RE: Legitimate concern with ultralight flooring.

I have a friend of similar size who camps with us sometimes. It was a concern for us too. Luckily he is aware of his size and doesn’t go in the trailer. There is nothing inside suitable to support that kind of weight. The floor is the least concern. Toilet, shower, dinette bench’s etc are all too flimsy to support that weight, as are the folding steps and door grab handle. It warrants a gentle conversation.

For full timing get the 2500 and skip the 5.7. Get the 6.4 for better power and fuel economy.

A coworker had one for a couple of years. Upsized from a Tacoma because he wanted a full size truck even though it was just a daily driver. He never towed anything. He got it new, for well under sticker, after it sat on the dealer lot for nearly a year unsold. He liked the truck but it stranded him a couple of times when it wouldn’t start in the winter cold. Dealer couldn’t figure out the problem and they struggled with a lack of Diesel engine experience. Took a huge hit at trade in but now drives another Tacoma.

If you’re looking to tow a fiver you do not want a truck that’s lifted 4”. The stock height of newer trucks is already too high for a lot of trailer.

22” rims will have low profile tires which will be more stable towing ( less sidewall flex), if they have the weight rating, but that’s besides the point. You have the wrong truck no matter what rims are on it.

The majority of used vehicles in Canada end up going to the states, especially trucks. I constantly have dealers hounding me for my trade. A commercial registration in Quebec is probably a rental or lease company. Could be good or bad but most aren’t treated well. That might be what the price reflects. The other 2 registrants would probably be an auction house and then the US dealer that bought it. Also be careful with vehicles from Quebec. Their reporting rules are different and a lot of things don’t show on Carfax reports. I believe Canadian vehicles won’t have oem warranty coverage from US dealers either, at least that’s how it is here.

Yup, it’s getting pretty bad and annoying. Every time I have to refresh several times before a page opens. Needs to be fixed soon or I’m done.

Our lower bunk is a futon mattress setup that can be easily removed. We set up a pack-n-play play pen in its place which worked well. You can also use it outside other times.

Intakes and tuners won’t do anything if you don’t fix the exhaust side too. The small benefit you may get will take a long time to recoup the cost of the “ upgrades” and will void any warranty as well. If there was an easy fix to boost power and mileage without negative affects the manufacturer would have done it already.

RE: Truck GVWR wrong weight listed on registration

I had a similar situation with my truck when I bought it and didn’t realize it for the first year. The dealer did the original registration and the GVWR was really low. I would have been overweight with just me in the truck. This would have been a big fine if I had ever been pulled over (which is common on some highways here). On renewal I had it changed to the max GVWR for my truck. I only need the higher GVWR for when I’m towing in the summer months and can reduce the rating to save on fees for the rest of the year but can’t be bothered with the hassle. I pay the higher license rate to avoid the penalties if caught underrated.

Depends a lot on the specifics of the truck what he can pull. Payload is usually the controlling limit for 3/4 ton trucks. Probably looking at 12-14k GVWR trailers depending on the truck payload limit. Payload is not a controlling limit on a 3/4 ton truck with a fiver, rear axle weight is. Payload is artificially low to keep it under a 10k GVWR for registration purposes.

B&W is a very good and popular hitch. The Reese Elite and Pullrite hitches are very good. Curt also had it’s fans. And they all have ones to fit the Ford factory prep. Just whatever grabs you. Be prepared for the discussion to change to, that is not enough truck for that 5er. It’s gonna happen. I appreciate the caution and have researched this quite a bit. It is rated for 19.2K on towing a 5th wheel, has 26K GCWR, 3.6K payload and scored 94.5 points on the IKE. It meets the weight specs. The Ford engineers are right on this truck. Where did you get those numbers? Brochures? The only F250 that comes anywhere close is a stripped down 4x2 regular cab with a 6.2l. The actual numbers for a truck on the lot are usually much less once optioned out. You really should have ordered an F350. The price difference is usually less than $500.

We’re a family of 4 plus 2 dogs. We don’t pack light but we don’t pack to the extreme either. For a week long trip we average 1k added to trailer, not including water.

The weight on your Steer Axle with WDH engaged should be greater than the truck only weight. Your numbers show the drive axle lost 80# while the drive axle gained 780#. No it shouldn’t. The idea is to restore weight removed from the front axle. It is usually very difficult to restore all of the weight and some vehicle manufacturers even say to only restore 50%. It should never exceed the unloaded weight. Numbers here are about as good as they can be.

I put mine in place of 2 of the license plate screws. Worked really well. I have also seen them inside the gas filler door.

RE: Hooking grill to onboard propane

I use a splitter on my 20lbs trailer tank to run a 20’ hose to my bbq. The splitter has the same screw type fitting as the bbq and allows me to run the line before the trailers’ regulator. The other way is if your trailer has a quick connect port for a gas line. Remove the bbq regulator and add an adapter to use a hose into the quick connect port. A search on here or google will show how and what you need.

Thanks camp-n-family. I was curious. Most of my driving was freeway until I bought a car and quit using my truck every day. I was getting new tires at about 80,000 miles and I asked my friend who owns the tire store if he would mind of I looked at my brakes while they had the wheels off and his reply was, "oh go right ahead but I'll tell you that the brakes on those trucks never wear out". I'm starting to believe him. I look at the pads when I rotate my tires.I marvel that they have lasted as long as they have but there's still plenty of pad left and they're wearing evenly. OP, I'm glad all is well. Did you ever hit your brakes hard to see if it did it again or was it just a one time thing? The brake components seem to last pretty good but I find the calipers get sticky and the rotors rusty. A regular clean and lube of the calipers and resurfacing of the rotors and they will last even longer.

Curious if there was a crown in the road. You mention you were mid pass, so between lanes. If there was any rise in the pavement between lanes or grooves where the tires track and you hit the brakes hard on one it could cause the wheels to pull to one side.
