RE: Flying J frustrations - Alternatives?

fwiw, i recently saw that the Haslam family sold their stand alone Pilot stations and "will concentrate on their Pilot/Flying J stations".
The 38 locations around Knoxville that are being sold to Casey's General Stores are convenience stores, not truck stops/travel centers. The privately held company that operates them is wholly owned by the Haslam family and the sale will have no effect on the 750 PFJ travel centers owned by the Pilot Company that the Haslams own 50.1% of. Berkshire Hathaway and FJ Management (former Flying J) own the balance.
exactly right. i think i said the same thing. albeit with less detail. thanks for that.

RE: interstate 40 from New York to Las Vegas

Lots of states do that, unfortunately. I've read a lot of that occurs on I-10 in LA.

Whatever it is, its a lot closer to politics than science. And BOTH sides distort the heck out of it.

RE: Pet peeve, neighbors leave porch light on

I've forgotten before and left my porch lite on all night. Felt terrible. If someone had said something to me, i would have fallen all over myself apologizing. So if its me, Please remind me how inconsiderate i've been!

RE: Avoiding Nashville

I havent gone thru there in a few years, but when i did i just drove straight thru and tried to time it away from rush hours. I never found the bypass to save any time.

RE: Black Eye

Reminds me of a 60 minutes show i saw back in the 80s(?) about a class A going up a western state mountain and dragging something important that was creating sparks like the 4th of July and setting brush on fire all along the way. People were honking and waving like mad at him and he just puttered along without a care in the world. Asked by the interviewer what he thought about all that commotion going on around him, he said something like "i get that all the time and i just ignore them."
He was charged with negligently starting a forest fire (or something like that, which i think was ultimately dismissed) and ordered to pay hundreds of thousands of dollars of restitution(which, last i heard, he was still on the hook for).
I still laugh at his idiot attitude when i think about that incident.

RE: Extended Warranty: Why do I need it?

ApexAZ, if youre happy with it, that is all that matters. You obviously did your due diligence.

Tire covers not only matter, the color/heat retention properties do also. At least so sez a retired tire company engineer.

RE: Panther Creek

... it's a great campground. We go there when we can't travel further away just because. Every now and then a bear can show up almost anywhere, for the most part they are not a regular thing at Panther Creek....
Agreed. And if you play disc golf, they have a Great course. I believe the most recent state championships were held here.

RE: Tire covers

According to Roger Marble (after his wonderful talk at an FMAC rally) modern ties are not subject to much damage from UV as the inhibitors are now included in the outer layers. What is an issue is heat. He was careful to point out that even in the northern climates, tires in the sun can accumulate a lot of heat. So, if you are buying tire covers, get the white or silver.

RE: Extended Warranty: Why do I need it?

Also, lets back up a step. imo, you shouldnt be trusting/using the dealership's financial guy. Check with your local credit unions and banks and i bet you find a better deal.
And fwiw, i never buy extended warranties. Sucker's bet- THEY have all the data AND decide if they will honor it or jerk you around until you give up.

RE: Tire Tread on a TT

Thanks, i thought i was missing something. Seems like a lot of TTs these days like to push their 'off road' tires. About the only advantage i can think of (now that you mention desert) is possibly a wider footprint for soft sand/mud.

Tire Tread on a TT

Can someone explain to me how an aggressive/knobby/offroad tread on a trailer tire has any significant benefit while towing. Apart from a thick knob catching a nail or piece of glass that is shorter than the knob, i cant see this as an advantage during any towing, off or on pavement. I mean, youre dragging the thing anyway.
(beyond that it looks cool of course- thats a given :) )
