RE: Traveling with Propane on

Yes, we always ran with LP on UNTIL we stopped for fuel. I would pull over before we got to the station and turn it off at the cylinder. After fueling, I would pull out of the station, or at least away from the fuel pumps, and turn it back on. Then I would enter the TT to make sure the frig was lit again. Safety first!! Wait a minute... If all you do is turn off the valve at the cylinder, isn't the fridge still on and the igniter is now trying to light and 'sparking' until it shuts itself off? Now, leaving your fridge in a "check" state and even if you turn the cylinder valve back on, the fridge is not going to just lite itself again, is it?? Maybe I missed something in your statement? If I were to turn mine off (which I don't do) unless the trailer is going to sit out of level for a period of time while on the road, I turn it off on the panel, but leave the valves alone. Only time I've ever had to turn the fridge and the valves off was on a ferry.. Anyway, to the OP.. There are literally "thousands" of posts on this topic and you are either in the 'camp' of "I leave it on", or "I never run with it on"... There are the ones that shut down while fueling, and that's fine.. In the end, it's just your own "risk/reward" kind of thing.. :) Do whatever makes you feel comfortable as you go down the road, as there are a million other things to worry about when in transit!! Good luck! Mitch

RE: Fuel cost in your area

Running at $5.30 at major stations. Some have as low as $4.80 Not what I paid when in Wenatchee and the Coulee Dam area since May?? "major stations" is what? I saw a min of $5.39 for reg. I don't care about the oil burner stuff, as I don't need that, but dang... It's too much too even if you drive a VW.. :) Just gonna pay what it is when I need it as that's what it is now, and even saving 50/ gallon still sucks, when it's over $3/gallon.... Mitch

RE: Tight turn across narrow culvert?

No desire to put in a new colvert if possible. Well, there you go.... I can't think of anyway to make your rig do anything else than you can now, so??? Your idea of building some sort of 'bridge', would just not work for me... Just add some culvert, some gravel, dirt, whatever to make the driveway wider and be done with it?? That's just my opinion with what info you provided, so unless there is more to the deal, there you go.. :) Good luck! Mitch

RE: Credit Cards For Fuel Discounts

I just got a "76" card.. I'm not full time or diesel.. Just want something other than 7-11, wally mart, costco, safeway, etc gas... Been noticing that their prices are not all that much lower? I see 76 stations (on average) at least .30 lower than the shells, cheverons, etc... I really only go to shell, chevron otherwise and get a .10 off of the pump and .04 on the bill.. Same deal with 76, but they all seem to be .30 lower off the bat, so.... Also, the F150 is parked in the garage and only used to tow... Daily grind is now in the 2014 Ford Escape "Titanium" 2.0 EcoBoost... :) Love it for day to day.. I do miss driving the truck daily. But, $100 fill up compared to $50 fill ups for the same miles is helping a TON! :) Camping... Well, that's just the cost of it now.. So I deal with it and don't worry about it, 'cause I ain't not going camping to save a few $$ Mitch

RE: F53 Hitch update.

I think it's gonna be the limitation of the F53's frame itself, and not just the hitch? You can probably get any one of the universal fit "Super Hitches" with a 2.5" shank that will have that hitch rating... But, if you just bolt it up to the rigs stock location and don't do any reinforcing of the frame itself, you are essentially in the same boat. But, if you are going to do all the extra custom work to do that, more power to ya! V10, 14 year old rig... GCWR is probably only #26,000 at best. I think the #5000 'tow rating' is more for the vehicle and not just the hitch?? Good luck! Mitch

RE: Fireworks

Yep.. My wife volunteers at an animal shelter and we never go away for the 4th... I totally respect the 'meaning' of the holiday, but the amount of fireworks that are lit off those days leading up to it is just insane... She deals with so many 'stray' (scared) animals that week, they fill up! Then, when the owners are called and have to 'bail' them out, all they do is complain that "it wasn't my fault.." Anyway, our cats hide for several days before and after the event because of our neighbors blowing them off all week long... Not supposed to do that according to the 'law'... But, no one enforces it.. How many houses, property and physical harm is going to happen this year?? Already heard of a 14 year old kid blowing his hand off and seriously maiming the other hand and also injuring his friend when one when off in his hand... I grew up with fireworks as a kid, but I never really got 'into it' like others.. I enjoyed the big shows that was put on for that night... Not just lighting them off in my driveway.. Each to their own I guess... That's why I stay home with the hoses ready to go around my house! :) Mitch

RE: Furrion Glass stove tops

Has anyone had experience with the glass cover on the range "exploding" and bits of glass flying within the RV? No, but what were YOUR circumstances that lead up to the event? I really have no idea why they would but a glass cover on such a large area that produces goobs and goobs of heat? I took out the battery for the auto ignite cause I'd lean against it just reaching to the upper cabinet/microwave.. Sure, the knob has to be turned on too.. But, still. No need to have it as I've always used a fireplace 'clicker' to light them anyway. If that ever happens to me, I'll just replace with a wooden cutting board and call it a day. Good luck! Mitch

RE: Battery disconnect - switch or fuse?

Mine came with one. It's under the propane tanks. You have to reach under and then turn the red 'key'. I'm not sure how it's wired, but it's probably on the NEG cable I would think since it's an RV? Mitch

RE: When the water pump turns on by itself.

