Another Dometic AC Question

My 2020 Dometic BriskAir II 15k unit will sometimes only run the fan without the compressor coming on, though it seems only during the night, with the fan set to Auto. I’ve confirmed the thermostat is accurate and usually set to 74 degrees, and will operate normally when it calls for cooling, but will come on with fan only for a few minutes in early morning while connected to shore power or generator. Last night it happened at least 3 times with the outside temp also being in the 70’s. Is anyone else noticing this happening too and considered “normal”? BTW, this is our 2nd unit after the original (2019) lost all refrigerant and the new unit came with the fan blades being very out-of-balance, causing a lot of vibration in the TT for about 6 months before replacements finally arrived! The new unit was so loud it would wake my wife & I every time it came on and I couldn’t tell if the compressor was engaging when it came on, at least not until I felt cooling. I have installed a Dometic-approved soft-start capacitor to allow us to use a 3800w Inverter Generator when boondocking and sure that has nothing to do with this “issue” in question.

RE: Backup/rear view Camera Reccomendations

I’ve recently purchased and installed the Leekooluu wireless LK7 camera with 7” monitor for our 32’ long TT and, after a 450 mile trip at 60mph with it always on, I was very impressed with the image quality without any signal loss, but I never had a chance to use it at night. Our TT was already wired for the Furion camera, but our budget wasn’t going to allow that purchase. At this time, I feel comfortable recommending it and it is capable of displaying 2 camera images at the same time.

RE: New and looking for a generator

I don’t see that anyone has mentioned WEN brand inverter generators, so I’ll throw that suggestion out there to consider. I did a lot of research for over a year before buying my 3800 watt WEN unit for our 32’ TT and couldn’t be happier. Granted the unit does weight 98lbs, but it’s very well built, super quiet, has more than enough power for our needs (with 15K AC for our pup in the Summer) and we caught it ON SALE for well under the Champion 3400 watt I had originally considered! Even when not on sale, it is priced below most and ships free when purchased directly from WEN. I had also considered buying (2) of the WEN 2300 watt units with parallel cables, allowing me to use a single unit in Spring & Fall or both during the Summer months, but ultimately decided to just go with the single 3800 watt for less maintenance. Plus, the 3800 unit already has the 30A outlet built-in, so no adapters needed like on the Predator and some other brands!

RE: Need recommendations for a new Short Queen size mattress

We are in our 2nd year and 2nd TT with a 8” thick Zinus short Queen foam mattress, we told the dealer to keep the new mattress in the new TT and haven’t regretted it for 1 minute! We love it so much we got the 12” Zinus for our home Queen, all on Amazon “in a box”.

RE: F150 and Reflection 150 series?

As far as tire pressure in the TV, I run 45# cold in all 4 to allow for the added load. We’ve decided to bite-the-bullet and have ordered the Hensley Hitch in hopes it will do what we need to be comfortable towing our 32’ TT, since it does come with a 60 day money back guarantee. Thanks again to all!

RE: F150 and Reflection 150 series?

Thanks for the added info, I’ve already spoken to Terry at Hensley and making a decision tonight, but it does sound very promising in solving our issue with sway.

RE: F150 and Reflection 150 series?

BarneyS, I’m going to take your advice and look deeper into the Hensley/ProPride option, after spending the last 3 hours looking at Reviews and YouTubes of people who have gone to that hitch for exactly the same reason we were considering moving to a 5er, since we truly enjoy the TT we own. Thanks to all you 5er owners who stepped up to help a TT owner work towards the right solution when I cold have posted this in the TT Forum instead!!

RE: F150 and Reflection 150 series?

Thanks for all the great info & suggestions! As far as weight check: not yet, just never the right time while traveling and no scales near home. However, I based the 750# tongue weight figure based on dry specs plus a very heavy foam mattress and a fully packed front storage, as well as carrying 15 gallons of fresh. Of our (4) 40 gallon tanks, only the fresh is totally in front of the axles and why we always dump the others before leaving campsites. We do have a tote as well. Regarding the Hensley, it would be such a huge risk because of the cost to our budget, only to find it didn’t correct the issue with no recourse. If there was a guarantee it would solve it, then less risk. BTW, the GVRW of our TT is 7400# and we can’t be close to that. Yes, we would really like a 5er, but we also really love this TT’s layout and size, plus we got a really good deal on it.

