RE: Spring blocks disintegrated

Hockey pucks look better and are easier to get. You can keep your flimsy hockey pucks.

RE: Spring blocks disintegrated

Please tell me more. Where did you get it? How did you mount it? The whole story is here . With the springs and pads as shown, my loaded truck sat at stock height, and I had no sway or any other handling problems on many extreme offroad trips. As to where I bought the material, I don't remember. Internet search for UHMW will find many sources.

RE: Trip report: High Country of the Eastern Sierra

You sure pick the great places. Fantastic pictures. Don't know about your climate judgement however.

RE: Spring blocks disintegrated

the blocks in the springs fell out Block IN the springs?? Do you mean the pads that the overload springs push against under load? Or something different? If the former, I made my pads out of Ultra High Molecular Weight polyethylene, UHMW. It's cheap, can be bought in just about any size, cuts and drills as easy as wood, but wears stronger than steel. I wore out several kinds of pads until this was recommended. Thousands of miles -- no wear, no problems. width=640

RE: Where do you find water

I've found that many service stations will also allow a fill. Purchase first can't hurt.

RE: Did I forget anything? ordering a new Hallmark pop up camper

I would definitely get the cassette toilet. One of the best options I had.

RE: Back in the day...

I said to my doctor, “I think I might have ADHD, because I can’t remember where I parked my Ford!” She said, “That’s not how ADHD works.” I said, “But I keep losing my Focus!” And the doctor said: "that's a good thing"

RE: Big Brother- Tag on your TC?

I affixed a license plate bracket to my camper and I take the plate from the truck step bumper and put it on the camper, in plain view. I did that whenever I was planning to go out of state. Maybe that plan was exactly backward --.

RE: Converted to Lithium-Ion be careful.

Here is a short article on 5 common lithium battery types. Thanks for the link. Good to know.

RE: Advice on truck and camper purchase

Burr Trail or Mogollon Rim trails are very tame. My suggestion is to decide what you really want - off-road capability or more room/comfort. A compromise is not going to be great for either. If off-road is your goal, a popup camper (there are some very nice ones) on a shorter wheel base would be better. (of course, a much smaller camper on a smaller truck would be even better for off-road). I'm 6-3, 190 and had many extensive (and comfortable) off-road trips in my pop-up. Take a look at my and Whazoo's setup and trips for one good way to do it.

RE: Seeking expert opinion: thinning vs prescribed burns

Again not a expert but forest fires have been happening before man was a thing. That is indeed very interesting: factual history/evolution/botany/ecology/chemistry. Clearly fire was nature's original way - and the way I would prefer, except that humanity has changed nature so much that the 'nature way' has big potential and actual problems. And it now seems impossible to me to restore original forest conditions on any meaningful scale. So my weasel answer is 'it depends'; fire when 'reasonable and practical'.

RE: Cant hook up a whole house generator

So I go to the other side of the house and look at the supply and there is no main there either. Rant over.. There is something wrong. There has to be a main breaker that shuts off all power to the house -- unless NC is REALLY strange. Pulling the meter is not an acceptable substitute for a main breaker - though that's probably what a fire department would do in case of fire. I would definitely contact your local building inspection department to be sure.

RE: Considering getting a truck camper

What is your rear axe capacity? Spring capacity? Wheel and tire max load? Maybe this or this. But both would be pushing it a lot I suspect. And finding used? I don't know.

RE: Variable speed water pump

I replaced mine with a Shurflo variable speed pump, and it worked great for 13 years (until I sold the camper -- don't know about after that). It was not quieter on full speed, but usually ran quieter at slower speed. Even at low speed, I wouldn't call it quiet, though.

RE: Bring beer into Canada

Can each person bring 24 cans each? Sorry, way off topic, but this reminds me of a famous quote: "24 cans in a case; 24 hours in a day. Coincidence? I think not"
