RE: San Diego RV Repair

I lived in Chula Vista (just south of San Diego) for 30 years. South Coast RV Service did good work on all of my miscellaneous RV repairs over those years. Their web page says they have mobile repair service. Give them a call. The worst they can do is say no. 619-476-7195 Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00AM-5:00PM

RE: 4x4 Class C ?

Have you looked at Phoenix Cruiser? Some of these floorplans might fit your specifications. All of the Phoenix RV's seem to have a 4x4 option. https://www.phoenixusarv.com/learn-more-about-the-phoenix--cruiser#floorplans-row

RE: Starting my research

After 20 years with car and small trailer, then a few years with car and tent, I have happily gone solo in a small (fits in one parking space) class C for over 30 years. Plenty of space for one person and the bathroom is right there. Questions to ask yourself before buying a B or small C: If the toilet is the more commonly offered cassette type we are seeing now, can you handle this? My aging back is quite happy with a black tank that requires moving only a lightweight hose to dump it. Pulling a full cassette out of a camper is not possible for me. Even if you can handle this weight now, how about a few years from now? Where are you going to keep this vehicle when not using it? Are you allowed to have it at your main residence? Storage lots are expensive. Plus, the car/RV shuttle to/from such lots can be a major pain for a solo person. Maybe try out your vehicle of choice by renting before committing to buying one. Happy travels!

RE: Consider trip interruption coverage???

For over 30 years I have been traveling solo, no pets, and a couple of times have been sick enough to need to stay in place for a couple of days until I recovered enough to continue the trip. Once I was badly injured in a fall while camping with a group of friends in another state; they drove me to the hospital and drove both me and my RV the 500 miles to home. However, I really had not thought about insurance for trip interruption until I read your post. Thanks for the heads up.

RE: Alternators - what are your thoughts?

My 2006 Tiger CX on a nearly stock Chevy 2500HD 4x4 chassis uses its one heavy-duty alternator (from the snow plow package) to run the engine and other chassis stuff and to charge the coach batteries and to charge whatever else I plug in while the engine is running. It has done a fantastic job at this since the day I bought it new. A couple of years ago, at about 90K miles, I replaced this alternator and the serpentine belt as preventive maintenance. There was nothing wrong with either, but 90K miles... I kept the old belt and alternator as spare parts just in case of disaster somewhere in the backwoods country I love to explore. My Tiger has neither generator nor solar. Don't compare it to whatever Tiger you see next, because almost no two Tigers are alike.

RE: Umbilical cord markers/reminders

I never use any hookups except the occasional electricity. In the cubby with the cord, I keep an old yellow plastic margarine cup. That cup goes onto the driver's seat when I plug in to the pedestal and gets put away when I unplug. Free, lightweight, and foolproof.

RE: List some RV movies

"Rolling Family" ("Familia Rodante") The comedy-drama tells the story of Emilia (Graciana Chironi) an 84-year-old grandmother who lives in the Buenos Aires suburbs and receives a phone call inviting her to be the matron of honour at her niece's wedding in Misiones, the village of her birth. The Province of Misiones, where the village is located, is over 1000 kilometres away, on the Brazilian border in the farthest north-east part of Argentina. Nevertheless, the large family decides to embark on a weekend long trip to take their grandmother to the wedding in a beat-up motor-home. (Note: about the same size as my 20 ft Class C) While the members have feuds, intrigues and love affairs on the journey, they, mostly, have to accept each other's quirks and faults, and give each other a lot of space along the way as they encounter a few problems on their long road-trip. The film ends with Emilia in an introspective moment. She drinks her mate (a regional drink) and appears to contemplate her family and life. RE: Cerro Gordo?

Cerro Gordo has a website. Look under "What to Expect" for answers to most of your questions. https://cerrogordomines.com/ There was a fire in 2020. The website doesn't mention it, so info there may be out of date. https://sierrawave.net/fire-in-cerro-gordo-ghost-town/

RE: Running generator all night - Cpap

I remember somewhere in the dim past seeing something exempting necessary medical devices from the generator time rules. Can't find this info right now. I'm not intending to whine here, but just display the situation of a medical device user. I've been a CPAP user since 2013. Without the CPAP, I can get almost no sleep. My RV does not have a generator or solar. (Yes, it could have those, but I had it without them long before I got the CPAP.) I have spent quite a bit to be able to run the CPAP in the RV. My insurer pays the full cost of CPAP equipment for home, but would not pay for the 12V cord made by the CPAP manufacturer or for the small lithium power packs which I sometimes use when running low on 12V coach battery power. Their latest trick was to issue me a new CPAP machine for home, which requires more power than my current RV system or portable packs can reasonably supply. My old CPAP still works, so I use it in the RV but now have to pay out of pocket for any supplies or repairs for it. Does your neighbor have the right to run his generator all night for CPAP? Possibly, maybe even probably. I'm not sure if this issue might come under rules on access for persons with disabilities. A CPAP is a necessary medical device. It's not like he was running the generator to play computer games and watch movies. That said, I think that we medical device users need to do our best to be considerate neighbors in camp. Night noise is not considerate. Will campgrounds come up with quiet and not so quiet area divisions? Or electrical hookups for medical device users? Time will tell.

RE: Is There a 24’ Version of These RVs available?

Wow! Thank you for the info on the tiger and especially the links. I had thought they seemed overpriced until I looked at the options list. They really aren’t adding much to the cost and seem like a fair company. You can order the standard list of features or add some or (at least I did in 2006; different owners now) delete some. I deleted microwave, air conditioning, generator, and TV. Spent my money instead on 4WD, 8.1L engine, and Allison transmission, all of which were options at the time. No regrets on any of these choices. However, newbies beware. I had owned a similar 4WD RV for 15 years before buying the Tiger, so I knew what I used and what was a waste of space for me. Your needs/wishes will undoubtedly differ from mine.
