RE: It's time to winterize...

My cousin burned out half his garage using a space heater to warm it rather than keeping the car batteries on a trickle charge, hence my concern. You're right.. that GFI circuit would only cut power if the wiring overheated- I'll have to ask what they traced his back to, was years ago. You've done plenty of preparation, and agree that you're probably better prepared than some of us in colder climes. Kudos for keeping the toys in good shape, so they'll be ready to go when you are :-)

RE: It's time to winterize...

The unattended space heater doesn't sit well with me, though I'm sure you have it plugged into a GFI. If I was on shore power and outside, I would prefer to set the furnace at 50 and expend some propane instead. Everything else sounds great- I don't have a compressor so we just fill the lives with pink stuff, but then again, Da Moose won't be let loose until spring break (we've been winterized about 6 weeks already - 14 degrees here this morning brr!)

RE: Motorhome Fuel Economy

My minivan gets 18mpg with nothing in it, I'm ok with 7mpg carrying a week's worth of everything I might need. At the end of the day, I'm still paying less for annual fuel costs than most of the world.

RE: finding value for the RV

RVTrader- and nada if you want pre covid pricing. Or post one Craigslist for $5 and see what kind off call volume you get at the price. Not many= too high. Too many= too low. Doesn't mean you have to actually sell it to them.

RE: House Battery

Your existing battery should list the group number, or you might even see the brand and model. We've had good luck buying at batteries plus, and Interstate also stand behind their batteries.

RE: Class C - with ability to tow

Best to rent something and then tell us more about your preferences and needs.

RE: RVs over 10 years old are valueless

Not all campgrounds have the same rules, and for those who make them, maybe it's worth having a conversation explaining your loyalty with them. To date, at least.

RE: Payment method

Maybe get a prepaid visa then, or a few in 200-250 increments etc. You could also apply for a secured/ student credit card, where you deposit funds and then that's how much you have on the card. A debit card with a visa logo (from your bank, for your checking account) withdraws directly but still gives you flexibility.

RE: Minor alignment issue... but a long story

We like to post reviews at RVservicereviews.com and sounds like this is a great shop to have in the memory banks as well. Thanks for the happy tale.

RE: Winter Storage

We stored ours in the southwest 2 winters ago - and they got more snow than they had in 20 years. Then Covid hit and there was no traveling, so our 3 month plan became 6 months of storage. No tire covers, no seafoam, no wood under tires, just parked in a secure lot under a cover. The only adverse impact was to the house battery, but it was a couple years old already. For $150 we were back to 100% functional - a small price to pay for no worries. Sounds like you're far better prepared.

RE: Winterizing Issue

Did you bypass the hot water heater? I bypass first and then remove the anode rod to drain completely.

RE: Looking for new motorhomeā€¦

I think they'll be cramped in the bunks- we used to sleep 3 over the can. As they grew, 1 moved to the couch and now everyone has space. Your boys could do the same- sleeping bags in an over the cab queen. It also sounds like they can "rough it" if you bring a tent or 2 along for some character building out there in the boondocks. We're at 31' and if the armoire came out and with a couch/dinette combo, it could probably be 25'or maybe even less with a slide. If you're handy, you could have some family time and take some minor repairs by remodeling an older one in good structural shape. That's what we've been doing with our 2001 that came with 50k miles.

RE: Changing a tire yourself

It's certainly possible but when you have your house and all its amenities with you, what's the rush? We prefer to let them come out and handle it but carry equipment because they're often not adequately prepared. We've also become more proactive with replacing tires on time, and driving with their capabilities in mind.

We sprayed the rim with the bright silver paint and it's surprisingly satisfying.

RE: Best place in Wichita Kansas Area for E450 alignment

RVservicereviews.com has been a good resource. We had a similar issue in Chicago (if you can believe that) - ended up as a highly-recommended truck alignment shop and they did a great job. Want to drive over?

RE: Question about tires..smell? Temp?

Our 31' has a lot of extra weight on that rear axle regularly so we go overweight regularly so we need to keep them at the max 80 psi. Never noticed a smell but we watch the speed on hot pavement, sometimes even deliberately choosing to drive early/ late.

RE: simple laptop solution for RV travel

Agreed with above. If your budget is more than $400 I would look at a tablet or iPad for convenience based on the usage you described.
