RE: Truck flooded

With salt water, even if they flush everything and get it running, the first rain all sorts of strange things will happen because of the remaining salt that didn't get totally removed.

RE: Traveling Mailbox and Florida Domicile

We use the PassPort America/Good Sam service out of Crestview, FL. If a Good Sam member there's a discount. When we changed from NY to FL the DMV required two two bill using the FL address.

RE: Wheel chocks

I had them, then forgot one day upon leaving. Pulled out of the site, then gave a quick look to make sure we weren't leaving anything and there they were, laying on the ground. Didn't even feel the least bit of resistance when moving.

RE: I need new Tires

There are many, many folks that have switched to Sailuns and putting many miles with no issues, other than a Road Hazard failure or two.

RE: Storage space vs phoney fireplace.

We originally thought they were silly, until we had one, now wouldn't be without one.

RE: Storage space vs phoney fireplace.

How about putting hinges on one side of the Fire Place and a latch on the other, build your storage behind it in the current dead space and have the best of both worlds.

RE: Adding on board Generator

We have an OEM Onan 5.5 Propane Generator in our unit. Most factory installed Gennys in Trailers are Propane powered because of the lack of a place for a fuel tank, unless you have a ToyHauler that has it's own fuel station. We can run almost every thing in our unit, but under full load it burns through approx a gallon of Propane per hour, so it will empty a 40 tank in approx 8 to 10 hours.

RE: The better 5th wheeler?

If you have lots of money, DRV has or did have a very nice up scale Tow Hauler.

RE: Snow Birds ??

We have our reservations confirmed for this Winter and will be going because we no longer have a working heat system in the home base, so no staying in Western New York in the Winter.

RE: The more I learn, the more I realize what I don't know

Then you and your family are probably in the minority, because just about anytime there is a MH vs 5er, the folks are always talking about the wife making lunch while hubby is driving down the highway. Then of course there is always the story of the Driver setting the cruise control and getting up to go to the bathroom.

RE: The more I learn, the more I realize what I don't know

I'll add a couple of thoughts: You mention about the wife and son wandering around in the MH while traveling, have you ever thought what would happen if someone cut in front of you and you had to lock the brakes?? They become missiles, enough said. Now to setup and tear down: We traveled all one summer with our 5er and friends in their 40' DP with Toad. We have hydraulic levers so setup and tear downs were pretty much equal between us, as we both had to hookup sewer, water, and electric, we had to unhook the TV they had to unhook their toad. The only real difference we have an onboard propane genny which will burn through a 40 pound tank in approx 10 hours under heavy load, their onboard diesel genny can run until they get down to approx 1/4 tank of fuel. Only you can make the decision what's best for you and yours.

RE: Slide Toppers on a slide that has an awning attached

We have a Slide topper and awning on our DS Living/dinning slide. Ordered that way from the Factory.

RE: Can’t find low point release valve

On our 2010 Montana there was no drain valve for the fresh water tank, just a white flex PVC line hanging down from the tank with screw on cap. You just removed the cap to drain the fresh water tank.

RE: Interesting way to tow a 5er

If it were Red Greene, the hitch would be fastened in place with DUCT TAPE, then you would be good to go.

Lowes or Home Depot are your friends. Go check out kitchen water filter options and just change it out.

RE: Suburban Water Heater electric heating element question

Well all three of our 5th Wheels, 2010, 2012, & 2016, have had a Suburban water heater with two switches inside, one DSI for Gas and one electric, plus the little black switch in the lower left corner of the heater it's self.

RE: 5th wheel verses travel trailer

That Salesman didn't lie, your Duramax could pull anything on the lot. He just didn't tell you that you couldn't carry the pin weight.
