RE: Piney Campground

Thanks for all the replies. They helped a bunch. It's on our list.

Piney Campground

Any one familiar with Piney Campground in the Land Between the Lakes? According to their web site it's a pretty good size park. But there are no pictures of the sites, which I prefer. We are planning a couple of nights there on our way home in mid May, would it be worth it? How are the sites?  Level? Pads are paved/gravel? Wifi? How about cell signal? Are you on top of your neighbor? Etc,etc. I did read reviews, but would like more input. Thanks for any & all help/info.

RE: Williamsburg, VA

We were looking at Cheatham Annex/Yorktown Naval Weapons Station FamCamp for a night then a full day in Williamsburg before heading to Hatteras. Any pros or cons on this. Is Virginia Beach worth a drive through? thanks again

Williamsburg, VA

Wife & I are thinking of going to Williamsburg in June in our 26'RV with a double bike rake, on our way to Hatteras Island. What can we do and see for a quick tour? Parking is my main concern. We're into history some, but really don't care what brand eye liner Betsey Ross used nor the color of George Washington's pantaloons. Just basic knowledge and little know facts of importance. I guess what I'm asking, is it worth the stop for an afternoon or so? thanks

RE: Snowbirds exiting

It just occurred to me that snow birds aren't the issue with fully booked parks. We generally stay at State or COE parks and I believe that these parks have a stay limit of 14 days. I don't think snow birds want to relocate every 14 days. So what's with the full capacity at these parks in late March. School should still be in. Guess it's all those darn retired baby boomers (like us) on the road. Won't give up the search, there's gotta be something out there.

Snowbirds exiting

Nothing against snow birds, I envy them. But when do they start migrating home? I looking for a gulf coast campsite, preferably a state park for the end of March/early April. The popular ones (Gulf State Park for one) I've checked are booked up. thanks

RE: Where to in June

Yes and some of East Tenn. Might even go up to the Blue Ridge Parkway for a brief length and some sights. Thanks again to all.

RE: Where to in June

We're looking now as we know how crowded things have become and in June even more so. So we'd like to start making reservations, much to my chagrin, as soon as some of the booking windows open. Thanks for all the replies. Looking more towards the upper Georgia/South Carolina area and hitting plenty of COE parks.

RE: Custom rims for my Class C

Maybe a nice quality set of stainless steel simulators? I've always thought those looked good. But get the bolt on type. Look great & no fear of them popping off & rolling down the road.

Where to in June

Being in St. Louis, MO we're looking for a place to go in mid June. Seems any place near large bodies of water, i.e. Great lakes, Gulf Coast, or even Atlantic coast, are all booked. Don't care for private parks. We're more State, COE, municipal or even FamCamp park people. What we generally prefer is a week of driving about 3 hours and spend a night, another of the same and spend two nights, repeating until we reach our destination for 5 or so days. Then return the same method, but different route. Like to explore the destination area, but then tend to get "happy feet" and the itch to be on the road to some place different. 26' B+ needing only electric, but full hook ups are nice. Thanks for your ideas.

RE: Electric Smoker for Long Term

I'm partial to RecTec. Heavy duty construction and their service is second to none if you ever have a question or problem. IMHO

Catalytic converter anti-theft

Any one install a Catalytic converter anti-theft device. Just had ours ripped off in the storage lot. Now looking for a good device to prevent this. Any one use such a device? If so which did your choose and why. thanks

Arnold AFB FamCamp, TN

Any one have any input or thoughts on Arnold AFB FamCamp for a night or 2 in October? Reviews sound ok, but some how leave a nagging question in my mind. One source says concrete pads, another says gravel. Doesn't seem to be a check in office or gate. Just not sure. Sure would be convenient for our needs. thanks

Avoiding Nashville

Any easy way to avoid Nashville coming from Pennyrile SP, KY to Tims Ford SP,TN? Is it better to grin & bear it & go through or to fudge around & try to skirt it? Just hate taking the RV through that city!!!

RE: Palmetto Island State Park

Loved Palmetto Island State Park. It was a couple of years & storms earlier and it was super. Far better than Grand Isle, but of a different ilk, both are nice. Palmetto has more secluded, private sites where Grand Isle is more big rig oriented.

RE: CG Suggestions

We just returned from hocking hills state park ohio a year ago. Confusing park with multiple campgrounds, but lovely sites (waterfalls, moderate woodsy hiking and mountain, water, river views, etc). Reservations are a must. Tight sites and large crowds, but it is a popular park.

Garmin RV890 voices

Has anyone with the Garmin RFV890 tried to change the default voice of Zoe to another voice? I tried, even talked with tech support many times and have done many steps and trials to no avail. Gramin even sent me a replacement unit. Went through the same rig-a-ma-rol with no success, even with several sessions with several tech. Not the biggest problem in the world, but it is advertised as having this ability. And after paying good money I would believe it should work as said. The only reply I get from Garmin is that they are working on a fix, watch my emails for updates. If you have a RV890, I ask that you try to change the voice and see if it works. If not I also ask you to email of phone the company and ask why. Again it's not a huge deal. It is a great unit, but has become the principle of the thing. thanks

RE: Tunnels, bridges & hair pin turns

First off, OK Custer SP. and/or where ever. My quest is to find a way to put in parameters to google maps, or such a site/app, easily to help define a decent/safe route without retracing steps. Guess what I'm saying is, is there a way to put such parameters into google maps, or similar, to avoid those hazards?
