RE: Anyone awitch to new Visible Plans?

Right now Visible has a 50% off deal ($15 per month for 1 year) if you bring your own phone
This was a short lived promotion. It's gone now.

RE: Visible Cell Plans & Service

DW & I are seriously considering ditching Verizon.
DO IT and don't look back.
Verizon jacked up my rate last summer. I think they did it to everyone. It's classified as a surcharge of some sort, kind of like how UPS adds a "fuel surcharge" when they deem it necessary to jack up rates and do it in an easy way.
I'm very likely going to switch to Visible.

RE: What did you do to your Camper Today?

compared to the turbo fan the unit uses for circulating air under around the holding tanks. I wired up a 140mm computer fan on the outlet side that constantly circulated air down below.
The factory installed fans AF uses are obnoxiously loud.
I replaced mine with a quieter one, built a proper air flow shroud around it and wired in a switch so I can operate it in manual mode when I use an electric heater.
Here's the video of that project

Some sort sort of sheet metal style screw works dandy. Stainless is preferred.

RE: Honda generator to truck camper

P.S. deltabravo, is it possible you were experiencing more of an issue with your generator lacking enough inrush current to start your a/c compressor, rather than an issue with the PI EMS?? Sounds to me like your EMS was simply doing its job. The voltage dropped too low when your generator was unable to provide enough inrush current to start the a/c compressor, so the EMS simply cut-off power??
Two things were at play:
1. The E2 error, which I could overcome be flipping the switch on the EMS remote, which bypass that error.
3. The other issue was the lack of ability of the generator to provide enough surge power to get the A/C fan and compressor started. When that happened, the voltage would sag and the EMS would kick off the power.
When I finally decided to jettison the EMS, the generator started the A/C just fine.
If I would have had a Micro Air Easy Start back then, it would have likely allowed the A/C to start from the generator with the EMS installed.
I so have a Micro Air Easy Start on my AF 992 truck camper's A/C.

RE: Replacing AC; can a 15k btu go where a 13.5k btu used to be?

Yes.
And when you install it, use blue thread lock on the mounting bolts.
Multiple times mine have loosened up and then water leak in under the gasket when it rained.
Other owners have had the same problem.

RE: 2010 Duramax electric brake voltage??

OP why are you asking about the trailer brakes on that rig? IE if they don’t work well at a reasonable gain, they need to be fixed.
That was my thought too, plus, it's someone else's truck, so don't be concerned with it.

RE: 2010 Duramax electric brake voltage??

Question. Friends are heading out tomorrow from Saskatchewan heading for Southern California.
They are driving a 2010 Duramax pulling a fifth wheel. Would his truck have a similar setting other than the normal “gain” adjustment?
Nope. I have a 2009, which is identical to the 2010.
There's a plus and minus sign to tweak the gain setting, that's all.
Any HD Silverado/Sierra 2007.5 and newer could have the ITBC, not just the Duramax equipped trucks.... so really, it's "Silverado/Sierra" (maybe even a 1500 truck / Suburban / Tahoe option too) not just a "Duramax" thing.
Also, 2007.5 - 2010 is the LMM Duramax, which don't have an exhaust (turbo) brake
2011 + (LML, L5P) have an exhaust brake.

Throw ALL those Math problems Into the trash can and stop over thinking.
IF the brakes a low, AND your taking that multi thousand mile trip ( 6,000 - 10,000 ) , just replace them and be done with it..:S

RE: Honda generator to truck camper

Once upon a time I had a Progressive Dynamics hard wired EMS system in my AF 811.
It rejected generator power until I flipped a switch on its remote panel to disable one mode of its monitoring - open ground I think.
I always had to remember to flip that switch to use my EU2000.
One aspect of the hard wired unit that I despised, and a portable unit would surely do the same thing when plugged in to a smaller portable gen is this:
Any time my roof A/C compressor kicked on, the generator voltage would drop just enough to trigger the EMS unit to cut off incoming power (low voltage protect). When that happened, the compressor would of course be in a semi-locked rotor condition and would NOT start when the EMS re-enabled incoming power, so the voltage would sag again and the EMS would cut off power.
The ONLY way to get the generator to reliably run the A/C due to the issues with the hard wired EMS I had was to turn on my inverter, which would allow the inverter to carry the load of the A/C when the generator voltage sagged and caused the EMS to kill incoming generator power. Once the EMS re-enable incoming generator power, the inverter transfer switch would enable and switch off inverter mode and then the generator would power the A/C.
For the above reasons, I never recommend using a surge protector (portable or hard wired) when using a smaller sized portable generator.
I had my AF 811 for close to 11 years. About 3 years before I sold it, I removed the hard wired EMS and ebay'd it.

RE: 8 Gauge Wire

I am running a Victron DC to DC Charger in my AF 992.
From the engine bay to the truck bed, I have 4AWG wire with an Anderson connector where it plugs in to the camper.
From the DC to DC Charger to the truck bed pigtail, I used large wire too, but I honestly don't remember what size it is.
Here's a few videos of that project, which might give you some ideas:

RE: Inverter and battery sizing to power my camper microwave

I had a 2000 PSW inverter in my AF 811 for 10 years, with two wet cell batteries for about 7 years, then 2 AGM batteries for the last several years I owned the camper. It ran the microwave just fine.
I use my microwave all the time, at least once a day and there's never any issues.
All the various inverters I've used since the mid 90s have a built in transfer switch, so the easiest way to install them is to disconnect the shower power cord from the AC panel, route it to the inverter and then run a new air from the inverter to the AC panel.
All AC circuits are powered from the inverter.
With this setup, I often will power my fridge by the inverter when driving.
The inverter will run the A/C, but two AGM batteries don't have enough capacity to do so, so I never expected the A/C to get powered by the inverter.

This is the AGM upgrade I did in about 2016 or so
