RE: Do you always have to pay inside at Truck stops?

There are semi drivers that are worse than RVers at the truck stops....ask me how I know.....one that comes to mind: 2 truckers were BSing with their cells phones, when I asked them if the one blocking me could move up, he just looked at me, and continued BSing with the driver next to him....I had to back up and change lanes.

RE: Hope this is OK for this forum - DEF question

X100 Lantley....the lack of a gauge or even a dipstick is the dumbest, cheapest thing......I think on the newer trucks, they now have a gauge.
On the topic of DEF mpg.....I for the most part, only use my truck to haul my 5ver, I keep detailed records on a spreadsheet and I get about 450 MPG of DEF.
Lastly, I asked my salesman where the DEF fill was....and I did tell him that was a stupid place to put it....he said how some folks not paying attention were adding DEF straight into the fuel tank (which I did read how that was happening early on).

RE: Hope this is OK for this forum - DEF question

My GMC has the DEF intake under the hood.....I don't even mess with the DEF Jug's spout. I take it off, use a flexable funnel (has a long tube). Wife holds funnel and I pour. Works great and she doesn't mind helping out. I do have to stand on a small stool, which we carry in the truck.....we also need to use the stool to reach lock/unlock our hitch.

I totally agree with SUMRX4's statement about never saying I wish I had more power with my Diesel.

RE: New Tires Lighten my Wallet

On my previous 5ver, my Michelin XPS Ribs lasted 9 years. I kept them covered and applied 303 protectant quite often.
My current 5ver came with Westlake "G" rated tires, which get good reviews. The lower rated Westlakes not so much. I know alot of CC owners that have a lot of miles on their Westlakes and have no complaints.
If the bad news continues on the Vietnam made Sailuns I will probably stick with Westlake "G"s.....mine are about 3.5 yrs old.

RE: 5er accidents

You're correct Ken - MOST dealers & salesmen live for the dollar and that next sale, disregarding safety standards.

RE: 5er accidents

x2 on the disk brakes.....every now & then, I use the truck's manual trailer hand control (not truck's brake pedal) that activates the trailer's brakes....just using them will stop the truck....yes, they work so much better!

RE: New to RVs.....A Few Newbie Questions

From one Twidget to another.....Thanks for taking the reins...I spent time at Pier 12/13.....LOL.I too am retired from the DON, last 15 years as a flight test engineer, last 3 yrs on TRITON.
Hey, consider Forest River's Cedar Creek line....Coastal RV is near by up in the Newport News area. Not sure how many units they have on the lot. We are on our 2nd CC....and Yes, a full bed, diesel dually is the way to go, if you want ease of driving and stability. Your rig won't be pushing the truck around....ask me how I know.
Richmond Raceway usually has a RV show, not sure if they still do. AS mentioned Hershey is really great.
Good Luck on the search, its the most fun...and as was stated, whatever you buy, will have issues.

RE: New Reflection 150 260RD - Running fridge while on the road

WE also run ours on propane for longer trips, and yes, we have stopped to verify the propane is off before entering certain tunnels...sometimes they actually check, and sometimes they take my word for it.

RE: New 5er coming

I agree with TXiceman's statement about making sure everything is 100% OK BEFORE sealing the deal....especially since you live so far away.
OBTW - hauling with a 5ver is much easier than hauling a TT - I've done both....be more aware of low hanging objects.
