated. I use an infrared temp gun from Harbor Freight and it makes checking temps very easy. They are very reasonable there. This ^^^^^^^^

RE: RV awning cleaning

Use a soft bristle brush on an extensible pole. Relieves a lot of stress on the arms but you'll still get wet.
