RE: How are your solar panels mounted?

It just requires attention to monitor the state of your sealant, and re-application of Lap sealant as needed. You have to go up and inspect lap sealant anyway on all the other huge holes on the roof. I have had to replace more of the lap sealant that the factory has put up there on everything else than the solar panels I put up. The lap sealant area for the 4 solar panels I put up is just a fraction of the total lap sealant up there.

RE: Battery: AGM vs. Flooded Cell

You can't charge any faster than your charger's max amps. There is a slight time saving once you get to the Absorption Stage where the AGM has a little more acceptance rate per SOC, but Bulk Stage timing is about the same. Some figures from past examples on this topic, noting the %SOC when Bulk ends using various charging rates. (The lower the charging rate, the higher the %SOC when Bulk ends after a time at constant max charger amps) Wets- 32% and 65%SOC AGM- 40% and 63%SOC Wets-19% and 72.5%SOC AGM- 15% and 75% SOC So if you are off-grid doing 50-80s you are going to shut off the gen not long after Absorption starts anyway, and you will not realize much of any theoretical time saving by having AGMs. Solar usually has a very low charging rate, so a high SOC when amps start to taper. This is true with Wets and AGMs. Hard to say if you are any more likely to get to 100% before dark with either type. Li batts do shine in this regard. At 100% charging rate, they reach 65% SOC when Bulk ends, and at a less stressful (and recommended rate with Battle Borns) 50% charging rate, Bulk ends nearer 80% SOC. Solar with Li means you won't see much of that faster charge with them either due to the low charging rate, unless you have a very large solar array. We were looking at all this a while back when discussing the wild claim seen in advertising, that AGMs charged "five times faster" :)Your numbers sure don't match my experience. I used to work for GM on the EV1 back in the day. AGM, although never made it into the car for the public, were experimented with and were going to be the next battery after the FLAs that were used. The reason they were going to be used was their higher charge rate. It wasn't 5 times but it was closer to 2 times faster. I have seen the tests the guy did on the marine how to site. He used old batteries that he even admitted were likely sulfated. As far as lithium are concerned, My 2 100A lithiums are pretty much in bulk charge with a lithium specific charger until they are 98% SOC. My charger is 60A. The absorption phase is very short and you can see the charge rate taper down to 0 within a few minutes.

RE: Battery: AGM vs. Flooded Cell

AGMs also have a lower Peukerts constant so if you discharge them at higher rates, they actually have more capacity for people who do that. Since they have a lower impedance than FLA, they can also be charged faster.

RE: How are your solar panels mounted?

Yes, all those holes. All roof penetration points are potential leak points. The tape, if applied correctly, will not fly off.I am guessing you never did this on a rubber roof have you?

RE: How are your solar panels mounted?

I have done 4 RVs with solar. None did I use screws, I just personally do not like more holes that can leak. You mean like the AC, the fridge vent, the TV antenna, the two or more flip up vents...those holes? A few holes for the solar panels are nothing in comparison. And, you won't be having the solar panels fly off and embed themselves in somebody's windshield.

RE: How are your solar panels mounted?

I made my own brackets out of aluminum angle bolted together. They get screwed into the roof. I was able to get a roof plan so that each mount is screwed through the roof into a wood rafter. Dicor under the foot of each bracket and around the entire foot once screwed down. Instead of tilting my panels. I just put up a 4th panel to account for the loss that flat panels give. The less I go up on the roof, the less chance I have of falling off the roof.

RE: Solar Charge Controller question

Epever is probably ok but the Victrons are great. Definitely get an MPPT controller. Depending on the panel specs, you can get 20% to 30% more yield. In the case of the OP's panels, he would get a 22% increase. EDIT: Just saw you made your choice.

RE: CBD oil

You can get CBD from both hemp and marijuana. There is CDB available from marijuana that has extremely low amounts of THC in it. My vet gave me some links for me to try on my dog that has a tremor in her back legs. CBD from hemp did nothing.

RE: If I went to a Progressive Dynamics Converter.......

You just use a transition post to change the size of wire right before the converter. Not a big deal. Run 1/0 wire from the battery to the post and 4AWG or 6AWG from the post to the convertor for the last foot.

RE: coronavirus...put it into perspective

Are the healthy paying a steep penalty for those that have neglected their health?Of course. 21% of health care costs in this country is because of obesity. It's a factor.Add in another 9% for smoking.

RE: coronavirus...put it into perspective

I'm sorry, but this is simply a fallacy put over on the public by the media so they can throw out higher, more scary stats. Here's proof. From Wikipedia: "Mortality rate, or death rate, is a measure of the number of deaths (in general, or due to a specific cause) in a particular population, scaled to the size of that population, per unit of time." From "The mortality rate is calculated by taking all the deaths that occurred during a particular time period and dividing that number by the total size of the population during the same time frame." From Encyclopedia Britannica: "mortality rate is calculated by dividing the number of deaths by the population at risk during a certain time frame." There, I've listed 4 good references which show the proper way to figure it, as it has been accepted scientifically and mathematically for many years. If we cannot stick to known facts but re-define facts on the fly to suit ourselves (as the MSM has done), we cannot communicate accurately. The media re-defines "mortality rate" and other terms on a frequent basis, so they can move the goalposts and frighten people into doing what is desired. From the CDC There are multiple ways of measuring mortality rate. One of which is for a specific cause: Cause-specific death rate Number of deaths assigned to a specific cause during a given time interval Inthis case, cause is contracting covid-19 For the Flu, the mortality rate is 0.1%. This is the mortality rate if you contract the Flu.

They should have a chart, based on time, how many people are still in denial! What I am reading in this thread is pretty remarkable. The other side of the coin is that you're just gullible to media bloviating, while the rest of us are more pragmatic.Yeah...those darn media outlets like the CVC and WHO. Like I said...denial.

Ignore 90% of what you hear and you may actually be able to filter out a little truth.Which 90%? The parts you don't like? Where's truth for you? Nobody here is in a panic - but you seem pretty upset.Kinda reminds me of the flat earthers.

RE: Weak Brakes

You have to burnish your brakes before they will start working well. Mine didn't work that great until I burnished them. To burnish the brakes drive at around 40 MPH and use the manual brake activation knob and use it to slow down to 25. Repeat 20 times allowing the brakes to cool before each application.

I love love love my 2018 F-150 towing mirrors. Would never get an F-150 without them. They are one of the reasons I ordered my truck.

And not sure where the theory the stock market or investing in general is a zero sum game came from. But this is not IBD.Hopefully, a lot of these guys have a financial adviser.

RE: Fed Cuts Rates: Will RV Rates Follow?

Mortgage rates will fall but not as much as you think they might with a 0.5% rate cut. Problem is there is only so much money that can get lent for mortgages and there are only so many banks and lending institutions that can process all the refinances. That causes so much demand that the lending institutions can keep the rates still fairly high yet process as many loans as they possibly can. You may have to wait 3 months to get a loan through because of the high demand. Basically, they will lower the lending rate to fill their loan pipeline. Once they supply all that and the Fed hasn't raised rates back up, then you might see an even lower home mortgage rate.
