RE: Looks like a nice TT

Never owned one but did own another Keystone brand TT. Springdale is a basic stick and tin trailer, the brand is at the bottom of the Keystone barrel. That's if one believes they have a top of the barrel line. Keystone support after the sale is almost non existent if one is worried about such things. Anyone who pays even close to the number published by Keystone for that POS has rocks in their head. You never owned one so...

RE: RV wind deflectors do they work we will see

Let us know how that air deflector works. I'm guessing it will do little to nothing. If it slopes at a 45° angle it will make the air flow past the front of the 5er but it will also exert a downforce which is the equivalent of pulling more weight.

RE: Winegard antenna… what’s it good for?

To answer your question, no, the Winegard dome antennas are for satellite reception only and will not pick up the local over the air digital broadcasts. Winegard does make a few over the air antennas that do pick up the local stations, but the domes are not among them. This is incorrect. I have the Winegard done on our 5er and it DOES pick up local over the air tv stations wherever we are.

RE: 5th Wheel Hitch Buyer's Guide

Yup that's what the "writer" will get. Inaccurate or false info from people who have "heard it from a friend" or read about it on the web. Such as the Ram needing a slider. I have a slider in my 2017 Ram and have not needed to use it.

RE: New battery cost.

Li are not a good option for Edmonton. Too cold in winter time. . well thats a load of BS. only no good if you camp in the winter and insist on leaving them on the tounge. Charge an LiFePo4 at -40. Not recommended you say? To run what I want I'd need 700 lbs of battery. Think I want to move that into the RV when it is -30? How do you guys turn someone’s simple question about the price of a deep cycle battery into your stupid p!swing match?? LOL, I was wondering the same. The OP is in Baltimore MD but I guess he could tow his trailer to Antartica. Well if this thread was over on the dedicated Keystone forum the 3 overbearing members there would have turned it into a payload issue.:h

RE: 5th Wheel Hitch Buyer's Guide

Hi everyone, I'm an automotive writer with a major (ish) site, and I'm putting together a 5th Wheel Hitch Buyer's Guide. I've been doing a lot of reading, watched videos, and talked to a couple of acquaintances who tow, but that's a small sample size and it's easy to miss important information when you don't have first-hand experience—I've done lots of bumper towing, but never with a 5th wheel. I'd love some input from knowledgeable people about what to look for when buying a 5th wheel hitch, what to avoid, and any personal experiences with specific brands or models. I'm happy to provide my email in a PM if anyone wants to talk off the record. Thanks, Dave really makes sense for someone to put together a guide about something they know nothing about, right? A bunch of second hand anecdotal information. I guess you could also just copy and paste a bunch of google articles and have the same thing.

RE: Where is the photos

I don't know what forums they are going to but they are going to campgrounds. Way too common now to see trailers with boots on at least two wheels, security lights that go on when you are ten sites away and a whole picnic table of people soaking in the great outdoors by looking at it on their tablets. If your site is a shortcut to their site then get out of the way so they can get through. Most must be crawling out from under rocks as they seem to know nothing about human behavior. Too bad this hobby is being taken over by inconsiderate dolts. Glad that I only have a few years of camping left in me. We used to come back from a trip relaxed and full of great encounters. Now, we get so disgusted that we either leave days early or end up going home swearing that we will never visit that campground again. End of rant.

RE: Generator Security

I keep my gen chained in the truck bed along with a 2nd spare tire. It weighs 140lbs+. If someone really wanted to steal it no "special" cable or lock is going to stop them. I agree that most thieves just look for an opportunity to grab something loose and easy to take.

RE: Auto leveling question

If your batteries are original to your TT it is definitely time to replace them. They are over 4 years old and I've found my trailer batteries don't have a very long life.

RE: Your Rig

I couldn't remember if I had posted a pic of our new 5er so here it is. It's 2021 Keystone Cougar T/V is a 2017 Ram 2500 6.7 Cummins.

RE: Fifth wheel mileage question

This is our 1st long trip with our new 5er, 14k gvwr. We've gone from so. NV to Reno-Elko-Boise-Lakeview-Medford so far. Tow vehicle is a 2017 Ram with Cummins 6.7. We've driven from hot desert to high mountains and everything in between from 2700ft elevation to 7300 foot passes. MPG has been anywhere from a high of 12.2 to 9.3.

RE: 2 a/c units on 1 gen?

Just an observation here. 2 weeks ago in 95° temps I was running the rear a/c in our 5er which is 15k btu off my gen using the 20 amp outlet. I had to use a 50ft extension cord and an adapter to the 50 amp power cord because the gen is too heavy to lift out of the truck bed by myself. The gen ran the a/c with no problem. It did pull down quite a bit at start-up but then ran for 7+ hours until I shut it off. It still had about one gallon of gas left. Obviously it would best without an extension cord but it worked just fine.

RE: Let's talk Dana 80 axle temps

I assume we are talking about the hubs (out by the wheels), not the differential (aka: pumpkin) in the middle. Unless you are heavily loaded or have other reason to believe you are putting more strain than normal on the bearings, I would pull them apart to make sure they still have grease in them and there is no other apparent damage. Obviously you are talking about something you know nothing about. Those full-floating axels are lubricated with the gear oil in the rear end not grease.

Aaaaand we're well on our way to another chicken little payload discussion! WoooHooo! It didn't take long for the payload police to show up on the scene.;)

RE: 16' Scamp and 2018 Ram 2500 diesel

There is always one or two trucks that get phenomenally better fuel mileage than the 10s or 100s of 1000s of others of the same vintage on RV or camping related boards. It's a law of nature. Yea... call me skeptical. A nice way of saying he's full of it LOL. No there are not. Plain and simple these people are full of you know what.

RE: 2 a/c units on 1 gen?

Well I guess I'll just have to give it a try and see what happens. My gen does have a 30 amp twist-lock outlet and I have an adapter for use with my rv 50 amp cord.

2 a/c units on 1 gen?

This is a hypothetical question, for now. Has anyone tried to run 2 a/c units with 1 large gen? 15k and 13.5k btu. I have a 3500 watt gen with 4600 watt surge. I'm wondering if it would be possible to run both a/c units using the 30 amp twist-lock outlet if both a/c units had a soft-start installed?

RE: 16' Scamp and 2018 Ram 2500 diesel

27 mpg hwy...? Sounds like one magical Cummins... I can get 22 on a perfectly flat road with no traffic in the most of ideal conditions. That being said, I believe that any flat front trailer will have a major impact on your towing mileage. You are towing a sail, regardless of weight. Perhaps going up grade won't have as big of an effect, but you are still pulling a sail behind you. 27mpg Really? You must be driving down hill all the time.
