RE: New to RVing and Already Upgrading

Congrats enjoy GoRV. It is a great lifestyle been doing 20+ years while the kids and more importantly we were still young and healthy. Same unit and still running great bought new in 2002. All the naysayers back then are now looking at us differently.

RE: Boondocking Devastation

Wow that is some boondocking experience. Much better than overpriced on top of each other private campgrounds.

RE: My problem now - First DP!

19 year old unit your list of problems are minor enjoy Rving. Used IMHO is other people's problems so you did well. I assume you are ready to do your own maintenance.

RE: Decal removal replacement

Is this your original unit or bought used? If used don't sweat it enjoy go RV.

RE: Proper outside storage

Parked unit outside no covers except for tires exposed to sunlight. Leave roof vent crack open, run generator monthly with ac on during summer, winter remove excess snow off the roof. 20+ years no issues, replace caulk, clean it, and do maintenance DIY, easy.

RE: Buying a Former Rental Class C. How many of us out there?

Fortunately had $ to buy new, IMHO used units are someone's else problems. I know my unit and maintained them myself. No trust in rentals maintaining them, if buying used, IMHO private party is best. I'm guessing that by used you mean a non-rental unit. I'd guess your notion goes double for former rental units. If one is not familiar with the care, feeding and maintenance of a RV then yeah, new is probably better option... at least it used to be. Right now I would not buy new unit period. Since the covid crazy buying and crazy crank em out sloppy factory practices the new ones are essentially junk. As far as former rental... again, sure helps to know what you're looking at... but the folder of rig history of maintenance and repairs is pretty slick and easy to proof by looking at the work done. I've had my former CW rental unit for 7 years now with zero problems beyond the normal maintenance. I'd buy another in a heartbeat... Bottom line one must do what makes them comfy as that is the prime directive for RV ownership!! I have been fortunate my 20 year old Winnebago C still going strong since I like maintaining it myself, love the tools and hobby. You may be correct new motorhomes are not made same quality as 2 decades ago, and yes private parties may not maintain their unit as well. Congrats on your rental unit 7 years with zero problems. Go RV remember to change oil and fluids.:)

RE: Awning

Agree with dougrainer buy the awing unit and fabric not just the parts. Just did the same thing for a slide out awning easy to DIY. Does not have to be exact replacement, Dometic was good to me during pandemic, highly recommend them. $ should not be an issue if you can afford the RV, letting someone else do the labor takes time and may do a bad job, I can do it myself within 2 hours.

RE: County Park Experiences

Good information always use public parks normally are plenty of spots not during Memorial Day, July 4th, and Memorial Day. Always spots available weekdays away from crowds, my unit has own own power and water boon docking is a good option.

RE: New battery cost.

Not a bad price for quality batteries, should last a few years. IMHO $125 to $150 is a decent battery don't want to be stuck with bad batteries. Definitely get at least group 27 for motorhome.

RE: Do you think this can be repaired?

OP if you are handy you should be able to bring it back takes time, DIY, don't outsource. Wood, fastener, caulk, foam insulation. Should be a good hobby project. IMHO anyone rving it helps to be handy.

RE: We knew it was coming...

IMHO Rving like boats are a luxury not a need. Tent camping is fun for most. Lucky $ to have the same unit for decades love to rv and maintain it as a hobby.

RE: Onan Running Problems

OP once you fix the generator issue, I always change the oil and air filter on the generator annually - easy task, buy basic hand tools. I also run it monthly for an hour under load and change the oil and air filter annually on the vehicle as well. Class C still going after 20 years.

RE: 2022 campgrounds

Campgrounds at state parks normally are not crowded during the weekdays. Stay home or boondocks during big 3, Memorial Day, July 4th, and Labor Day. Have not use private campgrounds last 15 years, even my backyard is nicer than most private campgrounds. IMHO we RV to stay away from crowds.

RE: Class C RV model recommendations

Winnebago 31C, 1 large slide V10. Not sure the name of current 31C is, name changes since 2002.
