RE: Elon's Starlink Internet Service

From what I understand, beta testers are lined up against the Canadian border since the deployed satellites are currently in that location. Also, you need a very large unobstructed area of the sky for the antenna to work. I forgot what current speeds beta testers are getting but they are very good.

RE: queen corner bed vs twin single beds

Had a corner double bed. Awful. We now have twin beds. Love it. The twin beds can easily be made into a king size bed but we don't bother. Which model do you have? How many ft long? I am looking to stay short 24-25ft. We have the Winnebago Navion, which is around 25 feet long. Twin beds have become very popular and several companies offer them, including in class B RVs.

RE: Thor (ACE) thumbs up or down?

We looked at the ACE models and liked some of the features but the quality just wasn't there. We went with a Winnebago.

RE: Four Corners/Durango

I have been through through those areas a couple of times. The last time was very recently. Plan on the possibility of encountering snow. I did when traveling that area in early April a few years back.

RE: New and looking to Yuma for winter in sm trl

Have you thought about staying a few miles north in Quartzsite? Plenty of BLM land for boondocking, and I believe BLM offers long term areas where you can stay for several months and have access to water, sewer and trash for a total of $180. I don't know if I'm replying correctly but this BLM option which provides water, sewer, etc. for $180 sounds appealing. Know where I can get more detail? I'll do some research on this. Thx! What I'm also REALLY interested in is to learn if there are RV camps that do NOT require a 30 day minimum stay. You can start here: La Posa Long Term Visitor Area You will also find plenty of RV parks in Quartzsite where you can stay for one night if that's all you want, provided there is availability.

RE: Memory leak with Firefox?

I have been a faithful Firefox user for many years, mainly because of the add-ons. I finally threw the towel in a few weeks ago and switched to Edge. I could no longer take the constant freezes and lockups caused by Firefox.

RE: How many Canadian Snowbirds are there?

According to the Canadian Trade Commissioner's office Canadians pay north of $500,000,000 a year just in property taxes in the State of Florida alone. As for non property owning snowbirds, it goes on to say "Canadian tourists spent an estimated $6.5 billion in 2016 alone. Canadian tourism has generated an estimated $686.5 million in related tax revenue..." And therein lies the reason why we sold our place in Florida in 2017. Taxes escalated exponentially but not for others. Neighbour with Homesteading and a pool paying $3600 and we were well north of $12000 a year with no pool, similar valuation. In 2008 USA were crying out for our Canadian dollars and within 5 years after that everything went exponentially up specially on "us". Flood insurance as non-residents, house insurance as non-residents and so on and so forth. Basically the goal posts moved exponentially on many counts after the credit crunch recovery to the detriment of non-resident owners when it suited. To each their own but we personally will never own property again in the USA because of how badly we were treated after the fact on moving goal posts, not just cost of living wise either! PS: Note to Alberta plated car stored in garage = maybe in danger of being reported especially in today's environment. If ascertained kept down there longer than 3 months (mandate in most states!) could be in for huge taxes as should have been imported and changed out to local plates. Just saying BarbOK, and don't know state by state rules but ........ you might want to let them know as a favour that over a certain time a vehicle remains in a country has to be exempted or imported = usually the latter. I can't speak specifically about Florida's property taxes since I have never owned property in that state. However, I don't believe any state in the US makes foreign real estate owners pay a higher property tax simply because they are foreigners. Some states and/or local tax authorities do have slightly higher tax rates for properties used as a second home or income property. What is correct it can be difficult and/or very expensive to get insurance on homes that aren't occupied full time, regardless of the owner's nationality.

RE: How many Canadian Snowbirds are there?

What is the actual US govt official policy? Are Canadian snowbirds allow to enter the US or not? Does it make any difference if they travel by ground or air? After seeing the thread about the Canadian couple that tried to enter the US to go Mexico and were denied entry into the US I assumed Canadians were not allowed to travel in the US.

RE: Germs while traveling

Use sanitizer, or wash your hands as soon as possible. We carry a small sanitizer bottle with us and we use it after touching anything in public. Touching contaminated surfaces isn't the problem, the problem is rubbing your nose or eyes with contaminated hands.

