RE: Thoughts on the Cost of RVing

I bought gas here today for $1.70, another place had it for $1.60. I may never see that again if all the green new deal works out. Never mind all my oil and fracking leases. Don’t look good folks. Yes, this is what I fear may happen very soon. Delving into more research on the carbon tax scheme, which I don't fully understand, looks like I maybe should be just as worried about the cost of electric/natural gas for the house, propane and anything else dealing with fossil fuels. An uncertain economic future for sure, at least for us.

RE: Thoughts on the Cost of RVing

OP here and lots of good comments. We are recently retired and are now more tied to a budget. Certainly not quitting RVing, just have to be more conscience of costs. Although I understand supply vs. demand, its a little disheartening seeing certain RV parks doubling the nightly rates and doing nothing to improve their parks. BTW, I average 9 mpg when towing and I did use $5 a gallon to figure my gas costs. 3800 miles divided by 9 equals 422 gallons. At $5 a pop, that's $2110. I'm by no means a math wiz, but I think that's right. No, I don't believe gas will go up that much by this summer but I do think that by this time next year it's sure a possibility.

Thoughts on the Cost of RVing

In the process of planning a trip next summer out to Glacier NP, Yellowstone and all the NPs in Utah. About 3800 miles, round trip, and at least 30 nights. So, I just read an article in Barrons predicting much higher gas prices after the election. It’s been a good run on low gas prices the last few years and we've got in a lot of great trips. I do remember the $3.75 - $4.50 a gallon price that was common 5-6 years ago and how that curtailed our travel to the point we could only afford to go a couple hundred miles. If prices raise to $5.00 a gallon, as being mentioned by other media, and campgrounds raising their rates as is happening, we are starting to question if we can afford to continue making long trips. By the way, so far in my planning, campground nights will average $55. Of course some parks will be lower and some higher. With a near $4K just in gas and campground fees, probably looking at well over $6K for the trip. To get to the point of my post, wondering what other folks may be thinking about the cost of RVing these days? At what point does it get just too expensive? Please, there is nothing political about my post and I hope comments can be civil. I also know the economics of RVing has been discussed here in the past and I’m not harping on high costs as they are what they are. Just wondering what/if folk’s concerns might be here in the present about the high cost of RVing.

RE: TT Tire Recommendation

OP here, my apologies for my original post, which by the way had nothing to do with politics. I simply had bad tires from a company that I won't purchase from again. I guess toxic politics have a way of tarnishing everything in America these days.

RE: Newbie: 1/2 Towable Cross Country Trip Suggestions

If you're going to need internet to work, you may need to check out whatever RV Park you'll be staying at for good service. Out of the 156 parks we've stayed at over the past few years, I think 3 had good enough internet you could work with. A little exaggeration, but seriously most RV parks have crappy internet.

TT Tire Recommendation

Had a blowout coming home last month and now have no confidence in the OEM "Trailer King" tires so getting ready to purchase new tires for my TT. Was going to purchase the Goodyear Endurance but now won't buy anything from GY. Looking at the Carlisle HD, which I've had before and had no problems. Anyone have any other recommendations before I pull the plug.Thanks....

RE: Camping World Fail (Again)

Our host did let you post your opinion. I’ve not had any issues with CW but I read their offers closely. Not an opinion if it actually happens.

Camping World Fail (Again)

I'm actually smiling, CW's incompetence and dishonesty just makes me smile. Tried to order a BAL spare tire carrier on-line this morning using the "coupon code" issued to me that was on back of their new catalog I received last week. The coupon was for 'up to 50% off any single item'. Of course during check-out, the coupon was denied. Called them and after talking to 6 different agents in 3 different departments (I swear this is true) finally asked for a supervisor who told me I had to first go to another CW on-line site to redeem the coupon and would be given another code to use at checkout. Did that and low and behold, the new code (now at 10% off), was denied also. All this took me over an hour --- for nothing. Their new catalog went in the trash and I'm done with them for anything. Will not renew Good Sam either. I've read lots of negative posts about CW and now I see why. I suppose business ethics isn't practiced at this company. Sad!

RE: Anyone use a Solo Stove

Thanks all for the comments. I do agree it looks like an old washing machine tub. Everywhere I looked on-line, this fire pit is $300. Probably would never buy a new one but for less than half price, its going to be a keeper.

Anyone use a Solo Stove

Just brought a used Solo Stove "Bonfire". Pro and Cons if you're using. Brought because it was a great deal but not for sure if I'll use it. Looks pretty neat though and from what I've heard, its almost smokeless.

RE: Digital Thermostat Cuts on AC During Freezing Weather

Thanks everyone for the tips. Cavie: I want to change to an analog thermostat because the digital one is too sensitive. It's mounted in my hallway and every time we walk by we'll somehow change something, Probably just brushing it with our clothes or something. Its gotten to be a major PITA for us. However, since my original post, I've ordered one of those clear plastic thermostat covers and once installed, might just solve our problem.

Digital Thermostat Cuts on AC During Freezing Weather

Wondering if anyone else has seen this issue. Last night, we had a deep freeze down here in South Texas. The freeze caused our electric service to *blink*. This happened about 5:00 am. When letting the dogs out an hour later, I heard my TT's AC unit running. I have an RV port and the TT was winterized but I keep it plugged in. Only way, that I can figure, for the AC to come on all by itself, is a glitch with the Dometic digital thermostat during electrical fluxes. Since we don't experience many freeze nights, hard to replicate. Anyone else had this happen? On a side note, I was wondering if this harmed my AC unit, can't be good to have an AC running in 27 degree weather? (Not for sure if the compressor was running or just the fan.) As I don't really like the digital therm anyway,I'm considering replacing it with an old style analog one. If anyone has done this, easy job? Cheers........
