Prophetstown SP or Patoka Lake Campground

Leaving Elkhart and heading to St. Louis and want a couple of nights on the way. Read reviews & such, but am looking for more opinions. Should we spend a couple of days at Prophetstown SP or Patoka Lake Campground. It will be our shake down trip so basically sit around the campsite and play with knobs & things to see what does what, so to speak. Need to find a place in Indiana as IL & Kty are not open till June 1 and we must be home by then. (Of course!) Oh yeah Turkey Run is booked solid for those days. Thanks!

RE: Recovering from rotator cuff surgery...what to expect?

My advice is that if you go out in public, during this virus and all, if you need it or not wear your sling. I used to call mine my wet paint sign. I had mobility, but the arm was still sore & didn't want any one slapping me on the back or shoulder. "Wet Paint" works.

RE: Keys to reopen June 1

I just recently read an interesting article about adjusting numbers. i.e. John has the virus and is tested, count 1. John enters the hospital and is tested, count 2. Daily John gets tested to check his progress, count 1 per day = ? John's final test shows negative, count on that 0. But John accounts for a minimum of 3 to 10 positives. Makes sense to me. And besides it was on the web, and you know that's true.

RE: Well, I have learned one thing during this pandemic...

And speaking of masks, my wife is sewing masks for our local elks lodge to help raise money for our various charity fund raisers. I know I'm not suppose to post spam or solicitations, and I'm not trying to sell anything, just thought it is worth noting. As I tell people, my wife & I work to accomplish this. Shes a seamstress and I'm an alcoholic. https://i.imgur.com/2jGS51dl.jpg

RE: Where do you store your Shoes, Boots, Sandals and Slippers

One pair is with my clothes and the other pair is on my feet. But I'm a male. Others may have different requirements (as my DW).

RE: Leveling Blocks vs jack pads

Thanks for your advice. If I have to do it again I will keep that in mind. But knowing me & my luck I generally try to prepare for the worse case scenario. Warm weather or not.

RE: Leveling Blocks vs jack pads

Nice job but to make a constructive comment the 3/4" holes in the plywood should have been in the 2x10 and then the holes would not be visible! Problem with that is if the braided twine were to need replacement you couldn't do it with the plywood being glued down. And to drill through the plywood in the same exact spot(s) would be impossible. Besides then you'd have what I have now.

RE: Leveling Blocks vs jack pads

Well finally got them done. Since I'm still in lock down wasn't in any hurry. It was what I call a rummage project. I rummaged through my assortment of junk and found a little of this and a little of that. Found some nice nylon cord, but it wasn't thick enough to suite me, so I braided 3 strands together for my pulls/handles. Cut the boards 10" along with scrap plywood, glued & screwed, as suggested. Drilled a 1/4' hole into a 9/16 hole. slide the twine into the 1/4" hole & up through the top. Tied a knot in the twine and pulled back into the larger hole. Did this on both sided then filled the holes with Gorilla glue. This should do the trick. https://i.imgur.com/QvCcO5tl.jpg

RE: What's where we are going?

Here's a fun site if you're bored during lockdown and want to do some research. Select the state of your interest, then in the red bar at the top select "Features". This will display a list of features from airports to post offices to harbors and many more. Not all are of interest, but for example under Bridges it will also list covered bridges (DW's favorite).

Missouri SP opening up

As per Fox 2 news today: Campgrounds at Missouri State Parks reopen Monday, May 18 with some new guidelines in place to accommodate social distancing. One significant change is that you must reserve a spot before you arrive. There is also a new contactless, cashless, self-check-in feature. First-come, first-served camping will no longer be available at most state park campgrounds. Reservations will be required before arrival. New reservations can be made starting Monday for dates beginning Tuesday, May 26. Missouri State Park beaches will open to the public on Thursday, May 21, with visitors expected to practice social distancing.

RE: Interesting state-by-state reopening guide

If I may ask a question about listings of State park openings. The OP had a good link to CNN, but things change almost daily, is there a site that update regularly to try to keep up with the time. Also is there a site, link, etc to find out about COE parks without going to each individual park? Campground reviews does show per park openings, but not sure how often that's updated.

RE: Best Class C for the money

Also check into service after warranty. You are going to have issues pop up and they al seem to know when the warranty is up, then boom. Even the best of the best will have things go wrong as some point. Check the manufacturer and their service department. And/or even local qualified service centers.

RE: Leveling Blocks vs jack pads

Thanks all. I found some 2 X 10 in the garage and some 1/2" plywood. Got enough to make pads 10" long and will add braided rope handles(pulls). A good solid coat of paint & I should be good for a while. I hope!

RE: our current FINANCIAL situation

I guess I was secretly hoping that all the folks that were temporarily out of work burned all their vacation time to get a paycheck and the campgrounds would be empty this summer. X2;)

Leveling Blocks vs jack pads

Upgrading to a larger RV with leveling jacks this time. We carried with us leveling blocks like this. Can I use these blocks as jack pads? Will they hold up? If not how about pads made from a 2x10? need some advice please. thanks

Fort Wilkins SP, MI

Any words of wisdom about Fort Wilkins SP, MI? If & when this pandemic ends, we'd like to take a trip, hopefully at the end of July/early August. In your opinion would it be worth the drive from St. Louis, MO for a couple of days. Or is there more to see & do than I can find. The reviews I found are OK, but nothing to write home about. Our thinking is that by August things should open up a bit, and St. Louis is like a steam bath, so we'd head for cooler areas. Not only is the park worth the trip, but will it be over crowded and full? From there we plan on a leisurely week plus trip home. Always open for info on parks and eateries. We prefer state, national, COE & some county parks. Tend to avoid private parks that are more like parking lots with hook ups. Gotta have our trees and space. Thanks

RE: Arkansas State Parks to open...

Have any of you looked at the COE parks in Arkansas. Granted they may not be in the area you are interested in, but there are several of them to choose from in the state. And generally speaking, we have never been to a bad COE park.

Portable pellet smoker

Any of you /bbq smokers out there have any remarks about portable pellet smokers? Expecially https://www.amazon.com/Country-Smokers-CSPEL015010497-Pellet-Smoker/dp/B07VNN775P/ref=redir_mobile_desktop?ie=UTF8&psc=1&ref_=yo_ii_img? My nephew recently got hooked on pellet smoking and also bought a new TT, so he had to get one of the portable smokers. Any one have any thoughts, pro or cons about this product as I am also toying with the idea of one.
