RE: Route Apache Junction AZ to El Paso TX in October

To clarify a little my destination is actually just north of Tampa and from Gilbert it doesn’t make sense to go back to I-40 which I like better than I-10

Route Apache Junction AZ to El Paso TX in October

Looking for the best route from Apache Junction, AZ to El Paso with a 36 DP and toad. I’m looking at 60 to Globe, 70 to Safford, then 191 down to I-10. Can I avoid the Winslow to Payson type route this year without going west to I-10 like I’ve done in the past without adding a day to the route I did do 87 from Winslow down to Payson and then down to Phoenix with the N Bush Highway to the 202 last year and one section of that I do not want again. That was the section down to Payson. I’ll go back to Holbrook and take 377 to 260 to Payson. Will I avoid the very narrow curves like last year going the proposed route. Will take options if there are any. Thanks for the help.

RE: Using my Class A in freezing weather?

If you have slide toppers don't open the slides when frozen. They will not thaw quickly but may pull the connection right off the roof when opening the slide. Then there is a leak that you will regret.

RE: Michigan to Arizona route advice

We did this in October with a 36' HR Neptune and Focus as toad and did not have a problem. We did 250 to 300 miles a day starting at 8 and ending by 4. Dog and I need rest stops. My max speed is 63 mph and use the second lane if there are three. People are not always polite so I let them go. I do like alot of room ahead. I use this GPS which is large and great for our size. I also try to avoid I-40 all year and use I-20 or I-10 unless going to Havasu to see family. Learning to enjoy the travel and not try to get to the destination is the biggest learning curve. We are now in FL so not worried about snow like I-40 might have. Enjoy the trip and be safe. PM for any questions.

RE: MI to FL

We come from MI to FL and are there now. Our route is I69 south to Montgomery, AL then 231 through Dothan until I-10 East. Now you can go as far across and then south into Florida as you want. No real large cities and much flatter travel. I-65 You are correct as I-69 turns into I-65 at Indy and then it is Montgomery. From MI we start on I-69

RE: RV Park Reservation Apps

RVParky for route then check Google Earth for access and then for ratings.

RE: I-40 from East to Apache Junction

obgraham; you were correct in the shoulders are narrower or non existent but the rout is doable. Only problem we had was a bad semi accident just before Bush on one of the 6% grades that took an hour to clear. Thanks for the help.

RE: What is UPSN and how do you track it?

United Parcel Service United States. This link may help you. USPN is surepost, UPS picks up the package and delivers it to your local post office for them to deliver or in some instances just delivers it themselves. It will have 2 tracking numbers, one starts with “1z” for its time in the UPS system, and a longer one.. like 26 digits for its time with the post office.

RE: I-40 from East to Apache Junction

Thanks, we've come across from Havasu in the past so the traffic in Phoenix is not a problem.

I-40 from East to Apache Junction

I've done the trip, Phoenix to Holbrook through Payson and then up 260 to 377 to I-40 with a TT, and also through Flagstaff up I-17 with the TT and neither was a big problem. This time it is Winslow to Apache Junction in a 36 DP with a toad. There is no rush but I also do not want to be relying just on the brakes or engine brake coming down into Phoenix. My current debate is Holbrook, 377/260/87 and then 202 loop east to Apache Junction or go Winslow and then 87 all the way down to 202. Over to I-17 seems too much out of the way and from my memory I-40 is a sorry road needing repair. We will be actually coming from Meteor Crater RV Park. Are there any recommendations on the trip and why? Thanks

RE: Figuring Mileages

50 mph is good and I use RVPARKY along with Furkot. I put in the locations that me the route I want and it will spit out the distance and time in the s summary. Not that hitech but works for me. I don't use the phone apps for planning but just for search near where we stop.

RE: Class As in cold weather?

We use our non-Aquahot DP all the time and do not have problems without strip heaters in the AC units and only have one furnace. But we are only 36' long.

RE: Florida to Arizona Trip

We are doing the reverse in October and will take 8 stops. Apache Junction to Spring Hill. Two will be multi day ones and seldom go over 300 miles per day. Two at 370 and 2 at 340 this time.

RE: us 65 south from branson

Thanks for the quick replies. Just left the Amish country in SE Ohio and the hills were not a problem but the very narrow roads, no edge or center lines and very little visibility around the curves kept me well below the limit. The locals were not happy but that is what it is. The way out of the Amish we stayed on some better truck routes and all is good. We are not in a hurry and will then be spending 6 months at a snowbird site. Thanks for the info and enjoy the lifestyle.

us 65 south from branson

Going from Branson to Tampa and was thinking us 65 south from branson to I40 but not wanting narrow roads in a 36' DP with toad. I'm open to suggestions.
