Time to replace A/C

My Brisk Air is now 9 years old and needs to be replaced. My question is if I go to a Brisk Air II will my current Single zone thermostat still work. If I decide to go with another brand, what are the ramifications of installing a different thermostat with the existing low voltage stat wiring? Finally, what unit looks to be the best 13.5 at this time.

Brisk Air issue

The Brisk Air on my Wildwood haas worked well for 8 years. On this trip, while the fan is set on Auto, the unit runs until it reaches the set point and then shuts off for the 3 minute lockout period. It then restarts on high fan again and repeats. It used to switch between high and low fan while the compressor kept running. I re-initialized but no change. Any thoughts?

RE: 1/2T/huge TT vs strong cross wind = BAADDD DAY

Bar pit, Bar ditches are a shortened phrase for barrow. When older highways were built they “barrowed” soil from the side of the road to elevate the roadway and provide a place for rain water to collect.

RE: Does RV antifreeze go bad?

Seeing as how vehicle manufacturers recommend changing coolant between 100,000 and 160,000 miles which might correlate to 10 years of severe duty, I don't think I would worry much about some virgin coolant in a jug.

RE: Solar charging - can it be so?

Here's a graph for my ground mount solar at the S&B. Sunrise yesterday was at 6:36 and power was produced at 7:00. Sunset was at 6:43 with power production ending at at 6:36. This was a totally clear day in the desert. https://i.imgur.com/YqaVeOwl.jpg

RE: End of Trailer Life and MotorHome magazines

I’m not too sure that those Prevost owners are going to be thrilled with the PopUp articles :B :B. :B

RE: Do dogs have an internal gps?

I swear that my dog has a hidden paw watch. Within minutes of 6:00 PM which is feeding time, she comes and sits in front of me to remind me.

RE: Boiling gas

Ethanol boils at 177 degrees. Might be the culprit

RE: How cold should the air conditioning get the RV?

The other factor to consider is humidity. The higher it is the less cooling you will get.

RE: airtabs

Large trucking companies spend large amounts of money to gain a tenth of a mile per gallon. Have you EVER seen Airtabs on a semi?

RE: Hard Start kits: Supco SPP6 vs. Dometic #3310727.015

There is virtually no difference between that Dometic part and the Supco SPP6- both are PTCR based start devices. Supco does not recommend the E series for RV applications- because if you shut the compressor and try to restart it right away, the E series will put the start cap in the circuit, a PTCR device will not. My response to that- doesn't short cycle the A/C (most new thermostats will not let you anyway). DuoTherm does make a couple of better options- p/n 3102903.006 , which is a true potential relay (unlike the Supco "E" series quasi potential relay), and a really good, though very expensive start kit, the SmartStart- unlike anything else on the market (at ~$370, it better be :) ). Another option I am looking at is the 5-2-1 compressor saver- a true 3 wire potential relay. Note that the benefit for the non-PTCR type kits is really only in running off an undersized genset- they keep the start capacitor in the circuit until the compressor comes up to 75% of speed, which takes a fraction of a second longer if the genset bogs down. I strongly agree with the 5-2-1 compressor saver. I was a Facilities Manager for a large school district fo 17 years.. We had thousands of 5 ton units here in the desert. The ONLY "hard start" kit that would consistently start old worn out units was the 5-2-1. We tried every brand available and the 5-2-1 was the best.

RE: Oregon Coast in September

A number of years ago we spent 9 days at Harris mid September. It rained continuously for the entire 9 days. Just sayin’

RE: Minimum gate opening width needed for TT parking........

Do you have room to add a gate on the other side of the house? If so with a large back yard you might be able to drive in and drive out with minimal fuss.

RE: water line vibration

I found that my system vibrates until all air is completely purged out of the system. Go to the furtherist outlet and let it run. If you have an external shower drain that too.

RE: Refrigerator cold air catcher

Unfortunately, cold air flows just like water. When you open the door, cold air will settle and warm air will replace it at the top. Might save a degree or 2 in the crispers but that’s just about all.

RE: Deep metal "groaning sound" from hitch. Is this normal?

I’ve been using a Equalizer for many years. Early on I had the typical groaning. I studied the installation and discovered that when fully loaded for a trip that the bars were not 100% perpendicular with the L brackets. This resulted in the bars rubbing on a thin edge, not the full flat L bracket surface. I adjusted the L brackets to be 100% perpendicular with a carpenters square when static and the noise mysteriously went away. Now when moving at road speed the trailer will porpoise some and the bars will constantly change contact which is normal.

RE: tapping the top of awning to project it from the sun

My trailer has been parked under the brutal sun of the desert for 7 years. Shortly after I got it, I got some 6” wide Eternabond and put a layer on top of the awnings when rolled up. It’s flexible so it rolls up without a problem and is still flawless after 7 years. No worries about having to install and remove temporary covers.
