RE: Generator runs fine, but no electricity in coach

If this model of Onan continues to run, then it is making power. Assuming circuit breakers are on (and good), then most likely problem is wiring connections in connection box (usually near genset itself), or in transfer switch. I've found most transfer switch problems to be in the time-delay circuit board in x-fer sw. It can often be by-passed with a small dip switch on circuit board. (The switch will engage on generator power, but no time delay)

RE: 7.5 DKDFJ

Don't know if you solved your problem, as reply is a bit dated. 7.5. DKD with low volts probably voltage reg, (most DKD's use a transformer type regulator)make sure engine running at correct speed (1800rpm= 60hz on this gen). Low speed will have low voltage output. Other possible causes are partially shorted exciter/rotor/stator winding

RE: ID onan generator

close up of control panel and circuit breakers (does it have one or two c/b's? Top of engine showing spark plugs and ignition coil would probably be good

RE: ID onan generator

If your Onan Emerald has points, it is probably a 1985-89, BGE model. if it has a transformer voltage regulator, it would be a 85-87 model. The 6.5 NHE models have different engine than 4&5 KW . many of the generator parts interchange with them, depending on the type of voltage regulation. I could identify it with a couple of good photos. Don't know what's allowed on this forum, but email to [email protected] if you like. Onan gen.tech 35years+

RE: 170VAC coming from my Onan generator

This "M" spec Emerald runs at 1800 rpm and has an electronic voltage regulator. assuming governor speed is somewhat close to correct, then the high ac voltage is almost always caused by faulty voltage regulator. the field circuits are "stuck" in full field mode. Flight Systems part number for the VR is model 305. Have installed dozens of these, with excellent results. better price and warranty than Onan part.
