RE: RVs over 10 years old are valueless

Stay in state and federal parks. They are cheaper and nicer. Yes, I was wondering if it was the 15 year old unit or the attitude of a 15 year old. Hope it all works out for the OP sorry, dumba$$ here. pulled the wrong quote. disregard, standing down. ugh

RE: Glacier National Park and Mount Rushmore campgrounds

Another vote for Rafter J. Loved everything about it. base camped there and did a lot in the area. Had a wooded spot for a 35 footer with Jeep. No issues.

RE: Gasser guys and gals ...why not a diesel ?

I know many of you are having fun beating each other over the head with your experiences and I too enjoy it. And I for one, still deciding, find it useful. Any additional detail or depth on cost related items would be great. Like is it really $235 for an oil change? They just tried to charge my daughter $75 for one on an older sedan, so maybe 235 isn't that far off? Can that job be done DIY? Again, this is helpful. Thanks

RE: Renting your RV

I would never rent mine out. However, reading these replies, which I totally agree with, I have to chuckle. I have also read many many times here how people should rent one to see which RVs might suit them best. I find your options to rent are really pricey and/or barebones. El Monte RV isn't gonna be like one you'd buy going up a grade. The DP on Outdoorsy costs $450 a day and has extreme limits on mileage and genny use. Peace and love to all who deal with rentals, but it just seems like a huge PIA.

RE: Outrageous CA registration fee!

So....back on topic. I think OP has a point and needs to check with DMV. My Auto purchase price 21K. Registration $218. We do pay a ton more than many states. Real life case. Porsche SUV CA registration $980. **** right, effing luxury car. Same car moves to Idaho, $90.

RE: Motor coach with bunks recommendations for family

I think we are going to put an offer in. :-) and based on the market's very hot asking prices, i'd love to know what you end up paying...yeah, i feel weird asking. But I'm close to retirement as well and they market is still very high. trying to get a feel to see it it is softening a bit.

RE: Gassing Your Gasser

I try hard to plan my gas stops out ahead of time. Obviously it won't work out exactly every time. So I also carry and use "Next Exit." Big reference book ($20 something on amazon) and it stakes out each exit on US Interstates. Marked in red are stations that can handle long rv rigs. It has never let me down. Obviously if you take other routes it doesn't help much. I also do some internet research. Figure out what towns or cities you'll look to refuel and look up the stations that can handle the rig. Then verify on google earth. CAUTION: I see many have recommended Costco. I would too...EXCEPT my two costco stations near me are iffy at best. Both have sharp turns at exit. One I wouldn't even try, the other you have to be all the way right pump to get out with a Toad. BUT i have seen many other while travelling that are super easy. and you can't beat the prices most times.

RE: Fuel Mileage on 8.1 Workhorse

Curious and kind of related. What criteria do you all use to calculate fuel stops? Yeah, gas gauge is a pretty good indicator. But for those who don't dwell or calculate MPG a lot...?

RE: 80's 454 fuel supply challenges

I hope you get to a solution. But it almost sounds like you have my old RV. Should be a pic in my profile.

RE: So Cal to Yellowstone

We did the I-15 route from Sandy Eggo. Left 4am so we'd miss the extreme heat at the grades going up from Baker and then through the Vegas area. First night in Beaver Utah. Next day to Idaho Falls. Stocked up in IF and left for Jackson in the am. There were seven rigs with us on this trip. Some novice rentals. So it was pretty doable.

RE: Can you buy in one state and register in another

Just for consideration. If you buy a new RV at a dealer in Florida make sure you can have warranty service done elsewhere. Most new RVs have some issues that you'll want to have addressed.

RE: Best place to sell class A motorhome

I'm not a fan of Craigslist because to me there are way too many scammers. HOWEVER, i sold the unit in my profile to a guy in China. Yes, China. He was there teaching English and was coming back and wanted an RV to tour the US in. Sent me half the money from China to hold until he got here. I also agree quality pictures are a must. Look at PPL out of Texas and do what they do. Same shots, angles, subject matter. Blurry or useless close ups of whatever ruin otherwise great ads on RV Trader. And bless whoever said remove or hide your personal stuff. You don't need silk flowers or faux breakfast in bed trays. Again, PPL. Example, a power drill sitting on driver seat. "What are they fixing?" Messy looking master bed. "Is this how they took care of the RV?" They matter.

RE: New again, remind me

Thanks all. Keep em coming. I will definitely be buying used. Paying cash. Still researching gasser vs diesel. The higher operating costs of the D concerns me. Some advice was to consider if you'll spend more time driving it or camping in it...good point. I'll be pulling lighter toads. This jeep and hopefully my workhorse Scion xA. But I don't want to worry or labor every grade on our travels. Anyway, great info here. Open to more. Thanks again

RE: Report out of California.

Local experience. Not everyone out right now is a newbie. A LOT of people are tired of staying home and being restricted. So any chance they have they are getting out. Just going to the beach is insane, and the weather hasn't been great. A lot of people who have RVs have been parked for 18-20 months and it's go time. NOW add the newbies.

93 North out of Vegas

Is it two lane north out of Vegas all the way to Idaho? Are there any grades? Regular passing lanes? It shows quicker route but I don't want to be stressed about passing, slowing traffic, or impatient folks passing where they shouldn't. And I'm sure it's toasty up that route in July as well. TIA

RE: Montana

We had one destination, Glacier, and we only went there for the day. But we did a lot of exploring between Missoula and Glacier and LOVED IT ALL. The rapids running through downtown Missoula. Just sat and watched. Great food around there too. Then nearby rafting and zip lining. The cherries on the way up to Flathead Lake. Stopped at wide spots to just take it in. Not gonna move in, because I get that. But I love your state and I'll be back, to visit.

How would setting up a jeep to tow cost 2400-3000?

RE: New again, remind me

ok. 2006 350 Cat Diesel, 45000 miles, no DEF fluid needed. Spartan Chassis. Allison. Thoughts? Coach appears immaculate. What do I need to know about this engine?
