RE: Exploded Battery!

A perfectly smart charger will keep trying to fully charge a battery with a bad cell. Eventually, heat builds up and boils what remaining water is in the battery.

RE: Old fashioned southern favorites

Unlike mom, most of my recipes are on my computer. My kids will at least be able to print some of their favorites when I'm gone.

RE: Gray tank cleaner

No matter how hard we try, bits of food end up in the gray tank. That creates a smell, no dish soap will fix that.

RE: Battery over charging

I'm going to say, yes, my buddy told me that he just installed something for this on his boat but I don't know the technical name for the device.

RE: charge house battery from TV

Your 7 pin plug should have a full time hot wire on both the TV and trailer. The battery kill switch on the trailer must be in the on position. Make sure the truck has a solenoid that prevents the trailer from draining the truck battery when not running.

Water Heater Bypass Valve If anyone is interested, this is a video of the valve that I found on YouTube that describes the operation of the valve pretty well.

RE: Asking for a friend

If there is any possible to install something wrong / opposite to the directions on an RV, most of us will install it the wrong way the first time. The water heater bypass valve(s) is normally on the back of the water heater. Most of the higher end fifth wheels and motorhomes I see have a remote handle to turn the water heater bypass valves on the outside near the city water input. I'm sure the actual valve is located close to the water heater, but the cable pull handle is on the outside as described by the OP Actually, the valve is on the other side of the handle. It cuts off flow to the dedicated cold water line that runs to the water heater and redirects to a red, hot water line that ties into the rest of the hot water system.

RE: comfortable ride in an one ton dually??

My dually rides like a chuck wagon empty but like a Cadillac when it has a load. If you guys don't like the loaded ride it's time to wave the white flag.

RE: Asking for a friend

It's a B&B Moulders bypass valve on the outside of the trailer where the fresh water connections are. We have diagnosed that the wrong side of the valve is open when in bypass. I'm wondering if it is as simple as the handle orientation? Does anyone know if this valve will rotate 360 degrees? He installed this new this past Spring and may have put the handle on in the wrong orientation?

Asking for a friend

He is trying to winterize his 5th wheel. Antifreeze flows through the cold water side but not the hot water side. System is set to bypass and winterize. He tried blowing air through it and no air passing either. If winterize mode is switched back to RV mode, air passes through the system.

RE: carpet dyeing

My experience with trying to dye anything is the bleeding long after the job is done. First spill or when it gets wet will be a test.

RE: Stripping down a rotten camper

Sawzall around the top to take the roof off. Then cut down the corners of the walls top to bottom. The walls should just fold down.

RE: Battery Disconnect

The propane storage compartment is heavily vented at the bottom and the door will be wide open. It would likely have to be a full on geyser of propane to be an issue, which you would surely see or smell. However, I don't see how opening the propane door is significantly easier than opening the front storage door.

Light lenses

My 5th wheel is missing some of the light lenses and others were found to be cracked. I assume that this is from sides flexing? Anyone else experience this?

RE: Cover or not to cover

For those that build, what did you figure the break even point of building versus paying for covered storage was? After getting some bids on a RV port style cover with 1/3 sides, it was a 9 year break even.

RE: On the road breakdown stories..

Some buddies and I did a day trip to the lake to do some fishing and on our way home we followed a travel trailer that was driving erratically. Several miles down the highway the trailer blew a tire and the driver never knew it. It took us a bit to catch up to him but finally waved him over. That trailer was all over the road. I don't know if that lead to the tire blowing or the bad tire led to the trailer wondering all over the place.

RE: Installing a second battery

In my 5th wheel, I've got 2 batteries. I put the negative cable from the 5er on the negative post of battery 1 and the positive cable on the positive post of battery 2. The + to + and - to - from each battery is tied together. It works, someone can tell me if I'm screwing anything up.

RE: X-chocks and 6 point levelers

36' total length unit and it has never wobbled with the 6 point leveling system. I put a short 4 x 4 on both sides of 2 tires.

RE: Root Beer

Growing up, Mug was always my favorite and A&W not so much. As an adult, Henry Weinhardt's by far the best.

RE: Winterizing Travel Trailer

Sorry folks..but the only way to make sure the pump in our 5'er is winterized is to put some antifreeze into the FW tank and suck it thru the pump. Pump has no winterizing kit attached to it and is not accessible to put one on it. So I run it for 10 or 15 seconds to make sure all water is out of it and then add just enough antifreeze to the tank so the pump will pick it up, then drain the remaining out. Also there's no gravity hole to fill FW tank so I have to pump it in with another pump. We have a lever to switch from tank fill or city water usage. Been doing this now for the 7 years we've had it. Come spring I sanitize the tank & system good with bleach and have had no antifreeze foam or after taste. MiloMilo, why do you think that the pump isn't getting winterized by sucking the antifreeze out of the jug?
