RE: Rexall fuel gauge

I really don't know what chassis this is mounted on, other than it is a 460 Ford. I did read that on most class A's the tank has to be dropped to get at the sending unit, but I have also seen mention of them being accessible via the floor or hidden panels in the compartments. I'm hoping that even if the unit is at the top of the tank, where it grounds may be accessible as this can be the culprit.

RE: Rexall fuel gauge

We eventually figured out to check which wire from the tank and crawled under there this morning. Where is the sending unit, went all the way around it and could see nothing. Is it on top of the tank? We went under the bed and all there is there is the water tank and a solid floor with no access panels. Do you have drop the tank to get at the sending unit? Thanks!

RE: Rexall fuel gauge

Thanks for your help(s) ! I cant get under the tank to look at it , so we'll have to get her son to get under there. How many wires go to the sending unit, two or three?

Rexall fuel gauge

I've been an RV'er for a long time but never a motorhome. An old widow friend is fixing up her MH before selling it. The only thing left is the fuel gauge, tank is full but gauge shows empty. Is there a way to tell if it is either the tank sending unit or the gauge itself. Thanks!

RE: one more thing to worry about

I could not believe the number of people that would get out of car, then reach back in with their L shaped thing we are not supposed to talk about back in the car. Can someone explain this! (I cannot imagine leaving cash and credit cards in the car)

RE: Antenna cable .

I think I got it! The centre wire was SO thin, but I was able to remove enough of the white insulator to expose just enough of the conductor to splice it to a wire I'd attached to the male bit. I'm half way through stripping some lamp cord to wrap around as an insulator. It was a toss up between doing all this or partially removing the roof liner to get at the antenna to put a new cable in! Gets me out of the house! ;)

RE: Antenna cable .

OEM Motorola plugs/sockets are generally not designed to be removed and reused once installed. That's what I just found out! I ended up cutting off the female plug as it could not be completely opened up to repair it. I thought I could just wire the two halves together. BUT the actual antenna wire looks like a SINGLE very thin strand of copper. I can't imagine how to strip that! Thanks for the info!

RE: Antenna cable .

The radio failed again so I pulled the car apart and found that the problem does not appear tp be in the male plug. I can hold it and tug it any way, in and out , and the signal does not fade. My body acts as a pretty good antenna! So the problem must be in the soldering in the female part, or the way that they connect together. I can't see any way of opening it up!

RE: Antenna cable .

The car is a 2006 Mazda 6, and the antenna is in three sections with two connections, one in the C pillar and the other down by the drivers footwell. I had thought that the problem was just the connector not making good contact , but I see now that it's probably a loose connection in one of the ends, probably the male one. Of course the antenna is working now , but the next time it goes, I'll have to pull it apart and see if I can re solder it! Thanks for all your help.

RE: Antenna cable .

I've put it all back together now and won't open it again until I fix it one way or another. When I say it's not a coax, I mean that the connector does not look like a TV antenna connector, I'm sure that it is shielded, but the cable is thinner than a TV cable. I could not find an exact Google match image but this is fairly close Image except the main body is plastic with a slot on each side with a metal compression fitting . The central 'peg' is about the size of an RCA phono plug. Anything I could add to the connection to make it a better contact?

Antenna cable .

I'm not sure where to post this as it involves the antenna in our vehicle. We've had a problem with the radio for a while and have finally traced it to a loose connection behind the panel behind our 'C' pillar. It is just a push fit, but it does not maintain a good contact and keeps cutting out. It's in a protected spot , not dirty but even after using contact cleaner it still does not maintain the connection. Anything I can do before I cut the cables and splice them together? It appears to be a single, non co-axil cable. Thanks

RE: Vancouver Island

Just saw this now. It was great to meet you and Hazel a few years ago and wish you all the best for 2022. BTW, we had a rare White Christmas and an even heavier snowfall a few days ago. It's been 25 years since we had snow on the ground for this long!

RE: Solar flare -- more auroral activity?

It arrived really late, 5am PDST, and was seen low on the horizon from the north end of the Island. This will be the last time I do an aurora warning post on Facebook! :o

RE: Medicare

We get quite a few US channels, and often they just leave the US commercials in. I've noticed all these Medicare ads. Maybe someone can explain why they advertise it as I thought it was a government programme, like Universal Healthcare for old folks. Why advertise?

RE: StrangeThings

I remember a few years ago when a guy was trying to get a personilised plate for his vehicle. He wrote his requested plate in, but in the '2nd choice' area he wrote 'NO PLATE', as if he couldn't get want he wanted, he didn't want any plate. Sure enough, in a few weeks a packaged arrived with the 'No Plate ' plate , but in the meantime he had received dozens of parking tickets, as vehicles illegally parked with no plates, were written up as such, but somehow they now all found their way on to his file! can't quite remember how it ended up, but I think that he wanted to keep the plate and wanted the DMV to change their billing system!

RE: Alaska Sept 2022

Yes, part of it is legal requirement, but those are two very delightful destinations. Would hate to see them removed from the itineraries. Thanks Wolfe! I hope a lot more think like that!:)

RE: Alaska Sept 2022

I think everyone here is wondering how many cruise ships will make a stop in Canada if they don't have to!
