Tornado outbreak annniversary

Just a reminder why we don't blithely wander around the southeast in spring:

RE: Ceiling fabric separation

You have two problems; the a/c duct is leaking plus the backing of the fabric has rotted and failed. Make sure the screws holding the vents are actually securing them to the bottom of the ducts. You'll need to install a batten or two to hold up the fabric.

RE: Best Class A fire extinguisher

If he'd had an automatic AFF extinguisher mounted in the generator compartment it may have smothered the fire or at least made it real obvious there was a problem. Any extinguisher is far better than no extinguisher.

RE: Run TV on an inverter?

If your TV has a wallwart or transformer you may be able to use this https://www.amazon.com/Universal-Charger-ThinkPad-Notebook-Computers/dp/B095SF992Q/ref=dp_prsubs_2?pd_rd_i=B095SF992Q&psc=1
My older 32" Visio uses 19v, as do my computers. Works fine.

RE: House Toilet Cleaners Ok for Rv Toilets.

We've found that cleaners, even the mildest dish soaps, can remove the white finish of Dometic toilet lids and seats.

RE: having work done on rv while fulltime

Fulltime since 2010. We've spent time in shop parking lots, usually a couple of days but including a weekend next to a garbage truck in August and 12 days to get the transmission replaced.
We go to truck shops for engine/chassis work (Cummins, WW Williams) and they've been great. We haven't been to an RV repair shop since 2014.
There's a large contingent of mobile repair people. We've done a four-wheel brake job on our 36' DP in a CG and most recently had the a/c replaced and the furnace rebuilt by mobile service people.

RE: Reservations at federal parks

I routinely arrive at COE parks "too early."
The few times sites were still occupied I was offered parking in the lot by the boat ramps; if the occupants had already checked out I've always been permitted to go to the sites. At some parks of course there's no room to pull over and wait.

RE: Furnace bugs

These things are gnat-sized. Spider mites appears likely. This spring I'll turn off the manual valve in the furnace and maybe they won't be interested. Thanks!

Furnace bugs

I just had to pay yet again to have my MH furnace revived after several years of spending winters in warm places. :B
Last time around the tech showed me a bunch of mostly-incinerated tiny bugs in the orifice, and this time the tech showed me a few tiny bugs, enough to cause a weak flame rather than the roaring afterburner it should be.
What are these things, and it there any way to keep them out? Thanks!

RE: Converting Onan generator from gas to propane

If I was running the gen and the furnace in really cold weather I'd be looking at around 24 to 30 hours per 65-gal tank fill. Not real practical. They both seriously drink propane.
Several years ago I added an Extend-A-Stay hookup to run the furnace and lately a small gas generator to provide the power if I run into a Texas freeze situation. I've needed it and didn't have it; now I've assured I won't need it.
The only reason to buy a MH with a propane generator is if you really really like the MH and it's a bargain price.
Maybe someone can answer; why were propane generators a fad for a while rather than gas or diesel? Price?

RE: Converting Onan generator from gas to propane

To make it feasible on a class A you'll also need to install a much larger propane tank. Mine is 65 gallons and is expected to provide about 50 hours runtime. I've never tried it that long.
I believe such horror stories involve portable generators and installed generators that rarely run. Proper regular exercise of a generator should prevent carb gumming.
Also getting motorhome non-removeable propane tanks filled can be a major pain..

RE: Crooker River SP, GA

It's been a few year but I don't recall there being much of anything you mentioned in the area. And you aren't going to see any subs. You could day-trip down to St. Mary's.
I'd suggest you instead stay at Ft. Clinch SP, Amelia Island, Fla., and go into Fernandina.

Thanks JoeH, we're thinking about going up to Michigan next summer. I presume areas on the lakes are cooler than inland?
