RE: Speaking of large batch cooking-freezing leftovers?

Wife is like Rachel ray, loves to cook and very good at it. BUT will admit, once the kid's moved out she struggled to cook for 2 with enormous amounts of leftovers. Once I retired I had a plethora of leftovers in vacuum packed bags.

RE: One more week then "empty nester"

Wife and I were quite emotional as each child left the nest. We looked at each other and said " where has the time gone?". It has impacted the wife and I in a positive way as we've become much closer and spend more time relaxing, enjoying a glass of wine or 3 and still very much enjoying the RV lifestyle. Coincidentally, my youngest daughter bought her first home at the age of 22 just this past weekend.

RE: My truck has a winter beard!

I once met a man from Fairbanks that claimed it's so cold there that conversations freeze.....that's cold.

RE: Getting back to a RV now as an empty nester

Wife and I are empty nesters as well but the desire to camp continues. We wanted a trailer that had plenty of windows and not to exceed 30 feet but comfortable enough to spend weeks at a time in. We went to several RV shows and walked in over 100 units over a spand of 6 months.....we walked into a 2020 Outback 252urs and placed an order. That was a year ago and no regrets whatsoever. Hope you find something that you both enjoy.

RE: Crashed trailer

Sad to look at. The wife and I were headed out west next year but rethinking because of the winds. I'm a man of great empathy.....unless they were towing with a half ton. ?? That's a heck of a reason to not go exploring... Yes it gets windy, but I'd hazard a guess at equal chances of some sort of incident wherever you drive. Ahhh I can't argue with that logic.....we'll head out on a calm day or maybe a tail wind.

RE: 2022 Ford Super Duty interior?

I heard 2023 but forget the source.

RE: Quality Decline since Covid

What compounds the issue is the market is flooded with unsuspecting new owners that don't realize that with trailer ownership they assume some level of responsibility with very basic mechanical skills. Our local RV dealership is overwhelmed with new trailers waiting on warranty work and I'm betting some may be as simple as hand tightening a trap. The consumer plays a role here.

RE: Quality Decline since Covid

It's not the quality of materials being used but rather the haste in which these units are being thrown together, no pride in low scale employees. Our 2020 Outback has much better cabinetry, countertops, hardware and the use of synthetic materials compared to our previous trailer but had to spend an entire day with multiple tools to realign slides, cabinet doors, refrigerator, trim, handles on dump valves fell out....BUT I have no issues with the materials used in the build.

RE: Towing Advice

What size trunnion bars? Undersized can create instability. Another issue is going to be payload with that size trailer. Tounge weight will consume a big chunk of it and you have to consider all passengers and cargo in the truck as well. You want my honest opinion for a better towing experience and for piece of mind.....go with a GVWR trailer that your truck can comfortably tow and consider 12 - 15% of this weight as tounge weight and see where you stand regarding payload. That Sporttrek is a nice trailer but a lofty 35 ft long and will most likely weigh 8500 or so which will give it a roughly a 1200# tounge. If your in love with the trailer then it's time for F250/2500 series truck and don't look back.

RE: Newbie trailer owner, question on water pressure pump

As long as you have water in fresh water tank, the pump can be left on as it only cycles on demand. I personally as part of standard operating procedure, would turn off pump when trailer is not being occupied.

RE: Trailer too long for truck?

You'll end up within spec, but it'll be the upper end. Just be aware, that trailer will have a 1000# tounge so just understand payload and how it works.

If your using a WDH you'll want to take 2 measurements of the front end of tow vehicle, ground to wheel well. Take a measurement unloaded and another with trailer hooked up with tounge weight. Set the hitch up to where the 2 measurements have been split. This indicates weight transfer. That said, with my HD trucks, I've always started with my hitch ball 1" higher than trailer coupler when setting up WDH and always got weight transfer and a level trailer. Not knowing your trailer or tow vehicles capacity, none of what I said may happen.

RE: Chipmunks

Here in the mountains of VA, anything with an engine that sits for any duration will inevitably see a host of critters taking up residency. I've become a master at keeping rodents out of the trailer but all other equipment, it's a never ending battle.

RE: Anyone rent out their camper?

Wife loaned our fully stocked trailer to an employee of hers, a family of 4. I did question that decision but went along with it....this was years ago. The family arrived at the house so I could go over the trailer with them and all went well until the husband leaned over and said " hope your truck is an automatic as I've never driven a standard "??. Week later the trailer returns with damage to undercarriage plumbing, black and gray tank drain valves. Feel somewhat fortunate that this damage occurred because this is the story I tell whenever friends or family want to borrow or rent our trailer. The way trailers are built, it would be like renting out wine glasses for supplemental income, NOPE.

RE: Another Ford that needs to be bagged - or a dually?

So I agree, owner of that truck is a Joe. And probably has a closet full of Affliction and Tapout shirts and hats! Most assuredly is sporting a flavor saver soul patch on his face and spent the same amount of $ on his wife’s boobs as the lift and wheels package cost him at 4wheel Parts in SoCal! So if someone could get a family pic it would e great. Or even one of just the wife would be even better! Lol Ahhh the humor in this.

RE: Leaving breakers in the camper on while away?

we leave trailer plugged up What in tarnation?!? I though this was an electrical discussion, not plumbing. I thought more along the lines of needing a laxative. It is the Pharmacist in me. Rough crowd here so let's rephrase so I don't feel compelled to change my diet. The wife and I prefer to keep our trailer plugged into an electrical outlet year around and have suffered no consequences by doing so.

RE: Another Ford that needs to be bagged - or a dually?

I don't think the owner did any research but at least it's color coordinated. If this isn't addressed promptly, they'll likely be a Utube video. One more thought, I could easily see the tread life of front tires exceeding 100K.
