RE: Camping in cold temps, bad idea?

I skipped all the comments, so maybe it has been said... I am in the process of gutting an RV that has been sitting for 13 years. The gas tank was full, water tank was full, boiler was full, and that is 13 winters of freeze/thaw over and over. The pipes are all PEX with way too many brass connectors. There is no leak. there are no cracked pipes. There are no cracked brass fittings! This camper has been sitting with two big windows open and the roof vents open also. There is no issue. I have removed the boiler, but have not tested it to make sure there is no internal damage from freezing. The water pump was full of water, it works fine. The kitchen, bathroom sink faucets are fine, they are plastic. The shower faucet is fine. The shower hose and head are fine. The toilet is fine... Get the drift? Yes, your camper can be damaged by freezing pipes, and it is a pain to have a frozen pipe and not have water flow while camping. 13 years of neglect and no issues though... just sayin... So your saying neglect is the key to longevity? Lol

RE: 2002 Ford E350 V10 Transmission Fluid

If your old enough you've likely heard that flushing an older transmission can lead to it's demise, had it happen, blew inside of a week. When experiencing discolored fluid, I simply find a return line and let the transmission pump out the old while I'm adding new....turns pink, your done. When a transmission hasn't been neglected a simple filter change and refill has always been effective. Ymmv

RE: Servicing Wheel Bearings

I don't believe a properly Torqued bearing that has been greased requires that much attention. Most trailers come with zerk fittings to maintain the bearings. During the greasing process simply Jack the tire and spin then check for any side to side play by grabbing the tire at opposite ends. Our last trailer was 10yrs old when we sold it and never required a bearing to be pulled.

RE: Are the campgrounds full in your area?

Wife and I always enjoyed camping after labor day because of ease of availability.....NOT THIS YEAR, everything booked. Next year will be interesting to see if all the new RVers hold course.

RE: 2002 Ford E350 V10 Transmission Fluid

Just drop the pan and replace filter then add the the lost fluid.....it's extremely messy if no drain plug. You may also have a magnet in the pan, clean it. Little trick for the TC, use a foil pie plate when draining and punch a hole in it where you want it to come out or enjoy the waterfall.

RE: Does RV antifreeze go bad?

I would use it but if you feel uncomfortable, your looking at roughly 12 bucks for 2 gallons of RV antifreeze.

RE: wheels

That's ample wheel and tire for your trailer and will easily handle the trailers GVWR.

RE: We are Drowning in our...

Yes, way less litter today because of increased education and responsibility.

RE: Floors

Foam core flooring seems to be common in trailers with heated underbelly due to it's insulation R value. We have a friend who actually went through the floor on brand new trailer but can I mention this person exceeded 400 lbs. That said, we've not experienced any issues but are light on foot.

RE: Rancho Shocks

I've ran Rancho shocks on many vehicles over the years " mostly lifted " and have always been pleased with ride quality and durability. Bilsteins get yanked shortly after new truck purchase for the better dampened Rancho. Imo

RE: How much do you really need?

I always recommend keeping the GVWR within the tow rating. My thoughts as well.

RE: Campgrounds around Shenandoah Valley in VA?

Found a site at Luray KOA now. Will be traveling there Nov 4. That’s the day after elections, I have some concerns about traveling the day after the elections. I don’t know what will happen after the elections. What is your thoughts? You'll be traveling away from irate lunatics and into the path of....irate lunatics.

RE: 5.3 vs 6.2

By simply avoiding the 4L60E is a step in right direction. I've grenaded (4) in 20 yrs towing, no joke.

RE: Tongue height

I've always heard nose down slightly but have always strived for level. A WDH can be your friend here.

RE: Watch those glass stove tops.

Found out later she had large chilli pot on back burner. I'm certain this directed a lot of heat towards glass top.....big pots up front.

Watch those glass stove tops.

Was out on the lake fishing when wife called from campsite, she was in a panic. The fold back glass top shattered sounding like a gun firing, her words, while she was cooking. I removed top of stove and cleaned all glass and removed all hardware pertaining to glass top. She said DO NOT REPLACE THE GLASS TOP. Yes it was folded all the way back she claims.

RE: RV Water heater

Our water heater " suburban I believe " has an electric on-off switch at the WH itself, another electric on-off switch at the control panel and separate Propane switch. I've not seen this configuration before. Regarding the OP's concern. We've yet to use Propane to heat water when hooked up to electricity.....family of 5 until kids moved out.

RE: Campgrounds around Shenandoah Valley in VA?

Perhaps I'm a little late but lived in Shenandoah valley my entire life. Are you looking for KOA type camping or off the beaten path campgrounds that accommodate larger RVs ?

RE: Flying Floating Flooring

I did a previous home with it and these floors are very easy to install with a miter saw. My biggest concern would be how well will the slide except this increase in floor height and will all cabinet doors open,do you have fold in steps. If none of these concerns are an issue then it will likely look fantastic but expect some minor separation in low humidity using glue or just glue the section under slide. And if you pursue this I'd be curious how it turns out.