Yeah, I know... I've been surprised by things on the road that the 'driveway' run did not show too over the last couple decades of doing this. But, just think if you had been hooked up to city water... The toilet valve would have still failed, but other than water flowing from the bowl, no warning.. I hope all the folks that hook up to city water, turn it OFF when they leave the site for an extended period of time for the day (ie: day trip).. I always turn off my pump before leaving the even an hour or the whole day. I've seen 2 RV's in the camp ground with water coming out of the corners of the rig in my time... Turned off the city water for them and waited to tell them why I had to do that.. But it was kinda obvious when they got back. Mitch

RE: RV retail sales drop 31% April year over year.

"approaching $5/gallon..." Ha, ha... I'd jump all over 'only' $5 gas! At least for the gas I get.. I use 92 octane for the F150 and it's got a 36 gallon tank. When the pump shuts off at $100 and that's really only 1/2 tank, that's where it is and what it costs these days.. I ain't cancelling any planned trips this year, but I have started driving my Mom's 2014 Ford Escape for the daily grind! F150 has not left the garage for over 2 weeks now! Wait until it gets to $10/gallon... ha, ha! Mitch

RE: When the water pump turns on by itself.

Great example of why I pretty much only use my onboard water and pump when 'camping'.. Even at sites with water hookups.. Been doing this for the last 20 years.. :) I know stuff can happen while on the road too, but I always do my 'driveway' tests before leaving for a trip. Get all the services going a day or two before and monitor. I will switch the pump off, let is sit over night and switch it back on. If it runs, then I'll start looking around, but so far, it does not trigger, so I know it's all tight. It's also that the pumps 'valve' could be weak and just letting water/pressure go back to the tank... But, never hurts to check the lines where you can find them and the toilet is usually the first place to look. Good catch cbshoestrig! Mitch

RE: thoughts on Ecoboost

Anything that needs that much attention belongs in someone else's garage. Yep, and that's why mine is in my garage.. ;) I thought towing something heavy always needed some extra 'attention' while doing it?? :) Mitch

RE: thoughts on Ecoboost

Been towing with my 13 F150 Ecoboost since new. First with the old #5000 TT I used to tow with the 97 F150 with the 5.4. Different 5.4 than in your 09 however.. You could not give me a truck with the 5.4 3v in it... Garbage IMO.. Anyway, Moved up to a #7000 TT in 2019 and have not looked back.. I did have to switch to 92 octane fuel for the Eco however to take advantage of all of it's potential.. Which, BTW, has proven to me anyway, that it does make a difference... :) You do gotta watch how much 'boost' you give it on the grades.. Those turbos will heat up the motor pretty quick. Also, don't lug the engine either thinking you are saving gas by lowering your rpms while towing... Don't work that way.. Yes, your rpms are lower, but your boost is higher, so it just dumps more fuel in it, and also creates more heat at the same time. Keep the rpms around the 2200 range while on the flats and it'll actually give you a bit better mpgs than running lower rpms.. I'll give it a 'thumbs up' with the disclaimer that you have to know your rig and just not put it in gear and stab the go pedal.. :) Good luck! Mitch

RE: Life member logo missing

I would guess all three of you would not mind if your annual membership logo did not show up either. Ha, ha.. :) I've got a bunch of free Good Sam stickers I put on my garage 'beer fridge' when they would send me membership junk mail.. I remember back in the 70's you'd see that Good Sam sticker on RV's of the day and since I was just a kid, I didn't really know what it meant.. I thought they just bought their rigs from the same place! ha, ha.. Anyway, the places I go don't do the discounts and such for membership, so I've never been one.. To the OP, it does seem to be that the actual link you have for your logo pick is no longer active, so that's why it does not show. (if you right click on the logo symbol and select 'copy image address' and then 'paste' that into your web browser, you'll see the link does not exist any longer.) I think you have to find the logo image again, and update your signature with that new address?? Good luck! Mitch

RE: Battery wiring help, please

If all else fails, follow a cable and if it attaches to the frame of the trailer, that's the negative or "ground" cable. If the other one goes into a 'box' under the rig, then that's gonna be the positive or "hot" cable. If you did hook them up backwards the first time, you could have blown a fuse or 2 on the converter. Might be on the unit itself, and not in the "fuse box" you can easily access.. If that's the case, might need more help on it.. Good luck! Mitch

RE: Rivan truck tow vehicle

Even at the quick charge stations, don't you still need a couple of hours to charge the thing? I don't know if all the ones that are out there now are "free"? I'd think you would have to pay for the electric you use? Or am I wrong on that? I've never looked into it, or cared for that matter.. I did just "borrow" my mom's 2014 Ford Escort "Titanium" to help with my gas bill for my daily commute (about 40 miles round trip). It's got the 2.0 "EcoBoost" in it and only has 44,000 miles on it. The deal is to try to sell it or I can buy it for a nice 'family discount' if it comes to that.. With gas going to $6/gallon soon, the F150 will just be the tow vehicle for now! Mitch

RE: Remember to keep alert while driving..

Dang Chevman... That is always a scary/hairy situation when others are passing. I've had to adjust my line/speed a couple of times when the passing vehicle didn't time it quite right either.. I also let up on my speed to let them just pass and get as far away from me as they please. Mitch

It's been a couple of years, but here was another close call I had... This time I did swerve to miss it, 'cause that would have hurt if I hit that! Missing a metal shelf in the road Mitch

Remember to keep alert while driving..

This is from my dash cam on our first camping trip of 2022. We are on I90 going East not too far from Vantage, WA. loose pallets I was very lucky in that the pallets were FLAT ones and hit the road just before I slowed down and split second decision to keep going straight. (I was also towing my #7000 TT and there were some 20-25 mph side winds going on). Note the car that passes me on my left.. I could not move over and somehow I knew that he was there... Another lucky incident while on the road for sure.. :) Mitch
