RE: Solar Charge Controller question

Look at a Bogart Engineering SC-2030 PWM charge controller. They run about $120 and are a simple reliable device. I also use a Morningstar TS-45 PWM controller. They are a little more and run around $175.

RE: Battery Maintenance

RE: Using “wiggle wood” for roof on travel trailer?

First off i would never use 1/8" wood of any kind on the roof. you'll never be able to walk on it. I would use a minimum of 3/8" and might even consider 1/2".

RE: Toilet clog

I use the Flush King with success every time i have a clog. I tend to be too conservative when it comes to water and that leads to less water in the black tank than should be. My fault, i need to do better at adding initial water. Flush King gets two thumbs up from me.

RE: Home based cell booster

I use the Weboost RV and have it mounted to the top of my 20 foot flag pole which is mounted to the back bumper of the camper. So I didn't have to drill holes in my camper I ran the cable from the antennae to the cable TV connector then hooked the indoor section the output of the cable TV connector on the inside. Works great.

RE: Inverter questions

Based on my experience it might work if you are fully charged. I have a 1000 watt inverter and tried to run a 700 watt coffee maker off of it when the batteries were at about 70%. Drained the out rush of power dropped the battery bank too low and shut the inverter down due to a low power warning.

RE: Yellowstone Trip

Did that route in the opposite direction with a 34 foot 5th wheel. No issues.

RE: Any problems with Goodyear Endurance tires?

I just has a new set of Endurance put on my 5th wheel in early January. Towed the rig about 3000 miles round trip, Central Kansas to SW Missouri to SW Arizona back to central Kansas no issues.

RE: Invalid VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)

I found a VIN decoder for trailers that work with my 5ver VIN. Try this and see what you come up with. http://cmvid.nisrinc.com/CMV_ID/CMV_ID.asp

RE: Battery Replacement Assistance

Contrary to what some have posted a true deep cycle battery will do exactly what you are trying to do because I'm doing it. We have two Crown 6 volt 240 ah batteries (180 ah available capacity) and run my wife's CPAP, television, refrigerator on propane, lights, charge our phones and laptop and run the furnace as needed. The batteries are at about 65% plus or minus by morning and re-charged to 100% by 1:00 -2:00 in the afternoon.

RE: Cleaning your AC Filter

I won't as far as to say stupid because that's rude, but a really bad idea. The filter is intended to keep dirt out of the indoor coil. Dirt is next to impossible to clean out of the indoor coil without removing the AC from the rooftop.

RE: TT television

Just make sure the TV has the correct bolt pattern for your TV mount. There are a couple different standards depending on size.

RE: frsh water tank

Some rigs have a valve at the pump to shut off suction from the tank when on city water. If that valve is open it can back fill the tank. My 2010 Jayco is set up that way.

RE: Finally added the solar Next up, water storage

I'm curious about how you added solar to the rig in 1 1/2 hours. Mine took days. You don't mention the battery monitor, inverter, shunt or any fusing.

RE: Alone or in a group?

I prefer just me and the wife. Occasionally my kids will camp next to us but they only go out 2-3 times a year. We tend to go 10 outings per year on average.

RE: Daunting it's not...rooftop AC replacement

How much does the average AC unit weigh? Just curious--my TT doesn't have AC. Spec sheet on my Coleman unit says 93 pounds.

RE: Chucking - trouble shooting

In my opinion chucking is inevitable and nothing you can do will stop it. You may dampen the effects of the chucking but you won't stop it. In my experience chucking exists as a by product of two things: how you have the rig loaded and the road conditions. It's a known fact that an improperly loaded TT will have so much sway it can be dangerous. 5th wheels are no different in loading. A light front will cause chucking. I think the primary issue causing chucking is road conditions. Some roads cause chucking and some don't. When we travel cross country I tend to have a heavily loaded front end due to all the extra stuff I carry in case of an emergency. My set up rarely chucks but when it does it's obvious there's a change in road conditions that causes it. My biggest complaint is bridge transitions, they suck bad and cause chucking. No way around it no matter what you do.
