RE: 36" Hitch Extension for 2" Receiver - Are they Made?

If your trailer tongue is too short, tucking the hitch under the camper is a bad idea. I switched from the 42" truss to the 48" truss. The 42" was perfect, the hitch ball popped out just behind the camper "bumper". Not so perfect with the enclosed trailer hooked up and you tried to make a tight turn.

RE: Camper looks like its not level

I did that to my truck and camper in sig, but I planed the end of it to taper it down. I should probably plane it a little more. The board is 4' wide and 2' deep/long and it helped level the camper quite a bit. I placed it between the rubber mat and the bed. I too forget how to post pics here, but there is a sticky thread somewhere with a way to do it.

RE: Recommendations for replacing my Michelin LTX M&S tires

I put Michelin Defender LTX on the wife's Envoy and they flat out sucked. We got about 30k from them and they dried, cracked, split, and flat wore out. I heard they used to be good, but my experience was not that. The Mexican Goodyears that replaced them ride no worse.

RE: Cooper AT3 XLT

I have the Load Range E AT3 Coopers on both trucks. I felt they were really good in the snow on my 1500. My dually being a dually, I try to keep it out of the snow. All were made in the US of A and all I heard about them before purchase is what you're hearing in here.

RE: The only real SRW “One Ton” that isn’t really a 3/4 ton

Very cool truck and bit of knowledge! Thanks for sharing! I knew about the old camper specials. GM may have made one as well, with a 9’ bed and longer wheelbase? 67-72 style? But never heard of the super camper special. they Chevy Longhorn. That bed extension has got to be more than a mere 6". . .

RE: CB Antennas?

The shorter the antenna, the more lousy it the reception/transmission becomes. You have to do what you have to do, but that's a lousy idea, the shorter antenna. You need to get at least 1/4 to 1/2 wavelength, and decent coax and connectors. Most CB coax is junk and the connectors are too. Best wishes to you. A fender mount can't handle a 5 footer?

RE: CB Antennas?

I am liking the fender mount idea. This site has a bunch, but not seeing one that specifies my year. I'm sure a number of them would work fine. I feel if I could find someone locally with a selection that that would be the best solution.

RE: They get bigger and bigger.

I think it’s more like the answer to the question that nobody asked… 3 tons No, to me it was too general of a statement to say if it doesn't come off go with a C.

RE: They get bigger and bigger.

Very nice but since you cannot remove TC from truck might as well go with a class C. A Class C doesn't have 4 low.

RE: CB Antennas?

Be that as it may, I don't feel like adding another step to mounting the camper by putting one on it. I do use this truck for more than just the camper, so that's not the only scenario where the CB would come in. Brad how was it getting used to that fire stick in your face all the time?

CB Antennas?

What CB antennas have you guys had good luck with that are short enough to play nice under a truck camper? I'm curious to see the mounting as well. Obviously a 3 foot fiberglass whip won't fit.

RE: They get bigger and bigger.

I like how it's a triple slide you can sleep in with the slides in. . . but can you grab a beer from the fridge and take a dump in the bathroom with those slides in?

RE: Adding another room to your camper...

"Starting with a cab and chassis" I don't get that statement. What does that have to do with moving the load back? "nice try though" ? All I said was the COG was moved back of the rear axle. Yeah I guess you guys are right no issue with this set-up. Cab and chassis puts the axle farther back, thus negating your concern of the COG being moved backward. Check out how much real estate is in front of that axle.

RE: Adding another room to your camper...

Nothing like moving the COG back 3'. Probably a little lite on the steering aspect. My rig looks almost the same except I have a crew cab in place of the add-a-room. To each his own. They're starting with a cab and chassis, so not the end of the world there.

RE: Truck camper title?

I believe it's state dependent. I had my bill of sale sent to my dad in MI, which is my military home of record, and MI doesn't title truck campers. You'll need to verify AZ's position on this.

RE: Lance 1131 wiring diagram

Ahh, I also would like to add an inverter, but I was thinking I'd splice it in with an interconnect or whatever it's called, the thing that chooses the source of input power. Like how if the onboard generator is running, the camper will pull from there instead of shore power. I recently bought an RV type charger for my cargo trailer and it claims to install at the fuse area, so I'd check there first. Not sure where that power switch is though.

RE: Lance 1131 wiring diagram

I'm curious to see what folks post here, but also curious why you need a schematic to change batteries? Typically schematics don't list component locations if you're looking for a junction box or something to tie off of. I plan to add a couple batteries in the back of my truck and attach with something like an Anderson Powerpole connector. I figure I'll probably end up running my own wire for that.

RE: Truck Bed Weight

The steel bed on my dually can't be more than 500#. I imagine your aluminum unit is a bit lighter? I was shocked at how not heavy it was.

RE: Opinions on a small block Chevy

I can see where they cut the core support, that's an easy kill especially with the clip off. But the frame rail itself runs under the core support. Seeing how a chopped up stock core support is still in place, it seems to me enough frame is still there to slap a clip back on. Or is the meat to hang bumper mounts off of gone?
