RE: Likely to regret

The good news is that if you run the Ike, you’ll probably be passing cars on the way up!

RE: Spare Tire Mod

Years ago in a previous trailer, it had an undermount spare. We were going to a remote site in the NorCal Redwoods. The last .4 mile into the campground was a 10’ wide “path” where at one point the redwoods on both sides were less than 1’ of the trailer. So we always stopped at the entrance to scope out the “path” to see if anyone was coming as there was no place to pull off and let someone pass due to the close proximity of the trees. As we were there, a pickup pulls up and asked if we lost a tire. I look under the trailer and the spare was gone. The cable holding it had snapped. Now the lucky part. The tire was in front of the axles. When it fell, it must have remained completely flat to pass under both axles. Has it tipped up, it could have flipped the trailer. That would have been quite a ride.

RE: 2023 Ram Reveal

You know that if you damage those mirrors, it will be $1,000 to $1,500 to replace (or more).

RE: Hot Water Recirculation Loop - Save Water - Camp Longer

First, I have installed a recirculation/conserving system in my campers since 1995. Second, the water should return to the cold holding tank. If the water was hot at the faucet you don’t need to recirculate it. The reason to recirculate is to get hot water to the faucet and return the cold water in the line to the tank, Third, I use a cheap inline irrigation valve ($10 to $12) and a $2 doorbell button. No need to go to specialty valves and pumps.

RE: heavier trailer tires and fuel economy

It’s pretty well known fact that trucks that switch from lighter P tires to heavier LT tires always lose on mileage. Is it the heavier tire, the stiffness of the tire or tread pattern. Who knows.

RE: Bedding Brakes

What bedding the brakes does is to transfer a microscopic layer of brake material from the pad/shoe to the disc/drum surface. This is accomplished by “repeatedly” heating the brakes and letting them cool in a prescribed method as directed by the manufacturer. Greater friction is generated from brake material to brake material than from brake material to cast iron. If you believe that you are more knowledgeable than the manufacturer, good luck. It’s always done on race cars as braking is somewhat an important thing.

RE: Bedding Brakes

Not bedding the brakes works 99% of the time, BUT that one time when you absolutely need maximum braking to avoid an accident, did you think that maybe I should have bedded the brakes properly? BOOM!

You know that there is an old sled dog saying…. “If you’re not the lead dog, the view never changes”. How’s the view back there ;)

RE: My Coach Net experience tonight.

It’s interesting that when a semi is involved, the police manage to get a wrecker capable of towing 80,000# almost immediately. Hmmm

RE: How To Clean This

Use a piece of dental floss. Pull it back and forth and it will cut like a blade but damage nothing. Works great for those stick on dealer ads.

RE: Towing With Air Bags.

This may not be relevant, but when I had air bags on my older 1500 Ram, i found out that if I went over 20 or 25 lbs that it stiffened the rear suspension to the point that it created a fulcrum point that caused the truck to porpoise. In my opinion, getting the truck back to level is not important.

RE: Insurance and RAM 5500

Try a company named Wawanesa. They are a Canadian company but also service WA, OR and CA. I have been with them for almost 50 years and no one has beat their rates yet. JD powers rates them #1 in customer satisfaction. I’ve had 2 claims in that time. One was my wife’s fault and the other was the deer’s fault (both totals). In both cases they settled very quickly for more than I thought the vehicles were worth. The truck hit a deer while camping in Utah. Using bailing wire and duct tape I made it back home to CA. It was an older truck and the damage mounted up quickly. When they gave me the payout amount, I said, “Man I just put 4 new tires on it”. The adjuster asked me how much they cost and added that amount to the claim. I’ve never seen that happen before.

RE: Painting travel trailer white to reduce heat in summer?

I just read an article that tested interior temperatures of cars painted black or white. After time the difference was only 4 degrees. Car insulation is about the sane as RV’s.

RE: Puzzling Plumbing Problem

When it's at 100 pounds and you open a faucet, is there a huge burst of water under extreme pressure? Most plumbing systems are not even designed to handle that much pressure so you would also likely have leaking connections somewhere if the pressure is truly that high. The P&T valve on your water heater does not release until 150 PSI. Modern piping is designed to exceed that pressure. Otherwise the pipes would burst and spray hot water everywhere

RE: Truck Fire Ford SD 6.7

OK,Port,Starboard. But do you know why? Ancient ships didn’t have a centered rudder. They had a “steering board” attached to the RIGHT side of the ship. That meant when a ship came in to dock, it docked on the LEFT side of the ship. PORT side. The RIGHT side became the steer board (STARBOARD) side. Lesson over:B
