RE: Ford V-10 vs GM Vortec for towing

We live in Florida and usually tow on flat land but we did take a trip last year up to the Smokey mountains and towed my wife's Jeep that I estimate is about 4500lbs. The Ford V10 did a great job.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good Morning FOOFs I haven't posted in some time but I try and read this forum every morning to see how folks are doing. I know a lot of you are waiting on the COVID vaccination. All my friends here in Florida who have signed up for their vaccinations have already gotten their first dose. My next door neighbor is scheduled to get his second dose on Friday. I just turned 50 so it will be awhile before I am eligible. Right now you have to be 65 or over to be eligible for the shot in Florida. The wife and I have a weekend trip planned during the Super Bowl weekend. We are going to the same place as we did last Super Bowl weekend. Last year was a lot of fun as everyone's sites were decked out for the team they were rooting for. Will be interesting to see how this year plays out with COVID. I hope everyone had a great day. I'm sorry to hear about your son Richard. I have a friend that is bi polar and it is like she has two personalities. One day she would be a very sweet person and the next day she was angry and spiteful. You never knew which person you were going to get. I hope he can get some help. Burch

RE: Anyone heading to Suncoast Designers in 2021?

Can't help you with the message but they did a great job fixing our foggy windows in our Motorhome earlier this year.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Merry Christmas! Cold front came through last night and we are only supposed to have a high of 58 degrees here in West Central Florida today. Even colder tomorrow. Too cold for my Florida blood! There are freeze warnings tonight in the area. Hoping all the local famers make out OK. Burch

It's supposed to hit 80 here today in Florida. We have had a cool few weeks but warming up today. I hope everyone is doing well. Burch

RE: 2021 Chassis Class A Motorhomes

I have read on another forum of a few people who have the new F53 V8 chassis. Apparently there are issues with the spark plug wires overheating and causing misfires. There is an easy fix but supplies are hard to come by right now as the new parts are on back order.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

I just went through the calendar again and saw where Lola made it in the December page. Can't believe I missed it the first time through. Then, I flipped the calendar over and saw more pictures on the back. Monty has his picture there! The only dog that didn't make the calendar was Pinto.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Not much posting here lately. I hope everyone is doing OK. Our exterminator service made some calendars and the profits go to the local animal shelter. The calendars are full of pet pictures. They asked us to send in some pictures of our dogs. My two Jack Russells (both now at the rainbow bridge) are in the calendar! We sent pictures of all our dogs but the Jacks won out. Donna bought $100 worth of calendars (10 of them) and will be giving them out to family and friends. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Burch we stayed there in 2014 in Winter for a week or so. Was on site 2 on the water. My wife follows them on Facebook and they have made some upgrades since we have been there. I really would like to go back. Maybe someday. We are on site 17 on the water. They have very nice landscaping between the sites. The only thing I don't like is they run the sprinklers twice a day and it's hard to sit outside when there is a breeze without getting wet. I wish they would run the sprinklers in the middle of the night. We are really enjoying our stay and the weather has been very nice so far. Wish we would stay longer but we both have to be back at work on Monday. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Glad you like our area! The Irish pub in Destin is fun. The whole of the ceiling and walls are covered in dollar bills. :) WE usually keep clear of that area as they have been working on US98 forever. I call it the world's longest construction project! Next weekend we are heading north from here to Three Rivers State Park for a few days in the new 5er, to get all the 'kinks' worked out :) We ended up going back to the motorhome for lunch. We went to the boardwalk area across from the Irish pub and the weather was so nice, we wanted to be outside so we had lunch at our site. We are here until Friday so maybe we will make it another day.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Good morning FOOFs We are camping in Navarre Beach Florida in the Santa Rosa RV resort. This place is a little pricey but it is very nice. We have a spot on the water. This is our first week off since last October when we traveled to Sevierville. I am hoping that work leaves me alone this week. We are planning a trip to Destin today to do some touristy things and eat lunch. There is an Irish pub that we are going to. On Mondays they have a Sheppards pie special so I'm going to try that. Not sure what else we will do this week. We will be heading back home on Friday. I wish this wasn't so far from our home as we really like this area and would come up here more often but it's 500 miles from us. With only having 3 weeks of vacation time, it really limits how far we can travel from home. I hope everyone is doing well. Burch

RE: Stairs not working

I work on Hundreds of Kwikee steps every year and have for 40 years. Since they changed the controller about 20 years ago to a new style, I have NOT replaced a controller in all that time. New style Controllers are replaced either due to incompetance when attempting to fix(they burn it out by connecting or hot wiring wires) or they just want to sell a part. Motors? all the time. 2 sets in 3 years? IMPOSSIBLE. Doug The local RV service center I took the motorhome to was surprised that I had the stairs worked on so many times. The first time the controller/motor was replaced was by a mobile repair tech. The stairs had also been worked on by camping world 3 times (they never replaced any parts though). The place that fixed it this time I trust. They are a local family owned business and I have taken my motorhome there several times now and their work is very good and they charge a fair price. Who knows, maybe the mobile tech messed something up when he worked on them last time. I think he said the controller was bad and when he replaced it, the stairs still didn't work so he replaced the motor and that fixed it. It was covered under warranty (except the labor since I had a mobile tech do the work) so I didn't think much of it at the time. I am just hoping they stay fixed this time.

RE: Stairs not working

OP here. Thought I would update on my stair fix. I finally was able to get the motorhome to a local dealer and they said both the motor and controller were bad. They tried just replacing the motor but no luck. They purchased a "kit" which cost $450. The stairs are working again. They are actually working very well now, very smooth. The stairs had always been a little jerky-jerky before and now they come out and go in very smooth. Hopefully they will stay working now! This is the second motor and controller replacement since I purchased the motorhome new in 2017.

Dale, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hadn't checked the forum in a few days and seems to be a lot of bad news. :( Richard, hopefully the medication will help. Burch

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Wow, that is scary stuff! I take for granted how easy it is to pull our Jeep behind the motorhome. I always forget it's behind us unless I have the backup camera on. I used to always check the tow bars every time I stop for fuel but I have gotten out of the habit of checking. I will be checking from now on! Burch

RE: Stairs not working

Wow, that seems like a super excessive amount of trouble with the steps. Is there road dirt or water getting thrown up on the motor or something? No. The motorhome is stored in an enclosed garage. I don't think we have ever even driven on a dirt road. I live in Florida and we do get a lot of rain but the motorhome is kept clean and the stairs are lubricated and move freely when I manually move them.

RE: A very old stray {The Old Fella Story}

Spoke to Richard on the phone yesterday. It was really nice to speak with him. I wish we could do another get together like we did in Sevierville last October. That was the only gathering I have been able to attend. Burch