RE: Buying from private party in California

So you're saying that if I buy a car from a CA dealer, and I live in another state and will register it in that state, I pay CA sales tax as well as tax in my home state??Yes if you take delivery in CA. Dealer would have to ship the vehicle out of CA to avoid CA sales tax. Usually your home state will give credit for out of state sales tax when you register. You don't pay sales tax twice, but you may have to pay registration twice if you decide to register the vehicle in your name in CA just to drive it home. As stated before, don't overthink this too much since it's a private party sale. Register the vehicle and pay the sales tax in AZ when you get home. As someone else stated, if you purchase a new vehicle in CA and don't want to register it in CA or pay the CA sales tax, you must take delivery outside the state. When I purchased my new moho in CA, the dealer hired a driver (the wife and I were passengers) to drive the moho to the AZ stateline, where we were met by notary public arranged by the dealer that notarized documents showing we took possession of the moho outside CA. In another CA purchase, I bought a new utility trailer in CA but I had to pay the CA sales tax since I took possession of it in CA. When I registered it in AZ I did not have to pay sales tax again since the tax was paid in CA.

RE: Flaming Gorge to Page Az. Monument Valley, Escalante NP

Just got back from our annual road trip, and Lake Powell was our last stop before getting home. We stayed at the Wahweap Campground within the Lake Powell Recreation Area with full hookups. The sites are fairly well spaced out in Loop B, where we stayed. Most sites are drive-through and Wifi was very good. We had a great site with lake views and the nightly rate was $68. You can get into the recreational area for free if you have the yearly or senior pass. I highly recommend renting a boat in the lake or take a tour, if offered. Just south of Page, there is the famous Colorado River horseshoe bend. Years ago, there was a dirt parking lot adjacent to the highway where you could park for free and take a look at the river, but now the govt built a paved parking lot and there is a fee to park. I'm assuming the yearly or senior pass is valid there as well. A couple of years ago, we overnighted in Monument Valley, on our way to Moab, and stayed at a KOA. When we were planning our trip this year, we thought about going through that area again and we called Goulding's. We were told the tours in Indian lands were closed due to the pandemic. On our way to Lake Powell from Colorado, we drove through Four Corners and the parking lot in Indian land where the Four Corners marker is located was also closed.

RE: Lithium Batteries

When you say residential style fridge, are you saying you have a compressor-type fridge or a true residential fridge? They both use a compressor but that's where the similarities end. Our Winnebago Navion came with a compressor-style fridge and 200 watts of solar from factory and we haven't had any problems overnighting without power or having to run the genny.

RE: Visiting Mount St Helens in Washington

We drove to the end of Hwy 504 yesterday. As mentioned, everything was closed with the exception of the gift shops. We were concerned about the cloud cover as we reached the Visitor Center mid afternoon, but by the time we reached the end of the road the sky was clear.

RE: Visiting Mount St Helens in Washington

I don't see anything on WSDOT about Hwy 504 being closed. Yes, the visitor centers are closed, but you are going to see the mountain. You should still be able to drive to the parking/viewpoint at Johnston Ridge. If you go, choose 504 over 503. The crater view is at Johnston Ridge. My opinion is only go if the weather is cooperating. It needs to be clear weather all the way to the top of the mountain. It's not worth going if the only thing you can see is clouds. P.S. I'm planning on a trip in the next few weeks to Windy Ridge on the East side of the crater. Thanks for the info.

Visiting Mount St Helens in Washington

We were planning on visiting the Mount St Helens area since we have never been there, as we head east from the Long Beach Peninsula. Based on what I have seen on the net, it appears Hwy 504 is closed, along with the Visitor Center and Observatory. Is it worth going on Hwy 503, and can we expect to see Mount St Helens from the south? Are there other areas nearby worth visiting, as we head south to Oregon? Thanks in advance.

RE: Jeep Grand Cherokee 3.6L V6 2014

2014 V6 4X4 Jeep Grand Cherokee owner here. I towed a travel trailer with a loaded weight of 5,000 pounds for two years without any problems. As other have stated, you may need to keep and eye on your payload. You mentioned you would have to install a hitch on your JGC. If so, it tells me your Jeep does not have the factory towing package and you can only tow 3,500 pounds.

RE: Asking for a friend really

Leisure Travel RVs seem to be well built. Have you looked at the class C models made by Winnebago and Tiffin built on Sprinter Chassis? Good luck in your search.
