RE: Strong winds and water heater problems?

Check the burner tube for debris. Check the orifice for debris. Clean with alcohol. Thanks! After the wind and rain calmed down, and after the tank was flushed of hot water, and completely cooled down, I tried turning it on again. So far, so good. Heated up with no error code or over pressure venting. Hopefully just too much wind pressure blowing into the flue. Plus wet inside from rain blowing in. I'll do the burner tube cleaning when I get home. I'll update after tonight and shower in the morning.

RE: Strong winds and water heater problems?

My guess would be no water in tank! Make sure winter by-pass is not set to by-pass Plenty of water in fresh tank. We have been doing dishes and showering for three days. Water heater has been working fine till this morning. Timing started right after our next door neighbor left. He had been our wind block and was protecting us from the strongest gusts.

Strong winds and water heater problems?

Could strong winds cause a overheating problem with the propane water heater? Winds blowing at 20 to 30 mph directly into heater vent this morning. Water got hot enough to vent out pressure valve. Figured out it was venting because I could hear pump cycling on and off. Shut heater off. Turned back on. Switch lamp showed over temp lockout. Water temp over 150 degrees a half hour later, and even after running some cold water through with heat off. Suggestions? I'll check heater burner tube and clean when I get home.

RE: Slide-out awning

Do a google search for "rv slide topper anti billowing kit". It's the arm that sticks out on the front of the topper that prevents the wind from blowing the topper open while driving. They are available in black or white. Here's an example of what I think you're looking for: Watch this video (forward to 1:34) for a description of what it is and how it works:

RE: What is your secret trick for cleaning your front cap?

Thanks for the replies. MButts - I looked at that ladder last year and it was unavailable then, plus some of the reviews were poor. Still unavailable now. bobndot - I like the front loader idea. But they might be out of my price range! I also like the fabricate idea that you can drive onto to improve stability. I helped a neighbor today with gutter install. He had a Telescoping Plank. That might be what I try next with two ladders.

What is your secret trick for cleaning your front cap?

What is your secret trick for cleaning/waxing your front cap? It's always difficult to reach the front cap when washing a Class C RV. I've tried the ladder next to the front wheels, but it's a long reach to get to the center of the front cap. What do you do to make access easier?

RE: Two questions: fridge OOPS! and battery boost relay

Fridge oops - Can you smell ammonia, or see yellow stains anywhere inside fridge or in the compartment on rear of fridge? While the smell of ammonia is oftentimes enough to alert your senses that something is off, there is something else you can look out for: yellow staining near the refrigerator. If you notice yellow coming from your refrigerator and yellow stains begin to appear in and around your fridge, it is pointing to a likely ammonia leak. If you have a leak, you will need a replacement.

RE: Northwest coast of U.S.

One important note if you take the ferry to Port Townsend. Hwy 101 on the Olympic peninsula can be very confusing because it does almost a complete loop. Hwy 101 goes completely around the West side, the North side and the East side of the peninsula. So, when someone tells you to go South on Hwy 101, you have to ask; Southbound on the West side (Pacific Ocean side) or Southbound on the East side (Puget Sound side). If you want to go Southbound on the West side (Pacific Ocean side) from Port Townsend, you need to go Northbound first, then Westbound, and then you can go Southbound.

RE: Route into Pinnacles National Park?

This will be of no help to you, but maybe to others . . . Hit Pinnacles last year from Yanks RV to the west. Road was so narrow, I had to drive on the shoulder in an F350 SRW when larger rigs were coming from the opposite direction. I couldn't agree more. The West side entrance road is even more narrow than the East side. I have to assume that there are many situations where people have to back up to a wider spot in the road to get past each other. Glad I never tried to drive an RV up that side.

RE: Route into Pinnacles National Park?

Hwy 25 is pretty easy from Gilroy to about Tres Pinos. After that it gets narrower and windier. There are a couple of hills, but nothing I would consider a long difficult grade. We do it every spring in a 30-foot Class C. Sometimes towing, sometimes just the RV. It is a road that you will need to just slow down and take your time. Expect to do some pothole dodging and there will be times where you will intentionally cross the double yellow just to make the corners easier. Once you get to 146, it's even a little slower (and the speed limit reflects it), and you will dodge a few more potholes. But it is well worth the trip! We will be there in May 2023. Reach out if you want campsite suggestions.

RE: Battery Charging on Truck Camper

Keep in mind that the wire gauge in the trailer connector is not a large enough gauge to do high amperage charging.

RE: Why did my water pump stop pumping?

Is there a valve in the wrong position (or not quite all the way in the correct position)? Drain valve? Winterizing valve? Bypass valve? Water heater valves?

RE: Capital Reef NP Roads

Hello, Besides the Hwy 24, are the other roads paved like scenic drive or capital gorge road? Hwy 24 is a main 2 lane hwy. Scenic Drive is paved, narrow and has ford crossings. Capital Gorge road is gravel.

RE: The dreaded Tire explosion

O Are there replacements for the wheel well (preferably something more substantial than the cheap plastic that was there)? Or is fabricating something myself the best option? First off, have you checked with your insurance? This might be covered. And I have more first-hand experience than I would like to admit. Insurance did cover the damage. And what they did was fabricate a new wheel well from sheet metal. And when I had another rear blowout just last week, it held up far, far better than the old plastic ever did.

RE: Removal of gas strut

I can’t figure out how to remove a strut that holds open one of the cargo doors. The legend on the strut looks like the cover should pop up and it should release. But I can’t get the cover to pop up. Any suggestions? 2002 Winnebago sightseer. Take a closer look at the logo on your photo. My struts are something similar. I think "maybe" the cap is some sort of twist lock. Or does it lift up to release? Do you have a better photo so we can read the info on that cap?

RE: Cleaning the awning

Directly from Dometic A&E manual: Do not use strong chemicals or abrasives to clean the awning parts as their protective surfaces can be damaged. Do not use abrasive or corrosive cleaners, mildew removers, or hard bristle brushes on the awning fabric. • Remove any cleaning solution completely from the awning fabric. Bleach will degrade the awning fabric if not completely rinsed off 1. Mix a cleaning solution of 1/4 cup dish soap and 1/4 cup bleach with five gallons of fresh water. 2. Open the awning. 3. Apply the cleaning solution. 4. Close the awning for five minutes, then open the awning 5. Using clean water, completely remove the cleaning solution from the top and bottom of the awning fabric. Rinse thoroughly. 6. Repeat the process as necessary. 7. Verify that the awning fabric is dry before closing the awning.

RE: How to Find Parks?

Sorry to start this topic going again, but I just found out some new information. I have been a long-time user of Ultimate Campgrounds, and it has been mentioned several times in this thread. I just discovered that Ultimate Campgrounds has "closed". It is no longer available on the web, and the app for mobile devices is no longer being sold (but if you paid for it, it will still work. just no updates). I'm sad to see it go. Now I will need to find something else to find camping locations! If anyone has more suggestions that haven't already been mentioned, speak up!
