RE: Private Arkansas campground

May I suggest you Google Mountain View, AR and you will find all the private campgrounds you can visit! The first one that came to mind is Jack's Fishing Resort on the bank of the White River. RV sites, cabins or motel rooms, boat rental, swimming pool, and one of the best restaurants in the state, JoJo's Fish House, serving fried catfish. It is close to town where you can shop, take a lawn chair down to the Courthouse Square and listen to music by groups all around the Square. We usually stayed at Sylamore Creek Campground, grands were not into fishing but I have been known to wet a hook in the Creek while the kids and Grandma played in the water. Also, the Ozark Folk Center is close and see all the craftsmen and women at work. If you need more info, just holler....

RE: Turn Your Regular Grill into a Smoker - Easy

I have been doing this for several years, on a gas and charcoal grill. Nice way to do ribs, chicken, Cornish hens, and even meat loaf. I don't really recommend doing large pieces of meat like a whole brisket, large pork butt, or 20 lb. Turkey unless you use a gas grill where you can regulate the temp. Using a charcoal grill with large pieces of meat, and trying to regulate a low temp takes too much babysitting the grill, JMHO.....

Thanks to the VA Healthcare....

Last week went to the VA ENT clinic to get my ears looked at. They put hearing aids on me several years ago, but hearing became almost non-existent for the last few months. To make a long story short, I needed a good cleaning. Nurse started washing and digging, sucking and pulling and after about an hour, I was hearing better than I have in ten years. I can actually hear without the aids!!! Ringing in my ears has decreased almost half, she said it would never go away. Never had a good cleaning like I got, she said they were really packed up. I told her after 72 years I can only imagine. Now have an appointment every 6 months for cleaning.....

RE: What a great day!!!!

Well, I sit here crying in my coffee cup.... Both teams lost, pitching let me down in baseball and the basketball team was still tired from the hard fought game on Thursday against Gonzaga. I will be alright, basketball team went farther than most of the others, and baseball is just kicking off conference play. Look out Omaha, here we come...again!!!

What a great day!!!!

The Fourth ranked Arkansas Razorback Baseball team plays Missouri today at 2:00 PM on the SEC channel then the fourteenth ranked Basketball team plays around 7:20 PM on the TBS channel against Duke. Again, no one gives them a dog's chance to beat Duke, just like no respect against Gonzaga.....

RE: Today in History

My father was U.S. Army from 1941-1945, spent his entire enlistment at Dutch Harbor, AK. I was U.S. Army 1969-1970, Vietnam. Most of my tour was with 199th Inf. Bde. and 1st Aviation Bde. during 1970.

Today in History

Learned today that on this date in History that the U.S. Flag was raised in the battle of Iwo Jima, February 23. The battle raged on for many more weeks before the island was secured. The greatest generation....

Handy kitchen tip #93

Instead of using those cheap plastic or flimsy metal chip bag clips, we use the binder clips found in the office supply aisle at Walmart. We buy the medium size, but once in a while a large one. They last forever and don't break or fall apart. Just an idea....

RE: Igooannas

Speaking of "igooannas", in my trips to Belize, I visited a small village on the banks of the Belize River called Flowers Bank. I talked to many of the teenagers there and conversation always led to what they did to pass time, no TVs or video games for them. They liked to go to the river, find a tree with a branch that hung out over the river. They would climb out on the branch and wait for iguanas to swim by, jump down on it, and wrestle to the bank, cut its throat and take home for supper. One of the older teens had the record for the longest, about 4 and a half feet from snout to end of the tail. I never saw it, but with all the bragging going on, I guess it may have been about 3 feet, I did see a couple that were about that long. All of them seemed to like iguana meat, they said it tasted like chicken....

RE: pocket knife

Carried one as long as I can remember. I am 72 (almost), and still do. I currently carry my Father's old small two blade folding knife, not sure what brand it is. It has to be 40 years old. I usually use it everyday for something. My favorite was/is a single blade small Gerber Baby Lock, about 4" long unfolded. Side note, the old Army pocketknife was made by Camillus (sp.), had one also and gave it to my grandson last year. I don't remember a number designation for it, also have a couple of P-38s, NOT designed to carry in pants pockets.....

RE: College Football Is Just Around The Corner, Can't Wait!

Horsedoc, I have to agree, Georgia at this time is the better team. The SEC right now is in turmoil, Fla., LSU, and maybe others looking at coaching changes and a lot of schools with first year Head Coaches, it may take 2 or more years to get going again.... All I know is my Razorbacks are on a roll, right now. First time in history that they brought home THREE rivalry trophies in one year. The BOOT from LSU, the SEC Classic from Texas A&M, and the Battleline from Missouri. They are bowl bound and the scuttlebutt is a major Florida Bowl on New Years day. We will see how it shakes out after the games today. By the way, I am pulling for Georgia to win all this year.... P.S. Prayers for bagman and his family......

RE: College Football Is Just Around The Corner, Can't Wait!

Well, it sounds like college football is getting all shook up in the near future!!! Texas and Oklahoma want to join the big boys of the SEC. I foresee a lot of changes in most of the conferences if all survive the shakeup. Is your school or conference talking changes?

RE: College Football Is Just Around The Corner, Can't Wait!

Steveh27, sounds like a good reason to stay home and watch Tv... I am 71, bad knees, had quad bypass several years ago, arthritic joint plus my tired bony butt does not like sitting in those hard seats in stadiums. Used to love going to all types of sporting events, but finally gave it up. Give me a big screen TV, big plate of hot wings and Diet Coke and I am satisfied. Its he!! getting old.....

RE: College Football Is Just Around The Corner, Can't Wait!

Talking about College football, I am not sure I like all of this "transfer portal" stuff going on in college sports. Players really don't have to make a commitment to a school anymore. Don't like your playing time, pick up and go somewhere else. I have to check the roster once a month just to try to keep up with changes on a team....

RE: College Football Is Just Around The Corner, Can't Wait!

Yes bagman, you have been missed lately! I thought you would have been giving us at least weekly thought during the CWS. Looks like the SEC continues to romp over the rest of the free world in dominating College sports... Your thoughts are graciously welcomed.....
