RE: Dometic Compressor Fridge Issue

Interesting in that I had exactly the opposite problem: it would turn of with the refrigerator good and cold but the freezer wasn't. Solved with foam insulation between the sections. Don't remember that mine had a fan -- just convection. But I guess it could be that a circulating fan has failed. Yes, the thermostat is (or was) in the refrigerator section, at the back just below the freezer -- part of the adjustment dial.

RE: Why do I need a DC to DC charger?

There's a lot of ridiculous advice in this thread. Maybe a little good too -- but I'm way too smart to keep reading when I see horse- I mean nonsense.

RE: Truck Camper Cable Entry for DC-DC Charger Wiring

I used one of these and the matching plug. I think it's called a 'tail gate' connector or something like that. width=650 You're going to use a solenoid or equivalent - right?!, to disconnect the circuit when the truck isn't running. My charge circuit

RE: Our New Camper

Wow, Alex -- nice looking camper. I predict many more great trips in your future. Compressor fridge? Solar? Batteries?

RE: For all you carpenters

Reminds my of a construction worker I know, who wasn't great with English. He said "too short - very impossible to fix". (not really - just start over with a new piece)

Definitely one of a kind.

RE: Timbrens vs Stableloads

I like this approach as they enhance OE suspension and do not effect unladen ride. I think you answered your own question.

RE: Saying good bye to a old friend..Our Lance 815

You two certainly have been around Alex. Glad to hear you're not retiring. Want to see pictures of the new TC.

RE: New to Truck Camping

The best you can hope in this (continuing) discussion/argument is to understand the factors in your particular situation -- and hopefully make a sound decision. The two extremes for max load are: 1) believe what the manufacture says, and 2) real max load is the minimum of rear axle capacity / spring capacity / tire capacity. I was and am a 2 man (within reason).

RE: Removing Contact Overloads

I don't know what they mean be 'contact overloads', either. But I do know that I did something similar on a similar truck, and certainly did not remove the bottom overload spring. In fact, I increased it's usefulness. Top overload springs My objective was to have the fully loaded truck ride at stock height -- which it did.

RE: Wilderness camping and gun safety

Never felt remotely unsafe on any of my deep offroad camping trips. But I almost always had the shotgun ready (at night -- not while driving), 1 to jack into firing position and 7 in reserve. 00 buckshot or rifled slug, depending on the area. Never fired a shot.

RE: Back up camera using factory screen

I apologize for slightly expanding the question. Who knows have to change a stock 'backup' camera into a rear view camera that can be turner on and off with a switch, instead of selecting reverse. (I know it will be manufacturer specific). That's how my old truck/TC was setup with an aftermarket camera and screen, and it was very useful since the inside mirror is useless with the TC on.

RE: My (our) Ultimate Truck Camper Body Build

Outstanding work, and beautiful result. But for full credit, you have to show your design work. (or not, it's the result that counts)
