RE: Vanity mirror latch

Mine broke too on my 2001 845. I ended up putting a magnetic latch on the inside of the cabinet and the magnet plate on the inside of the door. The latch is screwed to a piece of wood and the wood glued to the inside of the cabinet (see pic). Hasn't come open in 2 months of travel, with some rockin' and rollin' on dirt roads. :) height=800 width=600

RE: I met Ramblin Ralph today

Eric, thanks for the heads up, but I won't be there. Have fun and catch a lot of fish. :)

RE: I met Ramblin Ralph today

spacedoutbob: The odds for that to happen once are one-in-a-million. For it to happen twice at the same intersection are one-in-a-zillion!! I've told many friends about this over the years. Hope all is well with you.

RE: I met Ramblin Ralph today

Wow, what a surprise to find out I was subject of a post today!! Thanks Buzzcut1 for doing it! :) It's always fun to talk to other TCers. Unfortunately, you were just leaving as I was taking my not-so-regular daily walk, so our chat was too short. Hopefully, our paths will cross again. Safe travels to all,

RE: Camper (and Ham Radio) helped with a rescue....

Hooray for you and ham radio!! Had my license since I was 15 years old, which was decades ago. :)

RE: What did you do to your truck today?

Got on the road for Ramblin' 2022 (my 17th year)! First stop at an RV Park in Gilroy, CA. This weekend I'll start a one week campout with my 2 kids in the beautiful E Sierra. After that TBD, but to heck with gas prices!! Safe travels to all,

RE: Anyone Cancelling Truck Camper Trips Due to Fuel Prices?

I'm 80. I don't have time to wait for lower prices. I'm starting Ramblin' 2022 next week for 5 months! :)

RE: My campsite map now up to 740 sites

Glad to see some of you are already using it! I travel in the warm part of the year and don't like humidity, so that's why it's West U.S. biased. :)

RE: What did you do to your Camper Today?

timdan95: Nice! I've got a measly 225w, but it's good enough for me. Sure love the bluetooth in my Victron. :)

My campsite map now up to 740 sites

I just updated my map of everywhere I've camped in the last 16 years of 5-6 months/year of ramblin'. Very few commercial ones, as I'm usually in USFS/BLM/State CGs and boondocking spots. Point at a pinhead and you'll see the name of the CG. Click on a pinhead and you see a summary of the CG, including fee (when I was there). GPS coordinates are also shown. The map is here. Works best on a large screen, vs. a phone. I'll be hitting the road in early June for my 17th year of ramblin' about 1/2 of the year. Hopefully I'll add a few new sites to the map. Hope you can find some new sites from the map. Safe travels.

RE: What did you do to your Camper Today?

I travel solo, so having a Net connection at a campsite gives me something else to do. To increase the chance of having a cell Net connection in the boonies, I installed a weBoost cell booster system. Confirmed it does increase the strength via my phone "bar meter", but haven't had a chance to get a dBm reading yet. Photos are: 1) Booster antenna in the up position when at a campsite 2) Antenna at the down position when traveling or exiting a woody campsite 3) Inside electronics hookup. Kit came with longer cables than I need, so the excess is hidden behind the seat cushions. I only had one cig lighter output where I wanted to install the system, that I plugged a USB charger into. So, I installed a device with multiple 12v and USB outputs. Will be hitting the road in early June for several months, so the booster will get plenty of use. :) height=600 width=800 height=600 width=800 height=600 width=800

RE: How to manually light a Dometic RM2353?

If she is solo, have her jam a toothpick between the depressed Safety button and the panel while she goes outside. Been there, done that. :) Edit: Prior post might negate my comment.

RE: Temporary Cell Service

Try Visible, which uses Verizon towers. No contract. $40/mo but easy to get it down to $25/mo.

RE: Bedding in overhead beds in T/C

Just turned 80. Had my TC for 16 years and solo travel 5->6 mo/yr. Have always used a sleeping bag. Can't imagine trying to make a bed. :)

RE: Simplest battery monitor and shunt? Advice for non-expert

I installed one these a couple of years ago and am very happy with it. No shunt to wire. Only pass the negative lead through a coil. Mine was shipped from US, but now from China, so longer delivery. Also, no bluetooth, but only $40. Battery Monitor Edit: Forgot to mention that it's wireless between the monitor electronics and the display.

RE: Camping 3 months with single 100Ah Lithium

Thanks for the comments folks: Camper Jeff: 3 hours doesn't sound like very long with only a laptop plus other small draws and dual AGMs. I don't run my furnace at night. I just pile on the extra blankets, get up in the a.m. and turn on the furnace and get back in bed until the inside is warm. Although the mandatory middle of night bathroom visit is a bit nippy. :) NamMedEvac 70: I never turned on my DC-DC charger powered by the truck alternator. Used solar only. Thanks for saving some of my photos. If you ever want any "full resolution" ones, just let me know. Kayteg1 & pianotuna: I mentioned Lithium because that's what I have and is becoming very popular. One reason I switched from lead-acid is because I'm old and can't lift much anymore. )

Camping 3 months with single 100Ah Lithium

Before I started ramblin' this summer, I replaced my two lead acid batteries with a single 100 Ah lithium. I also added a second solar panel to go from 125w to 225w. I was on the road almost five months, and three of those were dry camping every night. Usually at the end of the day my battery was down to around 90%. The next day it was quickly up to 100%. On Labor Day weekend I camped in a shady spot for four days. At the end of that my battery was down to a little less than 70%. It took a couple of days to get back to 100. I don't have any high power devices on my camper. My furnace draws the most, at 4 to 5 amps. I only ran it for about 15 minutes in the morning, when needed. All my lights are LED. My fridge was running on propane the whole time. I installed a DC-DC converter before I left home, but never used it. FYI, my setup is a single AmpereTime 100Ah 12v LiFePo4 ($540 last Jan when bought and $400 now, on Amazon), 225w of solar panels, Victron MPPT 75/15 solar controller and battery temperature/voltage sensor, and an eBay purchased battery monitor that records amp hours. Turned out the battery doesn't have low temperature charge protection, but the Victron solar controller takes care of that. I'm very happy with my installation and doubt now that I'll ever need other than my solar charging. Now I don't have to remember to check battery water and strain my old body to lift a battery. :)
