RE: Class A fleetwood discovery - should we purchase ??

This much works indicates it has been neglected for quite a while. I'll be buying my next RV to travel, not work. This seems like a ton of work even if you get the guy to "give" it to you. I'm inclined to think what you're seeing is just the tip of the "berg."

RE: 1st time long distance trip need advice

Somebody finally said it, but I'll underscore. Get a copy of Next Exit. We keep a hard copy right between the pilot and navigator. If anything goes awry with plan A, you can use that handy reference to see place that can handle your rig. I just bought the newest edition on Amazon for a friend, like $25 ish. I always plan my trips out. I have diverted from plan, but i try to keep it reasonable to begin with. I scope out gas stops in advance so I know where and when I'm stopping. (yes, it can change=Next Exit) Same for overnight. I prefer NOT to stay in parking lots, especially when towing. Many do tho.

RE: Michigan to Arizona route advice

I think you've been pointed to enough weather related apps and you'll be paying close attention. but to address "what kind of snow are we talking about"...I was headed east around Deming NM in October. Started to snow. I thought "it's the southwest, how bad could it get?" In short order you couldn't see well, I had to get right in behind a semi and follow his tracks. Soon after it was hitting my front bumper while i was in his tracks. I could feel slip ice building. Clearly I needed to get off the road. But there are not a ton of safe places to get off on some of those stretches. So stay up on the weather and know your options. Be safe, relax.

RE: Grand Canyon June 2022

Just to complete the weather possibilities picture...we were in Phoenix area on June 11am it was 111 degrees. Made the mental note to visit in gentler times. South rim slightly cooler but worth consideration. Personally I would skip CA with that amount of time and focus on seeing sites between your home and GC. Including Sedona.

RE: RVs over 10 years old are valueless

Stay in state and federal parks. They are cheaper and nicer. Yes, I was wondering if it was the 15 year old unit or the attitude of a 15 year old. Hope it all works out for the OP sorry, dumba$$ here. pulled the wrong quote. disregard, standing down. ugh

RE: Glacier National Park and Mount Rushmore campgrounds

Another vote for Rafter J. Loved everything about it. base camped there and did a lot in the area. Had a wooded spot for a 35 footer with Jeep. No issues.

RE: Gasser guys and gals ...why not a diesel ?

I know many of you are having fun beating each other over the head with your experiences and I too enjoy it. And I for one, still deciding, find it useful. Any additional detail or depth on cost related items would be great. Like is it really $235 for an oil change? They just tried to charge my daughter $75 for one on an older sedan, so maybe 235 isn't that far off? Can that job be done DIY? Again, this is helpful. Thanks

RE: Renting your RV

I would never rent mine out. However, reading these replies, which I totally agree with, I have to chuckle. I have also read many many times here how people should rent one to see which RVs might suit them best. I find your options to rent are really pricey and/or barebones. El Monte RV isn't gonna be like one you'd buy going up a grade. The DP on Outdoorsy costs $450 a day and has extreme limits on mileage and genny use. Peace and love to all who deal with rentals, but it just seems like a huge PIA.

RE: Outrageous CA registration fee!

So....back on topic. I think OP has a point and needs to check with DMV. My Auto purchase price 21K. Registration $218. We do pay a ton more than many states. Real life case. Porsche SUV CA registration $980. **** right, effing luxury car. Same car moves to Idaho, $90.

RE: Motor coach with bunks recommendations for family

I think we are going to put an offer in. :-) and based on the market's very hot asking prices, i'd love to know what you end up paying...yeah, i feel weird asking. But I'm close to retirement as well and they market is still very high. trying to get a feel to see it it is softening a bit.

RE: Gassing Your Gasser

I try hard to plan my gas stops out ahead of time. Obviously it won't work out exactly every time. So I also carry and use "Next Exit." Big reference book ($20 something on amazon) and it stakes out each exit on US Interstates. Marked in red are stations that can handle long rv rigs. It has never let me down. Obviously if you take other routes it doesn't help much. I also do some internet research. Figure out what towns or cities you'll look to refuel and look up the stations that can handle the rig. Then verify on google earth. CAUTION: I see many have recommended Costco. I would too...EXCEPT my two costco stations near me are iffy at best. Both have sharp turns at exit. One I wouldn't even try, the other you have to be all the way right pump to get out with a Toad. BUT i have seen many other while travelling that are super easy. and you can't beat the prices most times.
