RE: Theodore Roosevelt National Park

If you are coming from Glacier, using US 2 and seeing the north unit first makes a lot of sense. It is one of the least visited parks in the entire system. There was only one campground and when we were there, only the camp host was with us. Also, they were having an anniversary of some sort and one of the rangers brought a sheet cake in to share in the visitors center. Really laid back outfit and a great place to experience the park. We enjoyed both sections but preferred the north unit.

RE: Yosemite info needed

Sonora Pass is a no no. Also subject to snow closures and that 23% grade is no fun at.

RE: Newsom signs bill to ban the sell of gas powered generators

OK folks, let's all take a deep breath. No where in the text of the actual bill does it mention or allude to generators. It does specifically address small, gas powered equipment like lawn mowers and leaf blowers. Small is the operative word.

RE: Where to get steering alignment done for a class A?

Another source might be Brazel's in Centralia, Wa. Next down the road is Henderson's. If you make it to Southern California, Redlands Tire. All can do RV's, both alignments and repairs as needed.

RE: Redwoods...Ave of the Giants and Newton Drury Pkwy

Just returned from Ancient Redwoods. Conveniently located near the Founders Grove and the road to HoneyDew past the Rockefeller forest (best giant redwoods in my opinion). Good people and a quiet location.

RE: Oregon to charge 25% more for out of state RV campers

Oregon State Parks are among the best in the country. Like NamMedevac70, I also enjoy the benefit of the disabled veterans camping program, even though I am not an Oregon resident. 10 days a month free camping is hard to beat. Those with service connected disabilities should look into this. Thank you Oregon.

Notice that the OP is from Texas. You can confirm with their DMV how it will be treated.

RE: Just beginning to do homework

I would second the comment about the amount of time to get to Alaska from the east coast. I think you will find that you will spend more time in Canada than you plan. From the west coast, I generally take a solid 3 weeks traveling through BC and the Yukon on the way up and about the same returning if I include the Cassiar and Alberta.

RE: Setting up a TOAD

If the hourly labor charge in NJ is roughly $150 an hour, I can't imagine it would take 13 hours to complete the project.

RE: Bad lands area

Wall Drug is meaningful to a lot of folks from South Dakota who relocated during WW2. 70 years ago, as a youngster, we had to stop at Wall to get the free ice water, on our way to the Grandparents farm. In my see America Second tour in 1969, I had to stop for the free ice water and free cake donut for Veterans or Active Duty. Wall Drug is accurately portrayed as a giant tourist trap hasn't always been. My last stop there it took more time to find a parking space for the RV and toad than it did to see the town.

My experience is similar to Ford Truck Guy. In my last RV, the folks at Batteries Plus Bulbs not only had the best price on the four 6 volt GC's but removed the old ones and installed the new ones for me. Only good things to say about them.

RE: Rexhall aerbus vs Fleetwood pace arrow

I've owned both also. I liked the floor plan better in Fleetwood but the fit and finish of the Rexhall. I was at the factory for the Rexhall and they made extra modifications for me for no extra cost. Too bad they no longer exist.

RE: Hemet, CA to Klamath River RV Park, CA

Ca Traveler has good information. I'm in Ventura so I do not use I5 or 99 to get to the Klamath River. I also take 3 days because I love to stop in the Avenue of the Giants for my second stop. I think I would opt for I5 to around Los Banos/Santa Nella for a stop. Then continue to Williams and take 20 across to 101. I get fuel in or around Ukiah and stop at Ancient Redwoods RV park near the Founders Grove. That makes for an easy 3rd day to the Klamath River.

RE: CA 1 from Monterey (Marina) to Half Moon Bay

Not to throw cold water on the north bound drive from San Simeon to Carmel but...the vista points are uniformly on the south bound side and with a toad it is no fun finding a break in traffic and parking. Also, there are several slow to 15 downhill curves followed by an uphill grade. That said, it is doable with patience and try to pull over and let backed up traffic pass. Many sports car drivers consider this a road to test their skill.

RE: Another Redwoods Question

They resurfaced the road all the way past the turn off to Albee Creek campground so the road to Honeydew is not nearly as rough as it used to be. If you have a dog with you, remember to keep it away from the Eel River due to the summer algae bloom. Lady Bird Johnson grove is a long ways away from Ancient Redwoods, much closer to Orick and Prarie Creek Redwoods and the Newton Drury scenic biway..considered by many as the most scenic redwoods anywhere. Both locations have wonderful walks and hikes.

RE: Along I-84 in Southern Idaho

Along I84, near Jerome, you can view people from all over the world who base jump from the bridge across the Snake river..about 400 feet high. This is also on the road leading to Craters of the Moon National Monument, an interesting volcanic area.

RE: Rving in New Zealand

It has been several years since we did this trip. We rented a 19ft right hand drive class B. I had lived in Japan so I was used to driving in the left lane. My only problem was turning on the windshield wipers when I meant to use the turn signals. All kidding aside, it is a wonderful place to RV..aka caravan. We started on the south island and worked our way north. Taking your time is important. The people are friendly and helpful and the fishing is out of this world.

RE: Boondocking and working with no electricity

A little off topic but having a battery pack to charge your cell phones and laptops is inexpensive insurance for essentials go dead.

RE: Trip recommendation

Harris Beach SP, Brookings, is wonderful and very popular which makes getting reservations difficult. The walk down the hill to the beach is fine, the walk back up the hill is a challenge for those of us more experienced in celebrating birthdays. Beachside State Park, once it reopens, is as close as you can get to the sand. It is also closer to Newberg and makes for a nice drive.
