RE: 4 season package?

True four season campers should have double pane windows. Double pane adds more weight but will reduce outside noise. If you press your finger against the outside glass while looking at it from the inside, you should be able to see if it is single or double pane.

RE: Solar panel mounting; screws or toggle bolts?

Go to YouTube and search for well nuts. I've used well nuts on two campers and consider them the best way to attach solar panels.

RE: Nowhere to go

Some places stop taking reservations in the fall and become first-come-first-serve - and their website shows "full" on their campground map. But if you read the alerts, they will tell you so. Other sites, like forest service campgrounds simply close and they too stop taking reservations.

RE: Charging a towed vehicle's battery

I'm currently installing an Invisibrake system and I have run a charge wire from the truck battery to the tow'd. The hot wire is fused at both the truck and tow vehicle batteries. The hot wire is always hot.

RE: Border

There are thousands of PHD's in the US of which most work in private institutions. You make it sound like all are government employees - they're not. Secondly, it would be foolish to overlook the fact that science is progressing at a furious pace. Adhering to old world process and procedures may be reassuring, but could be ignorant and mistaken.

Of course they are lying. Worse, they are lying and they don't even know it.

Labels for wire bundle that won't fall off

I need to label some split-wire loom cables. Some of the cable is in the engine compartment and some cable is beneath the (jeep) front bumper area - somewhat exposed to weather. At present, I've wrapped the split-loom with black electrical tape. Then, using a household file label printer, applied the label over the black electrical tape, then wrapped that in clear strapping tape. It probably won't last more than a few years. I need something more permanent - any ideas?

RE: Question about 12V charging on Jeep JL while flat towing

Instruction manual: Problem: I’m experiencing frequent battery drain on my towed vehicle. Solution: Battery drain can depend on your braking style and vehicle type. We recommend recharging the car battery once every three days to maintain optimum battery condition. Another solution is to install the Towed Vehicle Battery Maintainer (#39332). This accessory item continuously maintains the towed vehicle’s battery charge. Contact your local dealer or BrakeBuddy to order.

RE: Do pass-through windows leak?

Thanks for the info - we rarely drive in heavy rainfall and that could be a reason for no leaks. I think the manufacturer is cost cutting - eliminate the cost of a sliding window - and keep the sale price the same = more profit. Besides, how many people have a cat or dog that use the pass through window? Or need fresh air circulation in any weather? I've custom ordered a 15" x 30" pass-through window to replace the factory fixed glass. Waiting for delivery now. . .

Do pass-through windows leak?

Traditionally, truck campers have had a window that opens, usually a side-slide window, through to the truck cab. One manufacturer in particular is telling it's dealers that they stopped installing pass-through windows that open because the window leaks. I've owned two different brand truck campers with opening pass-through windows and they never leaked. What's your experience with an opening pass-through window leaking?

RE: How fast do you drive with camper on? .

65 or so. Fuel mileage drops off exponentially above that. 62 to 67 - again, fuel mileage suffers dramatically with each additional 5mph.

RE: Setting up a TOAD

1. Ease of hook-up: . . . Takes two minutes. We've timed ourselves - it takes four minutes. Though it maybe faster now that we've done it a thousand times.

RE: Why SRW off road?

Why are srw preferred to drw when getting off the beaten path? Greater versatility. For example, a forest service road worn to a cut in the road is wide enough for a dually. . .until a tight turn. The dually rear wheels will ride up the road cut embankment and tilt the truck camper. . .sometimes to an extreme. That event will rack the truck frame and stress the camper frame. Off road, the dual tires can and will get boulders wedged up between them. Those are the drawbacks that I've encountered.

RE: Setting up a TOAD

I installed a proportional braking system - purchased all parts and did the install myself. That's base plate, tow bar, electronics, etc. To do the work properly EVERYTHING must be secured and protected - as good as or better than factory wiring. I estimated my labor would have been around $1000. for the install. Parts were in addition. I would not let some kid or shade tree mechanic do this work. That said, I think your quoted price is too high. They must be tripling the price on parts and adding labor too it. I would look for a parts and labor price of closer to $3,000+ Under $4K for sure.

RE: Border News

Good grief. USA has a population of around 300 million while Canada is less than 40 million with almost same land area so of course US will have a much higher number of Covid cases, deaths and unvaccinated. This is an apples to oranges situation ...a very common perception outside the field of demography (size and structure of populations) "we spatial analysts" run across all the time. Especially when related to Canada (density/spatially). The 4th largest city in North America is Toronto, with a tremendous population density. This, right behind LA, New York, and Mexico City. Almost the entirety of the Canadian population live in a handful of cities (Greater Toronto Area; Greater Montreal Area; Greater Vancouver Area; etc; etc). The exact same viral contagion dynamics play out in Canada's 10 largest cities (those 10 encompassing almost the entirety of the 38 million Canadian population) as play out in Baltimore, Washington, Miami, Los Angeles and New York City. Just move the present northern US border between the USA and Canada a mere 60 miles north of its present location, and the US would have captured almost 98% of Canada's population :D Also, 38 million into 340 million goes: 8.9 times. Compare this ratio to the present infection rate of 166 x (times) US to Canada (I think today it is now 168 x the Canadian rate). Thank you for the spotlight on facts and truth.

RE: Tag axle for truck camper rigs

There is obviously a market for the "park princess" triple slide camper. So, yes, pavement only models are used by many people. Just like many Jeep Wrangler owners are "mall crawlers". The market is very much alive and well for that sort of thing. A tag axle puts within reach, the larger camper for those who prefer spacious luxury. Not all truck campers are off-road boon dockers. The versatile pickup truck gets a nice add-on with a tag axle. (That said, there will always be users that miss-manage and abuse equipment.)

RE: Tag axle for truck camper rigs

Being quick to condemn something "new" is not unusual. The "nay-sayers" overlook those who will find the tag axle is an answer to their problems. Being unable to afford a new truck to handle a heavy camper, or being in the position of owning an over-weight camper might well find the tag axle is a safety solution to their problem. Roy Pack has been at this a long time. I first saw his tag axle about five years ago at campground. It works.

RE: License plates

Apparently, no one has been ticketed for not having a plate on the camper? As for myself, it's an Arizona camper (no registration required) and spends most of it's Washington time on jacks. Bill-of-sale is Arizona. When hauling the camper it doesn't need to be registered. It probably a losing proposition for a Law Enforcement Officer (LEO) to make a stop and ticket.