RE: F150 and Reflection 150 series?

Thanks JIMNLIN, you appear right on the money with the numbers I anticipate, though staying on the low side of it all with just my wife & I not full-timing it. We NEVER run with full tanks and carry just enough fresh to handle stops in route. As far as hitch weight, I plan to use the Anderson Ultimate to keep that weight low and to keep the bed clear as my daily driver, regardless of the “warranty”comments.

RE: F150 and Reflection 150 series?

That’s the first I’ve heard of the bed height being an issue with the 4WD models, so good to know. That was the conversation my wife & I had on the way back from FL was not wanting to take another long trip with this combination, hence the desire to move up to a 5er that we can handle with this truck. As far as the amount of squat when hitching, I was surprised at how little there was with the 750lbs of this TT tongue weight and I can only attribute that to the Off-Road package we have on this truck with the upgraded shocks & springs, plus it has the 20” wheel package.

RE: F150 and Reflection 150 series?

I know what you’re saying about “professionals”, but I must say the equalizing part is spot-on for both TV and TT being level, with the steering being the same with or without the TT connected, so the front end isn’t “light”. I’m sure the issue is more about the 32’ “sail” causing the buffeting, not to mention the uncomfortable porpoising on uneven roads due to the length with the lighter truck.

F150 and Reflection 150 series?

First let me say I am totally aware of the “concerns” of pulling a 5er with a 1/2 ton pickup ..... BUT I have a wonderful 2016 F150 Lariat and am tired of dealing with the stress of travel trailer sway on longer trips, even after trying 4 different WDHs professionally installed! Because my F150 MaxTow 4WD is paid for and us having just returned from a 2,000 mile Florida trip pulling our 32’ TT, I am seriously considering the GD Reflection 150-series 260RD with its low pin weight and short length to stay well within my F150’s payload capacity. My question is: has anyone else with a newer F150 made this same move from a TT to a small 5er and has it completely solved the sway issue with crosswinds and traffic? We’ve traveled with our combination for the last 16 months and had just upgraded the tires to “XL” (extra-load) rated to reduce sway/tail-waggle, but it doesn’t seem to have made any difference. We encountered 20-30mph crosswinds during this trip on Interstates and it was exhausting, reducing the enjoyment of the 12-day vacation. My wife & I are semi-retired and love to camp for a couple of weeks at a time and, even though we LOVE our 2019 32’ TT, I am done with the stress of the amount of sway with this combination (knowing an F250 would likely cure that, but trading isn’t an option, and I don’t believe the Hensley would eliminate it with the F150), so we are considering a light 5er like the Reflection 150 series, especially with it being only 6” taller than our current TT.

RE: new mattress needed, any reason to buy from camping world?

Another vote for the Zinus 8” “bed-in-a-bag”. We immediately replaced our factory short Queen with one from Amazon and loved it so much, we then ordered a 10” Zinus full Queen for our home! We are now in our 2nd TT with the same mattress, after telling them to keep the factory mattress, even though the mattress is now 2 years old. As mentioned elsewhere, if you get a bed-in-a-bag/box, follow the instructions completely to unpack, you’ll be glad you did.

RE: Need Help Deciding which feature for trailer

Another opinion; though it is just my wife & I in our 32’ TT, we absolutely love our outdoor kitchen and use it virtually every day we camp. It came with a mini-fridge, sink and grill (attached to bumper), which we can’t imagine having another RV without after this is the 1st with one of the 6 TT’s we’ve owned so far. Of course, since our TT has an Enormous amount of interior storage, and that our CharBroil Grill-2-Go grill stores in the outdoor kitchen for travel and connects to the TT LP, we’re not hurting for the extra storage the outdoor kitchen occupies. Regarding the 2nd entry door; it would be nice for us, but not necessary without kids needing access to the bathroom constantly.
